The Day I Vanished - The Day I Vanished EP
Record Label: None
Release Date: April 10, 2008
Who?
A band from across the pond whose third EP is starting to garner them a bit of attention. They're pretty low key, but they're sitting on an EP that is anything but that.
How is it?
Fairly solid across the board. We only get a slight taste with this three song EP, but I'm pretty interested in hearing more. Their sound is fairly straightforward throughout the three songs. Putting it in the simplest way possible, it would be considered melodic post hardcore. However, that doesn't really explain what you're going to experience throughout the tracks. All three songs follow a pretty melodic approach -- until that same melody is shattered by their energetic and explosive screaming. However, most of the songs really don't rely on the screaming, and any of the songs could stand without it (mainly due to the vocalist's above average singing).
They introduce you to their solid formula through the song "Legion." This track opens up with a short introduction, which progresses into the first verse and then further into a soaring chorus. "Phalanx" opens with the lines "Prepare for glory!" and progresses into some screaming. The whole thing is tied together by a quick guitar line that weaves in and around the vocals. "Super Being Of Science" comes storming out with some (purposely) shaky vocals and keeps it's energy through both the vocals and the solid guitar work.
Even though I've only got this little three-song introduction to the band, it's quite a good one. The solid instrumentation and above average vocals, as well as the interesting songs of course, make for a great listen. I'll be looking forward to hearing more from this band.
