is there a point for a drummer to have two bass drums, and would you mic that with one mic or both with separate mics?

These days, that sort of thing is a rarity, but two different kick drums can each produce their own specific tone. If I dealt with a drummer that had two kicks, I would mic both of them. It might be different for someone else though.

Yeah. I agree. Typically the drummers to REALLY see today are the big-time metal drummers who want to look cool by having a huge drumset to show off on. It would probably be best to mic them both.

I think there might be a difference with double and single pedals.

you mean like they might prefer to use two single pedals with two bass drums instead of one bass drum and a double pedal?

I personally think it's stupid, just a pain more to manage, small quality drums FTW.

It would be cool if they were tuned differently or set up for triggers. Like have kick drum 1 set up for double bass and kick drum 2 for a different sound.

Yes, that would be my thought. I think another reason is for triggers, because you will get a better response if it is 2 drums being hit instead of one. It will sound the same, but the response for 2 triggers would be better.
