"Flipside is offering a limited number of fans the chance to have BACKSTAGE ACCESS and even check out your favorite band from the SIDE OF THE STAGE. Space is limited for each band and requests will be granted on a first come, first served basis. ALL ACCESS FAN passes are $15 each (in addition to your Flipside ticket).
If you are interested please e-mail us at info@flipsidefestival.com with your name and top 3 choices of bands you would like to see from the side of the stage. "
I mean, come on, I don't even know where to start on how ridiculous this is. Tell me I'm not crazy in thinking that this is totally wrong for this festival to basically sell all-access passes without consulting the bands ahead of time to see if its cool with them."

Hmm, I don't really know what to think about this but I know I won't be paying because I am broke and can't even spare 15 bucks. I am going to see Underoath, Fall Out Boy, Flickerstick, Flipside Festival, and All american Rejects all in one week. 5 shows and I have no more money. Oh well, it should be fun seeing the show from the front of the stage anyway. :fart:

thats pretty fucking crazy that they are doing that, esp. for only 15$. some of the bands probably will not be to happy about fans running around backstage bugging them though.

Its a really awesome idea from a fan perspective, but really messed up from the band one.
Can these people legally do this without consulting the bands?

Thats kinda a rip off. At least at past Flipsides the bands are usually just hanging out with everyone anyway, so backstage won't get you much.

yea most of the time the bands are hanging out at their merch tables or watching the bands .. so this backstage thing is bizarre

Somewhat cool idea, but personally I never gave a shit about meeting the bands. I guess I'm somewhat affraid they'll disappoint. I've met like two band members since I've been going to shows (Garrett of Brand New and Fred of TBS but they were super nice guys.)
Is this just access to the sides of the stage, like a lot of people do at Warped? I imagine they wont allow these fans to roam the bus/van areas. If so, yeah that's fucked up for the bands.
yeah man flipside is getting whack... i mean i definitely like it being bigger and having lots of bands and shit, but thats just crazy. anyone who would do that is stupid too, i mean, last flipside i went to, the early november invited the entire crowd up on stage with them for their last song, and then hung out with everyone signing autographs and shit for atleast an hour after the show ended. so to pay $15 for meeting people you'll probably meet anyway is stupiddddd
I agree that the idea of buying an all access pass to anything (and making them readily available) is a tad silly. However, if you have never seen a big concert from the side of the stage, you really have no idea what you're missing. It is 326492365 x better than getting pushed around and not being able to see anything.
And in terms of not asking the bands, the legality of it (?!), and fans running around to meet them.... In a festival setting, tons of people get all access passes and no, the bands have nothing to do with who gets them. In such a setting (and not a tour they're personally involved with) they're not going to get any say. Take warped tour for example.... those bands don't know all of the people standing on the side of the stage with them. They didn't tell them they could be there. Nothing. Hell, even at club shows bands don't know everyone on "their" guestlist. And seriously.... did one of you actually think that was illegal? I don't understand the thought process behind that, but okay. In the end, the idea is pretty silly.... but being able to stand on the stage really is kind of great, but maybe not if you're paying for it. Hmmm....

I see your point, but usually all access passes are limited to people that have won them, or who have special connections within the venue (if I'm wrong, please correct), and for those that buy them, Im guessing (again correct me if I'm wrong) that the bands get at least a little bit of the profits, and as these all access passes are 15 bucks a piece, no one but the venue is going to get any profits.
As for the bands not knowing everyone on "their" guestlists anyway, well they put people on the guestlist, so even if they had met them only 5 minutes before the show, they could probably pick them out of a line-up.
that was my thought process
