www.myspace.com/northbrook (http://www.myspace.com/northbrook) <-- home-recorded acoustic songs. i can also send demos of what's been done so far in the studio to whoever is interested.
the album is largely a pop-punk album, influenced by the graduate along with the older albums of taking back sunday and fall out boy, led by a fair amount of piano, two alternating lead vocal parts, and undertones of atmospheric alternative sounds in a few tracks. it is a serious album -- by the time it's finished i will have spent over $5,000 dollars in the studio, on songs that will have been written and refined constantly over a period of three years. my ambitions for this band are also serious, and although i do intend on finishing college, touring with the band is my main ambition in life. i also plan to expand the musical horizons with this band, exploring other genres i enjoy such as alternative/indie and folk; this pop-punk album is the starting point but there will be much more to this band in future releases.
i wrote the songs myself around two years ago, at a time when i lived in the southern maryland area, and have since worked with a drummer in that area to get the songs completed and recorded. however, since i now attend and live at a college (University of Maryland) that is a 2 hour drive from home, getting down there to practice with that drummer has become prohibitively difficult and it's clear to me that in order for the band to go anywhere im going to need to find newer local members.
i'm not looking for just any musicians. i'm looking for people who make music a priority in their lives, so really if you're looking for a band just as an on-the-side fling, or to get free access to clubs and to meet girls you might want to look for something a little less ambitious. also, im sick of writing songs by myself and teaching them to other people; i want a band where all of the members are involved in the writing process, always adding new ideas to every song rather than letting one person develop the whole thing all the time, so i'll be looking with people who show creativity and are not afraid to throw in their own ideas. you don't need to be the MOST talented musician -- this band isnt the improv/solo/virtuoso type band -- you just need a skill set thats proficient enough to match the kind of music we'll be writing. in other words, you really only have to be comfortable with your instrument. im looking more for creativity than talent. and last but not least, i'll be hoping we click personally. to me a band cant just be a collection of musicians, it has to be a group of friends who hang out and get on with each other enough to enjoy 4 months together in a smelly van.
well that was long as hell. at shows, i'm a rhythm gutiarist/vocalist. i need:
-a second lead vocalist (dont have to be trained, just sing in your own voice. you just need a good sense of pitch. it would be awesome if you were also one of the following things:)
-a lead/second guitarist
-a bassist
-a drummer
-a piano player (being able to program is a plus but not needed, the music is a lot more about piano than synth)
send me a PM or reply to this thread if you're interested. you can also message the band myspace, or email me at theguy77@umd.edu but the easiest way to reach me is probably via a PM on this site.
