about fucking time. now i wont have drive thru trying to ram it down my throat anymore.
the early november definitely had the best set of the night. acceptance was also very good sounding, as was motion city soundtrack. this day & age was awesome, but i only watched some of their set because we left to go watch TSL, where kenny singled me out and harassed me because i told him to cut his hair. he needs to learn how to take a joke/comment.
and woah man, who took all my scene points? i didnt realize anyone actually paid any attention to anything i post here...

Acceptance was great. Jason has such an amazing voice live. I heard he has some pretty interesting rituals before a show to make his voice sound the best it can. The Early November did sound great as well. Gatbsy's American Dream and The Receiving End of Sirens were just stellar. This Day & Age and Motion City Soundtrack were their usual amazing selves live as well.
What did Kenny say to you when you made the joke?
he said back, "cut my hair? fuck you, get a life" and then the whole crowd booed/"ohhh!ed" me.
kind of makes me lose respect for him considering he can't take a little comment from the crowd. i wanted to find him after the show and tell him i was just joking and make him feel bad for saying that shit to me. it's kind of embarassing to have the lead singer of the headlining band talk say t hat kind of shit to you, singled out, in the crowd.
this day & age was awesome though. we watched the beginning of their set, went and got harassed by kenny, and then came back for the last song. it was really surprising there wasn't more people watching TDAA.

people just love to heckle and talk shit. you dont think he has heard it before? you could at least have been old school and been like "dude! you're getting a dell!". but nah, he doesnt even look like that kid anymore anyways.
treos was amazing, like usual. my fav sets were treos, HIPV, acceptance and point hollow.

TREOS was dead on. They sounded great and their one guitarist that doesn't do any vocals has the craziest dancing moves while playing. So sick. I couldn't stop watching him. JamisonParker was great as well. The new songs sounded stellar. All the bands I watched did a great job.

Yeah, more people need to watch This Day & Age. Their live show is what made me fall in love with their music. Their drummer, Steve, just goes nuts live and Jeff's voice is always right where it should be. It was good to at least see a handful of kids singing along. They were kind of bummed they had to compete with The Early November and The Starting Line, but they did their best with what they had and gave it their all despite the "small" crowd.

i don't even know why it came out of my mouth. i couldn't care less about kenny's hair, it just came out of my mouth before i had time to think.

Motion CIty was sick and of course so was Over It. but my favorite performances of the day were at the local stages. The Spolight is an amazing band. so is Brookside and Patent Pending from Long Island. in my opinion the best bands there were the local bands

yeah holy shit their drummer was crazy. he was the most upbeat, energetic guy i've ever seen. the singer, jeff was a really cool guy to, talked to him for a little.
i also spoke with jeff, the drummer for the early november during TSL's set, me and my friend were just sitting in the field after TDAA's set, and Jeff was standing right behind the crowd. no one even noticed him

three years earlier at the first flipside festival (actually i think it was the first, not sure) they closed the show, back when they were still like an up-and-coming band and absolutely tore the place up. everyone rushed up on stage and rocked with the band and by the end of the song, the only thing you could hear was the drums because all the guitars and mics got unplugged and it was just crazy. so i think thats why they decided to retire it at flipside.
i'm going to stop posting about all this now... it's just that i'm really bored at school in my joke of a tech drawing class...

did nobody watch them? or did people watch them and just not like it? they played right as the sun was going down and their indie/piano rock was the perfect music for that moment, chris had the best voice of anyone there today and they just look like they are having so much fun every time i see them play, damn good band!

good, maybe you'll think twice next time before you make a fool of yourself
why do so many people go to a show and all of a sudden think they're don rickles? 99% of you are not funny, especially when you try to scream cute little anecdotes to get attention...

that thing with Kenny reminded me of my freshman year of college...wow, 4 years ago, god damn, anyway, story goes that they had released Say it....about 2 weeks earlier and were headlining a show...there were probably 100 kids there max, and I kept shouting out for them to play leaving, being it was one of the only songs on both their ep and the full length...well when I reminded him of that he shot back pretty angrily "oh wow that kids right, that song is the height of our artistic talent and we should just stop playing our other songs b/c leaving will never be topped" I was like wow...you're an asshole, and then they closed with the song, so apparently the band thought as highly of the song as i did/do.

