tour starts in a little over a week. couldn't be more excited. these venues are tiny. i know they've got a nice little following here on AP.net, but is it just me or is this band WAY smaller then they should be ?
anyway, im also excited to see kevin devine but don't know much about the other opening acts, though.
anyone else going to this ?

yeah, its weird but i kind of found out about this tour by accident. i hear about most tours weeks ahead of time on the home page here on AP.net, but ( unless im mistaken ) i don't recall reading anything on this tour on here. i just sort of happened to be checking out their myspace page and seen some fresh dates up. i can't believe how young these guys are.
i need to find away to get the new right away, great captain album.

i only live 30 minutes from Buffalo and I couldn't agree more. I may go to Pittsburgh to see that shit,

I'm going to the show in Jersey. I have to say I've never listened to Manchester Orchestra but I'm excited to see them. I did see Andy Hull open for Kevin Devine in Brooklyn, and I thought he was great.

Truth.
They talked about touring for over a year straight after their new album comes out, and they said it was going to be with their 'friends' and there's a possibility that tour is coming back. Also, a BN/STD tour as well. I am pretty much freaking out.

I am going tonight (about to leave here soon), so I will have a setlist when I get back tomorrow. At the House of Blues Chicago date they played 4 new jams, so I'm sure they'll play new material, especially now that they're headlining.

Alright. I only know Kevin and Manchester, but I'm assuming most of you are only looking for those setlists.
Kevin Devine and The God Damn Band:
Carnivale
Another Bag of Bones
I Could Be With Anyone
Longer That I'm Out Here
Just Stay
Cotton Crush
Brother's Blood
Okay, Manchester came out and played a ton of new songs, I don't know how many, because they all seemed interconnected to me. So anyway this setlist is going to be choatic and most likely wrong because some may be the same song, just different parts. Doesn't help I'd had some beers before too.
Manchester Orchestra:
New Song (I'm Fine)
New Song (Kick It Up and Bury It)
New Song?
My Friend Marcus
Shake It Out
New Song (You Mean Everything)
Wolves At Night
Now That You're Home
I Can Barely Breathe
Where Have You Been (with Circus!)
Sleeper 1972 instrumentals with totally different lyrics
New Song/Improv (Walk Off With My Drink)
------------
Golden Ticket
Manchester's set was...different. Don't get me wrong, it was great, but I felt like I was watching Jesse Lacey on stage. Andy even said "I'm only playing an encore for these four (rest of MO) and you bastards" (kidding, but still). And if anybody else was there, feel free to correct the set.

The first couple of dates of this tour (the first three I think he said) he's playing between All Get Out, the first band, and Dead Confederate, so he's getting a shorter set.

wow, that's a LOT of new songs. I kind of wished to hear some of their older ones, but I'm glad they play I Can Barely Breathe, Where Have You Been, Sleeper 1973
Seems wierd to start off with like 4 new songs....You think you would play an older one in between to get the crowd into it.

order: all get out, kevin devine, dead confederate, manchester orchestra
opening with all the new songs definetly lost my interest and i'm a huge fan of the band. i think i counted about 6, but like was said, they ran together and i wasn't sure which ones were which. andy was pretty funny on stage. "we're going to play a bunch of new songs that you don't know and will get bored of. then we'll play the stuff you paid to see. then again you'll be shitting your pants once you hear these again when the record comes out." rocketown usually gives the artists a strict talk before their shows and tell them not to cuss. of course having kevin devine, a god damn band, and andy hull having the mic all night didn't help that cause. kevin was 3/4 on saying gosh darn band. when he cussed he really felt ashamed like he lost a game or something. andy cussed a couple times and they were all laughing about how stupid a rule that is.
kevin devine:
Carnivale
Another Bag of Bones
I Could Be With Anyone
No Time Flat

i started listen to "virgin" a lot before this show and got really into sleeper and golden ticket. i was so pissed i didn't get to hear either. we even asked for an encore, but they wouldn't come out. andy said afterwards he was really tired. he signed my ra,gc! cd, and kevin signed the "i could be with anyone EP". kevin was probably one of the nicest band people i've ever met. so sincere in everything he said and really appreciated anyone coming to see him.

