That was filmed around here this summer. Got to see them filming around the city which was pretty neat. Other than that, the trailer's kind of.....ehh. Seems more in line with his action thriller movies like Blood Work that he hasn't done in a while.

Looks like it might be good. Clint Eastwood just getting pissed off at the Asians.

I think this looks atrocious.
Is this Eastwood's audition to take over for Bale as Batman or something?
The dialogue is horrible and I couldn't be less interested in the premise.

"Yeah, I blow a hole in your face and then I go in the house. And I sleep like a baby. You can count on that. I used to stack fucks like you five feet high in Korea, use you for sandbags."

The scene with the priest and Clint near the end after the attack is really fantastic and incredibly subtle for a Clint Eastwood movie.

Fantastic movie. I'm not even going to try to be cool about it: I was choked up like crazy during the last ten+ minutes, I can't even remember the last time a movie made me react like that. The part when they showed his dog laying on the porch looking sad made me almost lose it.

i've already said this in a couple AP threads so far. Clint was awesome, as usual, the directing was good, but all the other actors were terrible. plus the premise for me was just a little too extreme for me. i guess i don't know much about michigan gangs but still

They are, but I felt it was in line with the character.
This movie left a surprisingly bad taste in my mouth, so to speak. The actors, apart from Eastwood, were awful for the most part, and I had a few gripes with the story itself.
Actually, the more I look back on the movie, the more I dislike it

Besides the fact that the guy who plays the priest is one of the worst actors to play an important role in a big movie in recent memory, this movie is quite awesome. Clint Eastwood is fantastic in it, and pretty much is the ultimate badass in it. I had a lot of emotions tied to it. I really, really liked it.

Decent movie. Eastwood was great, the kid was alright, and everyone else seemed like they fell out of a made for tv movie. The priest sounded like a dumb middle schooler. The dog did a good job though.

this move looks good and it's been getting stellar reviews to top it all off
seems that Clint is back to being a badass!
This movie was very good, but it did have some flaws. I couldn't stop thinking that the plot was only slightly above a Lifetime film. However, in Eastwood's hands it was a lot better than it could have been.
Clint was awesome though. I really hope that this isn't his last performance.

I liked the movie a great deal and Clint Eastwood was so badass in it.
This was a great movie, I saw it this evening. Especially for someone having to deal with the one track mind of a character Eastwood painted for the audience in film. Definitely steller. It saddens me to think that when people go to see it, people will laugh at all the racism demonstrated in it. It's actually pretty scary how similar the elderly people who come in to a restaurant I work at and to Walt in the film.

this movie was really good and i got a little more emotional at the end than i thought i would. some of the acting was a bit shaky, but i thought clint was really strong, and that's all that matters. the shot at the end where they have clint lying there dead like he is on the cross i thought was a bit too much and i kind of had to roll my eyes a bit, but overall i thought it was very well shot.

It's not a bit much because that's the whole point of his existence in the neighborhood. He exists in that neighborhood in order to sacrifice himself to save the souls and lives of everyone else in it. The entire film is an allegory for that, hence the visual queue at the end.

It really doesn't change how I view the movie overall, I just think there could of been a better way to convey that message.

A lot of you are bashing the acting(which I agree was distracting, esp. the priest) but all of the Hmong actors had never been in a film before except Doua Moua. They did open casting calls for all of the Hmong.

There are plenty of films with nonprofessional actors who have never been in a film before who give terrific performances, this is not one of those. It's almost like Clint just made sure they read their lines, said cut, and moved on.

I wouldn't say I'm bashing it but it was distracting at times because it didn't feel real what-so-ever. The priest and the asian kid were awful.
The priest was bad the entire film, but he was also given some of the worst dialogue which didn't help his cause.
Gus Van Sant has used non-actors for several of his recent films (Elephant, Paranoid Park), and I thought both of those films had performances far better than these actors.
Tribute2Ben89
02/07/09, 07:44 AM
Everyone's shitting on the priest's acting, which I will agree was bad, but I think the worst acting was the the female, I think her name was Sue. When the gangsters are hitting on her, the mix of awful dialogue and high school drama class acting completely ruined any connection to the scene.
Other than bad support acting, I liked this movie a lot.