way back ago when tbs/northstar/reunion show were opening for starting line at a show, right when tsl got up some guy kept yelling for them to play hit or miss, kenny told the dude to eat a dick. ew
um where to begin.... best bands 1Treos (by far) 2. acceptance 3. jamison parker 4. HIPV 5.motion city . that's my top five based on quality of performance, sound, and crowd reaction. HIPV had the biggest crowd of the entire day bigger then TEN or TSL and they played mid day. oh as a side note POINT HOLLOW kicked ass up on the music box #1 stage they had the biggest pit of the entire day bigger then main stage and some kid got his nose broken which is why that ambulance showed up. after their set when they found out what happend they went back stage and got every single band from main stage to sign a poster for the kid including ten and tsl and then brought that poster to the kid in the hospital where he was gettin his nose set. so that was really cool to do for a fallen fan.
yeah also ten told that story about how they closed w/ "every nights another story" at their first flipside at providense and Ace said that's why this would be the perfect time to retire that song.
oh and dude that yelled at kenny he also told you to go fuck yourself and get a life. (i have no opinion on the matter i'm just givin all the facts) matt the guitarist told kenny he'd look cute if he cut the hair.

bands usually always have set lists, very rarely do they go and play something people ask for. Even if it looks like it so, it is because people scream out every song. When finally someone screams out the song next on their list, they play and then that kid feels like he accomplished something when he really didn't haha.

In my opinion best sets of the day were TREOS (freakin amazing), TDAA (even though so few people were watching), and Melee (theyre always on). I think GAD and Acceptance did really well, but it was hard for me to get into the sets being played on the main stage...we were standing in a ditch and you couldn't even see the drummers. Maybe I'm just used to the older flipsides with the smaller stages. Overall it was a pretty good day of music though.

It was sad to see T.E.N retire that song. Me and my friends were the one at the soundboard filming the bands. We asked ace after which song he wanted to be put up on the internet for downloading and he said Every Night, without a doubt. So that will be up shortly. We also did some filming for As Tall As Lions who did an awesome set minus the soundboard being totally jacked up. HIPV allowed us to film as well, and MY America Heart too. But i must say, one of the best sets (next to TEN) had to be Jamison Parker.
1 other cool story, while i was in the porta-john behind the stage i heard someone warming up vocals in the other porta-john and i got out and it was Justin from mcs. Too bad his voice is still hurting...

Yea i love this day and age, i saw them in a coffe shop called minglewood in rockford last summer with the spill canvas, it was awesome, only like 15 people showed up before the spill canvas though; and even then only like 20 some were there total.

The Receiving End of Sirens were my favorite band of the whole day. The were amazingly dead on and great. The singers have amazing voices and they are so much fun to watch.
Gatsby's American Dream were incredible too. The only thing not cool about their set, was this kid dancing next to me. He was doing some trance/hip hop dancing that you would see on an Usher video, it was very lame. The stagehand kept pointing him out and laughing at him. If you are on this board dude.. stop going to shows.
The singer from Acceptace has the most flawless voice ever, it was terrific.
The Starting Line sucked, but it was awesome when the fence fell and everyone toppled over each other.

i absolutely second Jared's comment about the other guitarist's dance moves (TREOS). its so hard not to watch him. he is so into it. the 15 minutes that i did get to see them play @ bamboozle were fantastic.
ps. TEN said they were gona retire the song @ flipside? they said the same thing at bamboozle the night before. oh well.

Although I dont care for TEN much myself, whats with this trend of bands retiring songs that helped get them big when they only have one full length and an 2 e.p.s worth of stuff to draw from anyway. Christ Radiohead still plays Creep even though they hate it, because they relize its important to their fans. When TEN is a few albums deeper in maybe then it wont seem like they dont care about the fans this song won them. But right now it just seems a bit moody.

eh wrong...
the correct answer was..."cut my hair? get your har cut. better yet, get a life" then the whole crowd ooohed and aaahed. he has the right to be pissed. the joke is not funny and over played. its just like the michelle nolan your hot tidbit. at first it can be funny and so forth, but after a long time its just dumb.
my favs were (in no order): acceptance, tsl, ten, jamisonparker, chronic future, and patent pending. all the other bands i saw were good but these bands were fabulous.

maybe i am the only one not getting it, but what is wrong with kens hair? never in the history of rock bands have i heard so much about someones hair until ken decided to stop looking like a *** with short bleeched hair and actually grow it out his natural color. plenty of other bands have long hair (bassist for unwritten law, r2k from finch, the bassist for say anything, andrew wk, bert from the used, keith from etid, thats moneen guy, adam from taking back sunday, gerard and the afro guitarist from mcr, the guitarist from hit the lights, the list goes on...), so why does the world stop turning when ken effing vasoli gets long hair too? i feel like i am at a fashion show when i hear people say 'uuuggh, get a haircut kenny!'.
i refuse to let go of the idea that long brown hair is sweeter than short bleeched hair anyday of the year, and if you disagree then may i suggest that you stop listening to tsl and start listening to eminem
at bamboozle ace cleared up the rumors and said that they will be releasing a TRIPLE cd off drive-thru. oh and guess who snuck in their digital camer and took some videos of FOB, FSF, TSL, and TEN.......