hahahha i got a good chuckle out of 'not sure what song but it wasnt cotton crush'
thats just so typical, im afraid that song will become his seventy times 7 because cotton crush is so much better than seventy times 7
i feel like "ballgame" is his 70X7, tbh. he seems to not like playing that song anymore, probably because he isnt that same person that wrote that song, much like jess with 70X7. notice how he changes up all the lyrics now to reflect how in the past that song really is?
i still feel like he enjoys playing cotton crush. i dunno.
and im kinda dissapointed about these setlists. i want to hear more out of kev, and i want to hear manO stuff that i know. im not really excited for this show anymore...

yeah i dont really care its not coming here. to be honest, that set sucks, dont open with that many new songs, put them later on in the show. and dont play 13 songs headlining, your best friends bands play upwards of 20 live headlining (kdev and brand new)
and damn kevin is getting screwed on time

kevin gets 35 minutes. at the very end of brother's blood he added in "when you realize it's a pattern and not a phase" into the outro so that the girl next to me could be happy. everyone that's iffy if they want to go or not, you should. it's a great show where all 4 bands put on a great set and you really don't see that much anymore.

it's so funny how people are so quick to abandon a band's tour just because they aren't playing "all their favorite songs".
seriously. MO is fucking amazing live. Just because they're not playing all of Virgin doesn't mean the new songs aren't amazingly good live. I'm actually glad they're playing a bunch of new songs. For a while there, I was afraid they were gonna pull a Say Anything and tour off the same CD for 3 years.
Personally, I'm stoked to hear the new stuff live.

I always like hearing new material, but ideally for me, when it comes to a majority of a set I like to have heard the material before seeing it performed live. i have a whole "taking it in process" I like to experience prior to seeing it performed that makes going to shows more delightful to me. I like to previously connect with the song, so when I hear it, I can go to that place so to speak. you know? either way, i'm still stoked to see them and kevin.

yeah, I hear ya for sure man. I'm that way too with a lot of bands, especially Brand New. I've just seen MO a few times now, and I'd like to hear something different. I'm sure if I knew the songs beforehand it would be much much more enjoyable, but I'm still going to have a solid time.

I was at this show, and for all the people doggin on MO's set, I have a reply:
Their set was incredible. I can totally relate to the whole "I want to hear them play songs that I know" thing, but it was really awesome to hear the new songs. It was a pleasant "preview" to the album. The new songs sound REALLY good. "Shake it out"'s bridge/breakdown part is incredible.
Despite the fact that the band didn't play many of the songs off of Virgin, the songs they did play were awesome. I sang my effin heart out, and it was an awesome experience.
Let me put it this way: I've been to a good bit of shows, and this show is one that I can't stop thinking about. I didn't enjoy Dead Confederate's set or All Get Out's set near as much, but MO and KD's sets alone are still fresh in my mind.

nah they didn't play Sleeper. From Virgin, if I remember correctly, they played:
Wolves at Night
Now that Your Home
I Can Barely Breathe
Where Have You Been (with the Circus ending)
seems like a short list, but for me, I let it all go during those 4 songs and thoroughly enjoyed them. I was satisfied with what I got out of those songs (which was singing my heart out ridiculously). Those songs were awesome.

as far as singing along with the band goes, yeah the crowd was into it. Andy swung the mic around to let the crowd sing in the first verse to "now that you're home" and to one chorus of "where have you been" (when you look at me, i'll be ...) - I think that's classified as the chorus?
so yeah the crowd was vocally active. Not a lot of people moved around a lot though. At all. Of course I know that it would be ridiculous to hxc dance to MO, but I personally couldn't help but bounce around or throw a finger up to one of the lines of the song. I shot KD a myspace message last night asking him basically what was up with him playing second, and asked if he would still be playing second at the Orlando show. This was the answer I got:

Thanks for the kind words -

Will report in more tomorrow, but Kevin played second to last (he was freaking unbelievable and put on a great set...first time seeing him here, *instant fan*, and the show was fucking amazing. They played a new song that they haven't played live ever at the very, very end (I Have Friends In All The Right Places)...it was pretty awesome. They also played "I Can Feel A Hot One" which I don't think they have yet. Blackman sounded amazing, so did Shake It OUt and the rest of the new songs.
Plus, druing Where Have You BEen...EVERYBODY came out and played drums/guitars/generally rocked out. Kevin Devine was out bangin on da drums.
Also, I want to say All Get Out has AMAZING potential. Very similar to Andy in kind of the "sound" of his vocals, but the guy knows how to sing, and they write some damn good music and put on a hell of a show. Color me impressed.

i agree. i love MO, but it kind of puzzles me how kevin has been around longer than them and they are already becoming more popular than he is. he's so fucking underrated, it's not even funny.

