I recently settled with a Squier Jagmaster after longing for a Fender Jazzmaster for a long period of time.

How hard would it be to put Jazzmaster pickups in it? I'm a complete noob at guitar customization, but I really want to learn how, because I think it would be useful. I already know where to get the pickups, but installation is the problem. I don't want to ruin my guitar.

First off, Jazzmaster pickups are slightly smaller than the humbuckers that come in the Jagmaster so it probably won't quite look right if you get them. Other than that, all you would have to do is take off the strings, unscrew the pickguard, and hook up the new pickups the same way the old pickups are. It should be really easy as long as you know how to solder.

It should be really easy. If you wanted to (and I would), you could get Vintage Vibe (http://vintagevibeguitars.com/pickup_sc.html#) to build you humbucker-sized Jazzmaster pickups. Also, they would be custom made, hand wound, and sound way better than the Fender re-issue pickups.

Thanks, but how much would the customs from Vintage Vibe be?

I'm guessing he'd do it at his regular price of $162 (for the pair). Send him an email and see what he can do: vintagevibeguitars@gorge.net

p.s. I've been planning on getting him to build a new neck pickup for my strat pretty soon, and it's going to be based on his Jazzmaster design