There's a good chance they were friends of the band members...considering they are from nj and pa respectively.
But hey, I'm 21, I goto shows and sing, but most of the scene is high school kids. You can't be blind to that.

Kenny is a fucking idiot. I had friends that saw him at (I THINK) Roseland in NYC (I could be wrong). Either way, there were professional classical musicians striking outside because they were being REPLACED by tracks and more recorded music, etc. Basically, they wanted to keep playing live at some sort of events and the people wanted to get rid of them. So genius Kenny gets on stage and says, "You see those picketers outside? Well fuck them! Being a musician is the best job in the world and they should be grateful..." blah blah blah. Either way, he made an ass of himself, and after my friend emailed the band, they had an apology on the site the next day. He needs to learn that their music is fun but no one wants any sort of deep thoughts, or any talking at all for that matter, from Kenny.

~Spitalfield isnt getting enough love! The voices were right on and they definitely gave the crowd a lot of energy that we sooo needed.
~Acceptance and Jamison Parker were awesome but Gatsbys BORED me I guess cause I just dont like them that much I dunno
~My American Heart was awesome too but the had a really small pit because I doubt many people knew who they were.
~Rufio SUCKED (thier instruments sounded like jumbled noise and the new stuff wasnt that desirable) and I could not WAIT for them to get off so that I could see Motion City who rocked it as usual!
~HIPV was the sex and played and all the songs I love (new and old)
~TEN was awesome too and everytime I see them they get better! I especially loved it when the bassist? jumped into the crowd at the end
~I heard TDAA playing from afar but I really wanted to see TEN so I didnt go see them :(
Fewer band members were walking around than I thought would but I met all the ones I wanted so its A OK :)

TREOS was dead on? You're so wrong. The took the album and surpassed it live. Seriously, the album I was like this is good, but I wasn't that into it, now that I've seen them live, I'm going to give their album about 3 or 4 more chances.

Ace said they were retiring the song at Flipside and was "PRETTY SURE" it would be the lsat time they played it ... that doesnt GUARANTEE that they wont play it again. Especially if people keep saying he retired it the day before at Bamboozle

Weird, I thought Rufio did well (Rufio was terrible the other times I saw them) and Gatsby's was excellent, but yeah, not liking Gatsby's prob would bore you.

yeah, Brand New retired Failure by Design but played it on the Deja Tour. doesnt mean that much really.
edit: just noticed i quoted the same person twice, not harrassing you or anything, I promise

I LOVE Melee, they were so fucking amazing. I was sad not many people watched them, but they were incredible.
My other favorites of the day: Gatsby's, TREOS, This Day & Age, and As Tall As Lions
Of the 11 times I've seen Melee, they've never put on a bad show. They just have so much fun on stage and rock out. They had a small crowd and a horrible day (van broke down in Walmart parking lot) but still put on an awesome crazy show. I love them, incase you couldnt tell by my user name.

and to all those who are saying "who gives a fuck about kenny's hair, i don't, it was a joke and i was just starting shit. i couldnt care less about his fucking hair

Yea. The Ascend stage was running about 30 minutes behind. TDAA was supposed to be on at the same time as TEN, but ended up during Starting Line instead.

it sucks they're retiring this song considering its one of their most energetic songs and they usually end their sets with it.

i was keeping strict timing of the event cause i had to get back to school two hours away. im pretty sure TEN ended their set at 7:47 ish and I remember hearing "Long Walk Home" in between songs..I know that if it were TSL that I heard that song during I would have ran over because I dont really care for them

Not related to this in any way (thank God) and I might lose scene points over this, but anyway, well I downloaded the Limp Bizkit album for laughs right? Well the album is not even funny, in fact it's downright horrible. It was somehow worse then I expected. Wow, I'm dumbfounded. Anybody ever hear the "hardcore" (I do not consider it hardcore, trust me) version Vanilla Ice made of ice Ice Baby? Well every song sounds exactly like that. I apologize to the computer for ever having such horrid noise stored on it. The best part about the album? It's a 7 song EP. 7 songs of crap as opposed to the usuall 16 songs of crap. My judgement might not be the best though because I only could stand like a minute of every song. I spent more time typing this then listening to it. May God help us all whenever this is released. Recommended for fans of jumping head first over 10th story balconies.
Edit: Wow, it turned into an album review, so here's my score. 0/100.
Re-edited just to show the album "review"

I left TDAA early, and TSL was playing Best of Me.
which makes sense because TDAA started at 7:35 ish and TSL was on right around 8

They hit the stage at 7:50 actually I think. I remember Melee kept going after the scheduled time, like 2 more songs, and then TDAA had to set up
eh doesnt really matter.