I don't know song names and what not, but the show last night in Lansing, Michigan was completely sold out, and it was an amazing night. All 4 bands are incredible musicians. Dead Confederate was scary good. KD was awesome w/ the band, such great energy. And Manchester killed it.
Regarding the order of bands, it's a Manchester Orchestra headlining tour. They'll close every night. KD is direct support, so they'll play right before Manchester, every night. DC will play 2nd, AGO 1st. Every night. The order is not always determined by who's "bigger". Manchester routed a headlining tour, and then asked KD to support. However, last night, while the crowd loved KD, it was definitely a Manchester crowd.
If you guys get a chance, go see this tour. Nicest group of people I've ever had the pleasure to work with, and such a ray of light in a very cloudy music scene right now.

eehhhh...Dead Confederate was not so great to me. The lead singer was so nasally and sounded like a horrible version of the smashing Pumpkins lead singer. Their music was okay, but it was pretty much the same thing, again, and again. And the order of the bands hasn't been the same every night, which is why everyoen is asking. Kevin was listed on teh bill as playing second for my show, but he ended up playing before Manchester. He has also played 2nd at a couple other shows. I'm pretty sure now he's continually playing before Manchester, however, but it wasn't clear from teh start.

KD is direct support, so they'll play right before Manchester, every night.
Wrong. Each date is booked differently. I've already been to a date on this tour where Kevin was not direct support, but played right after All Get Out.
Last night was an amazing show. I'm not sure if Kevin will be a direct support for every show or not from now on, but all openers played for a good amount of time. I was unable to stay for MO (I wasn't feeling good but didn't want to miss Kevin while he was in Michigan), but all three openers were amazing and there wasn't a dull moment throughout the show. It sold out (the people behind me in line got the last tickets, I am pretty sure), and it was a good crowd, and a great atmosphere.
I only have Kevin's setlist, but I thought I would share
(I think this is close to the exact order, but I can't be 100% positive)

It wasnt Kareem Abdul Jabbar. I know I heard something about Paul Revere and Marvin Gaye. I am hoping someone got it on video. I knew I should have brought my camera in with me.
People were telling him to play Ballgame (and Haircut), and he said if he had time at the end of the set, he would play something without the band, but he didn't. He added 'when you realize its a pattern and not a phase' to the end of My Brother's Blood.

That's disappointing. I've been enjoying their album a good bit here recently.

I went to the Chicago date. I thought Dead Confederate were great, exellent musicians. Their songs seemed to drag on a bit sometimes but overall a fantastic performance. Did anyone notice those old guys who came from Idaho? They were calling them the next Nirvana. I also thought All Get Out sounded better than their recordings, great live show. Kevin Devine was amazing, especially Ballgame and Cotton Crush. Too bad MO refused to play Colly Strings but oh well.

All Get Out opened and played amazing. This band will be big soon.
Dead Confederate bored me.
Kevin was spot on. His set was short and did not include Cotton Crush. Other than that, he played some new songs and a few other oldies.
Manchester opened with I believe 5 new songs then went into Sleeper, Where Have You Been, Wolves at Night, Now That You're Home, Golden Ticket, and then some others. As usual, Where Have You Been featured Kevin, his keyboardist and some other guy sharing the set with the MO drummer. He closed playing a few other songs, just him, his guitar, and a blue light. The songs aren't in order. In fact, I believe he played Sleeper second to last.
Great show, don't miss it.

Has anyone posted the audio from the Des Moines show? It's really good sound quality too. It was on the MO livejournal community a couple of days ago, only thing is, all the songs are untagged.

I might go to the Baltimore show and record it as well if I feel like driving 2 hours each way. I hope you guys like the Philly recording. I had some issues with one of my mics going in and out so there are a few places where I had to take the left channel and copy it over to the right channel.

