No new ideas, no unique sounding songs, just recycled stuff that has been heard from them a million times and it's boring to me. All of the songs sound the same--same ABCBCDC song structure, typical upbeat chorus with typical lyrics. I usually like when band's keep the same general sound from album to album... but that album is crosses the line. It's just not refreshing and I was hoping to hear some NEW songs on it, not pieces of old ones mashed and crammed together. However, I do love TREOS, The Higher and TSL... A LOT. All three of those discs are solid.

Haha, I respect that. I just like when a band's sound noticabely matures... like TSL for instance. They have a refreshing new side to their sound, but it's still remotely the same and more mature. I just think FOB lacks that.

Frank... remember when bands were held high because they stuck to what they were known for. Look at The Beatles, Elvis, and my personal favorite Michael Jackson (just kidding). These were some of the biggest artists of the past century and they all did songs that were very typical of one another.

Most bands do stick to the same song structure for the most part. As Casey said in the TREOS interview, they use like 3 different ones throughout the entire album.

I am not a huge fan of FOB but I mean I enjoy what they do and they have emerged in an amazing way.

Yes, most bands do stick to the same song structure... but when that song structure also involves very similar lyrics, melodies and instrumentals in every song... it becomes repititve and bland by track 4.

Everything you mention is the foundation of pop music. Simple, similar choruses. Simple harmonies. Simple lyrics. It's formulaic because in western culture that's successful. It goes all the way back to Tin Pan Alley and sheet music.

I'm with you though, the bands I really enjoy are writing things that others arent both lyrically and musically. I'm not saying that it's all I enjoy, just what I seem to enjoy the most for the longest period of time.
