Here I Come Falling - Oh Grave, Where is Thy Victory
Record Label: Rise Records
Release Date: January 8, 2008

Have you ever really paid any attention to the stickers on the front of an album's case that say "For Fans Of Underoath" or "Recommended If You Like The Devil Wears Prada"? If so, this album is for you. It follows the same formula as any "For Fans Of: Underoath or The Devil Wears Prada" type of album: sing, scream, breakdown, repeat, and repeat and repeat. When playing the album, I even began to wonder if my Zune had become stuck on repeat since it seemed like I had been listening to the same song for forty minutes straight.

Oh God, Where Is Thy Victory was a safe debut album for Here I Come Falling. Following the metalcore formula very well, the album starts smoothly and progresses into your usually breakdown, and then singing parts. If you can remember listening to Underoath's They're Only Chasing Safety, you pretty much already know how this album is going to begin.

As the album progresses, you can recognize Here I Come Falling's faith reflected in their lyrics. Lines like, "Please save this ship God, please save this ship from sinking, Lord please save this ship from sinking" are some of the many examples. As well as "The battle lines have been drawn out, so pick a side, stand your ground, its time to sink or swim. The trumpets blowing, when will the war end? Lord prepare me for the war." In my opinion the lyrics add to the album because its not the same thing you've heard in every metalcore band.

As is becoming a fad, Here I Come Falling also has there own synth/keys player (who also happens to handle the clean vocals). They don't seem to realize that there isn't always a need for a synth or keyboard part in every song. For example, there's even the cliche keyboard interlude "Like Sheep Amoung Wolves," just like any other album in the metalcore scene. The keyboardist's most outstanding track is the faith filled "And So We'll Be With Lord Forever," which almost every band seems to throw on their album to prove to you that they are, in fact, a Christian band. He has some outstanding parts in a few other songs, such as "A Ghost Town For A Graveyard." As for the rest of the band, their musicianship is nothing above average. The guitarists don't do anything worth noting, and the rhythm section is nothing you haven't heard.

There was really only one outstanding track on the debut album to me and that was "The Beast From The East." Opening with a strong beginning and brutal vocals, it's become the only song that I repeatedly listen to on the album. The lyrics are, in my opinion, outstanding ("Bite the bullet, we'll fight until we die!"). Even though we have all heard the story about the battle and how these bands won't go down without a fight, they still somehow remain interesting.

Here I Come Falling has placed themselves in a tight position with their debut album Oh God, Where Is Thy Victory. There is room to grow, but they still put forth an adequate attempt. If it hadn't been for their unfortunate breakup, this band may have been able to improve upon this album and release something even better. If your looking for a very generic metalcore band, you may find this album entertaining. However, if you're looking for that next breakthrough band you may as well keep looking.

I really loved this record, It's a shame they broke up though. I thought they would have been the next big thing.

This album has some really good parts and some really blah parts. Overall though, it's pretty solid.

The breakdown at the end of Bad Company Ruins Good Manners makes me want to punch babies, haha. :P