I drove all the way from Indiana for a band called The Spotlight. I sold merch for them all day and handed out flyers. From walking around all day a lot of bands didnt get enough credit. Brookside fucking owned. TEN, HIPV, MCS were my favorites on the main stage. Spitalfield started out strong but they got really sloppy towards the end. My boys in the spotlight fucking rocked out on the music box 2 stage. But to end the show, i must say that the starting line was HORRIBLE. I've seen them 4 times and that was definately the worst. They were all sorts of off time when they played. They sounded like ass. We left to go check out this Day and Age who were owning on the stage that was out in the middle of nowhere. That about rounds out the day... now let the hating begin

some of my favorites were Over it, HIPV (spencer owns), Spitalfield, New Years Day, Motion City Soundtrack (they have yet to let me down), My American Heart, and the locals The Spotlight and Julian Gallows...
but Acceptance was def my overall fav band at flipside. Theyre just a great band and really really awesome guys.

I saw many bands throughout the day at Flipside and enjoyed every one. I also met lots of really cool people. The day was amazing overall......
However.....my favorite part of the day, and I'm surprised noone else has mentioned this(I would be incredibly surprised if I was the only one who saw)......was seeing Adam (ex-Homegrown) at the show!!!

I saw him and talked to him. His new band, New Years Day, put on a pretty good show. Sadly I left early to check out JamisonParker, but I still liked it.

how was treos and jamisonparker? its not a surprise to me that acceptance, TEN, and motion city were good as you guys said, becuase they are all amazing live
TREOS did SOOO good!! I was VERY impressed! and jamisonparker was great!! the lead singer kept getting malled by girls all day!
New Years Day: I'm usually not a fan of girl fronted bands, but I decided the check them out because the lead singer is dating Rick from Melee...and i adore them, and I was very pleased. i grabbed a cd
Days Like These: great show. that was the second time i saw them and i was very happy
Jamisonparker: awesome!!
Gatsby's American Dream: SOOOOOOOOOOOO great! the stage kind of sucked though
Last Week: These guys are ALWAYS so wonderful to watch. they're fans are so fun and they are such great guys.
Melee: MIND BLOWING. I love them. their live show is always a thrill for me. those guys honestly rock out hardcore...they were having a terrible day but you would never know that by watching them!
Rude Buddha: these guys don't get enough credit for how great their live show is. and aaron was sick too!!
TREOS: i was EXTREMELY impressed.
This Day and Age: I was very upset that they were scheduled during starting line. they are a much better band then the time slot they were shafted to.
Starting Line: Disappointed in their set...it could have just been the extremely crappy stage. But a lot of people were buzzing about how the show was not good.
As Tall As Lions: superb!! that was my first time seeing them and i was impressed
33 west: they rock out so great. most underrated local band
Tokyo Rose: I'm not the biggest fan of this band, however they played a new song called Amber Eyes or something like that and I really liked that song. So, they moved up in my book.
all in all...i was very happy with the day.

i have been playing in the flipside festivals every year since the very first one where the headliner was homegrown, with my old band underscore. this flipside was just INCREDIBLE. i loved over-it (as i always do). motion city soundtrack was awesome that was my first time seeing them. i did not get to see new years day, which made me sad but i did get one of their demos and talked to keith(who was very nice) the spotlight rocked the shit out of it. me vs. the monster was sick. gatsbys american dream is the weirdest/most awesome band ever. missed rufio. (again dammit!!!) acceptance is pretty much flawless live...i really enjoyed them, the early november was sweet, i really like that new song decoration and i watched the starting line from right behind tom...which was just incredible...and i dont think kennys hair looks that bad. i also enjoyed playing my first flipside with my new band brookside. all in all it was an awesome day for me...
oops i posted from bretts id. ah well hiddesn in plain view was the shit as well

TEN and Gatsby's American Dream stole the entire show by far for me. HIPV also put on an amazing show. and i was against the gate for all three! i took a ton of pictures. they're up in my myspace and LJ. let me know what you think:

TREOS was dead on. They sounded great and their one guitarist that doesn't do any vocals has the craziest dancing moves while playing. So sick. I couldn't stop watching him. JamisonParker was great as well. The new songs sounded stellar. All the bands I watched did a great job.
Yeah, more people need to watch This Day & Age. Their live show is what made me fall in love with their music. Their drummer, Steve, just goes nuts live and Jeff's voice is always right where it should be. It was good to at least see a handful of kids singing along. They were kind of bummed they had to compete with The Early November and The Starting Line, but they did their best with what they had and gave it their all despite the "small" crowd.
i totally agree with everything you said about this day and age. the exact same thing for me. their cd really doesn't do them justice. steve is amazing! and jeff's voice IS never off....i think if it was he'd have a cow