The Philly recording and the Des Moines recording are pretty close in quality, and both are awesome. The only thing is "New Song 1" and "New Song 2" from Philly are together as one song on the Des Moines set.
Not trying to say either is wrong, just trying to figure out what to label them in iTunes..lol.

I wasn't sure what to do but it feels like a different song to me so I went with it.

Here's Manchester Orchestra's set from Philly: Manchester Orchestra Live at the Northstar Bar 12-7-08 (http://www.megaupload.com/?d=WT42V6S1). I still have to edit Kevin's set and then I'll post it.
You rule so hard. Thank you man.

For anyone who is wondering, I talked to Andy after the show to make sure he was cool with posting the recording online since they played a lot of new songs. He said he didn't care.

I kept the list in my phone, but I upgraded while in Boston so I believe that's the right order but I might be off. If anyone wants to correct, let me know.
Manchester:
New (I'm Fine)
New (Pride)
New (Kick It Up and Bury It)
New
New (Black Man)
Now That You're Home
New (My Friend Marcus)
New (Shake It Out)
New (Mean Everything to Nothing)
Wolves at Night
Golden Ticket
I Can Barely Breathe
Where Have You Been?
Again, from memory, so if anyone was there and can correct let me know.

I posted a setlist on page 15 for the Harper's Ferry show. As far as Kevin Devine goes, I think you've got You're My Incentive and Just Stay switched.
It was sort of hard to distinguish when one new Manchester song began and another ended; This is what I think they played before they started doing only old songs:
New Song
New Song (Andy Solo)
Black Man
Now That You're Home
My Friend Marcus
Shake It Out
New Song

I would challenge you to a fight over them, but turns out I'm going to be out of town for the ATL date. I might be going to Jacksonville instead though.

Oh shit, sorry. Haha I need about 24 hours of sleep to catch up on my life haha.
Yeah, the first time I saw this tour I was like, "how many songs was that?" It's expanded from six to eight or so, it's crazy.
If you don't mind me asking, where were you in the crowd? I didn't know that like anybody else there knew KD, but maybe that's just where I was.

I was front and center the whole time. 2 rows back for Kevin Devine and one row for Manchester.

It's on a Saturday isn't it? It's at the Variety Playhouse, and parking at Little 5 is usually a bitch, especially on the weekends. If you drive, I would get there as early as possible.

new song #3... was that all there was to the song? i went to the show at harper's ferry and fell in love with the song, and i could've sworn it was at least another minute long. there was another (second) verse beginning with "i remembered that i wanted to kill you" and it got more loud/emotional, and i don't remember the exact lyrics, but instead of blaming himself, he sings about how he realizes that he didn't force her to be that woman, and it's her own fault/doing. people who were at the harper's show: can you confirm this? i'm not making it up, am i? because i really fell in love with the song right then and there, and half the reason was because of the more emotional ending. people going to future shows: do you think you could try to record this song, or at the least, listen and make sure there's more to it? because now i'm really doubting myself, since this recording is only half as long as i remember it being.

True. The first verse talked about wanting to kiss her and her not being the woman she used to be, then it was about him wanting to kill her and her becoming who he forced her to be. The third part was about her becoming who she forced her to be.

I got most of it..missed the first couple seconds I think, but I got the ending and the verse you mentioned, I believe.

hmm if I drive I would leave close to 5 and just eat at L5P Pizza or something. I really don't want to take MARTA home at 12 am with all the creepers

Last night at Maxwell's was amazing. I sadly missed All Get Out but they were really nice dudes. Dead Confederate was pretty cool and like Andy told me they sound like a "Country Nirvana". Kevin Devine was absolutely phenomenal. Not one song he played was at fault and always such a nice guy. Manchester was incredible. They played a ton of new songs throughout the set, they all sounded really good. Especially "Mean everything to nothing, my friend marcus, and shake it out", the old songs were great too. He played "Where Have you been" (with you'll only end up joining them and circus lyrics) at the end. And then after Just Andy and Chris were on the floor playing some new slow song. Was an amazing show. Oh and Jesse Lacey was there, also such a nice dude.

Did Jesse come out for any songs?! I would've died to see that.
