When he came to Toronto for World Youth Day he watched break dancers and loved it..this new pope was in the Nazi Youth group as a teen (well forced in) and believes catholasism is the only true religion, he doesn't even agree with christianity. He will most likely put all the work of Pope John Paul to waste because he won't make friendly with other religions or the youth.

well the previous pope was around for 26 years and had a huge influence on the church, i believe they do not want some one to have that much influence on the church again, so they tried to find someone who was a bit older.

yeah a bit older. jp was in his 50s...ratz is 78. he does look pretty scary. but he was jps most trusted person so i dont think it will be a step back.

that's what I first thought of too. but maybe my mom was right. they didn't know who to choose so they probably chose someone that was going to die soon anyway, and then they'll choose another one for good.

my friend and i equated pop JPII as a cute old man, like he could be your grandpa.

That's a possibility, but the main reason is that he was a very close aide of JPII and he had a lot of authority in the Church already. He delivered the homily for the funeral, headed their intrachurch Conference, and was one of JPII's closest friends. So they probably just wanted someone who would do a lot like JPII did.

And plus, John XXIII was 77 when he was elected and he ended up serving over 5 years, which isn't that short in terms of the papacy.
