I did a search and found no thread or mention of the talented Irish singer-songwriter.

Regan's 2006 debut, The End of History, is an archetypal-but-stellar Folk album that was nominated for the 2007 Mercury Prize. As heartbreakingly introspective as the genre calls for, Regan's lyrics are engaging, as is his mastery of the compositional sound of Folk.

Will be looking into him a little more; I've heard good things before.

Yeah, his last album was pretty good but I hardly ever go back to it anymore.

I didn't give it more than a few spins in '06, and I came across it a few days ago again and decided to give it a fair chance and was very pleased I did.

Honestly, I don't think I've listened to it more than once since late '06 myself. I was pleasantly suprised he began to garner some attention in 2007. Thanks for the reminder - I'll throw on his album later on tonight.

Didn't care for this at all when it was released.

Huh. I figured you'd enjoy the album, Vinh. Bummer.

I thought I would too, musically right up my alley.

Yeah, the first thing I thought when I posted this was "IWasaCamera will have undoubtably heard of and loved The End of History." Admittedly, it's far from a great album, and really is prototypical contemporary folk that is far from subversive and doesn't take too many chances, but I enjoy it.

Don't know what it was about the Regan album that didn't hold my attention, there are certainly worse singer-songwriters around. I suppose I'm overly picky when it comes to this "genre".

At the risk of conveying a sense of nepotism, I find you to be a "purest" of most genres you enjoy, as you yourself have claimed to enjoy "the best" of each particular and respective genre, and quite frankly, Regan is far from the best of contemporary folk, so I appreciate why you might not gravitate toward him. I'm much more easier to please, I suppose. Ha.
How asskissey was this post?

I can't disagree with the purist claim, but only insofar as I enjoy what I deem the top artists in each crop and disregard most of the rest. Never been a genre purist (ex.OMG THIS ISN'T FOLK MUSIC) though.

Gotcha. I apologize if I misconstrued anything. I didn't mean to imply that you were the "that isn't Emo, fucking Ian MacKaye shits more emo than The Get Up Kids have ever produced" guy.

I've just listened to the stuff he has up on myspace right now and I'm liking it. Not a huge fan but I can see him growing on me some more with time. So I will probably venture into a full album at some point.

No worries.
Have you heard the Seun Kuti and Egypt 80 album? Aside from Craig who recommended it to me in the first place, you're probably the person I can see most enjoying it.

No I haven't. If you and Graig endorse it, I'm on board.
Completely unrelated, but you turned me on to The Tallest Man on Earth and the Nelson/Marsalis album and both are among my top ten of the year, so I thank you.

He's Fela Kuti's son. That alone warrants a download.

I've sadly never heard of Fela Kuti, prior to this thread, so it appears I have much catching up to do.

Awesome both musically and in what he stood for.
Sorry for hijacking this thread haha. I'll stop now.

Ha. By all means, man. I'm always up for good music, no matter the thread...
...unless it's Chiodos. Only Chiodos is cool enough for Chiodos' threads. Chiodos. Michigan. Punk. Chiodos.

Should have saved it for a more appropriate thread though. Hope you enjoy regardless.

I doubt I'll get too many hits in this one anyway. If anything, you're keeping it alive.

I was listening to History earlier so thought I'd search for a Fionn thread..
I'd say it might be out by the end of the year at best. He seems to be taking his time with it. I'm sure it'll be great in any case.

The End of History is very enjoyable and he's played a few new songs at shows of late. Hopefully, this is indicative of a new album.
