Do you think Hit the Lights would be better if Colin stayed, or are they better now that Nick is the singer?
to help your decision (or make it harder), download and listen to the Skip School demos with Colin:

Colin of course. He has a more nasally whiny sounding voice which I love. Also This is A Stick Up is their best record. The gang vocals alone make it my favorite pop punk album ever. I am a huge NFG, Blink 182, The Starting Line, ect fan but that album is still my favorite. In my opinion that album has the best gang vocals besides Comeback Kid stuff.

I prefer Nick's voice, but Skip School Start Fights had little lasting value for me

You should phrase that question better. From the main page I had no idea what this poll was about lol

Honestly, I dont know. I used to not like Colin so much because of his nasally voice. But I actually think his distinct sound made them who they are. I like Nick a lot and his voice is good. But its really just a generic voice to me.

really tough choice. now that i think about it, what initially attracted me to hit the lights was their songwriting style. Songs such as "body bag" and "save your breath" that were upbeat but had a malicious edge to them were what i liked. Yeah, I loved Colin's voice, but that same kind of semi-spiteful song writing is present on Skip School, Start Fights, on songs like "drop the girl" and "cry your eyes out." Although I was worried about the switch, I think that Nick has a great voice and definitely fits the Hit The Lights image. Also, having seeing Nick twice live, it definitely seems natural to all of them for Nick to be at the forefront.
p.s. those demos with Colin are really cool, thanks to whoever posted them

colin, just because i felt his voice pretty much completed htl's sound.
but i really dig the new record with nick now, so it's a tie for me.

In my opinion, Skip School their better album, but it would have been so much better with Colin because of the great harmonies Nick was doing on those demos.

Those demos are amazing. I think Skip School would have been better with Colin doing vocals. I really like Skip School but it is very generic and could been interchangeable with All Time Low and such. The only reason I gave it a chance is I love Hit The Lights. Nick is very good live and seems like a good replacement

Just seeing "Colin or Nick?" and given the two options, I thought this was a Circa Survive poll. I voted for Nick Beard. Oops.

Nick even though not really a fan of either. Colins voice really annoys me
Colin. His voice was more energetic than Nick's is.

I think Colin's voice sounds better on those demos because he had more experience as a vocalist. Nick sounded great on Skip School, Start Fights and I think by the next album he will be as good as Colin was vocally. The band in general is much better off with Nick singing because Colin hated touring and really brought down the band morale.

HTL played a show right down the street in a local community center shithole a few months back. i sat around and talked to nick and nate for like two hours. we talked about this for probably 30 mins. and the consensus among the band is that colin had a more unique voice (as posted earlier), but they think nicks is stronger. when i heard that they weren't replacing colin with someone outside the band, i was a little bit skeptical. i mean, we all have heard nick sing back up while playing guitar, but to jump to lead is a big step. plus, colin was the voice of the band. replacing a singer is always a scary thought (ie what people thought when anthony left saosin). as he grows into it and fans get accustomed to it, nick will def be a better singer. plus, colin didn't want to be a part of the band and it definitely showed in his live performances. nick, however, is someone who shows he wants to be there and on stage, you can feel it.

dude, totally didn't see your post about the touring before i posted, but i definitely agree. i was at the HTL/Cartel show at VT the last time (i believe) colin played in blacksburg and you could definitely tell he wanted no part of it. HTL signed shit and got pictures and colin was nowhere to be found.

a lot of people say that skip school, start fights has no lasting value, but i just don't agree with that. sure, there are songs on the album that i dont like at all (statues), but overall it's a great album and i love it. maybe i'm biased because i love HTL anyway, but i really do like the album regardless of who made it. on the flipside, i absolutely loved this is a stick up. i still listen to it (fuck it, i'm gonna put it on right now) all the time. i think that if i had to pick, i would choose this is a stick up but JUST BARELY.

I voted for Nick, but honestly I like both equally. What swayed my decision is the fact that I met Nick on the tour with Chiodos and he was awesome.

I know HTL has said a lot about the situation with Colin, but I would love for them to open up a little more and/or hear Colin's reasons for leaving. He never really had a farewell to his fans and I'm not saying he owes it to us. But I think there is a lot more to this. I know touring can be really hard and stressful, but they were really becoming huge. I guess I just dont get why someone would want to leave a band that was so successful and becoming bigger by the minute.

I can't decide which vocalist I like better, but I think that This Is A Stickup stuck with me more because which is why I voted for Colin. Like someone said earlier, the kinda darker lyrics on top of the pop punk. I never got to see Colin, but I have seen Nick twice and they all look like they are loving life while they are playing and if Colin hated touring, they are probably (yet sadly) better off without him. By the way, is anyone else having trouble downloading those demos or does my computer just suck?

It's probably my least favorite HTL song ever, to be honest.
