I'm a big fan of:
The National
Sufjan Stevens
MGMT
The Airborne Toxic Event
Damien Rice
The Decemberists
Band Of Horses
Death Cab For Cutie (Ok they're not indie anymore but i still group them in)
The Shout Out Louds
Keane
Stars
Frou Frou
Elliott Smith
MuteMath
The Arcade Fire
Sigur Ros
Sondre Lerche
Andreas Johnson
Spoon
But i've been listening to the majority of this stuff for years now...Very rarely do I find new indie bands that I really enjoy...so any of you indie fans out there recommend me some new stuff.

M83 is pretty similar to MGMT...more relaxed though.
Okkervil has not made a bad CD yet. I'd start with The Stage Names.
Built To Spill is hard to get into but I figured you might like them.

Start with There's Nothing Wrong With Love. And if you want to be even more badass, start with Ultimate Alternative Wavers. One of my personal favorite lo-fi indie records.

Rec threads like this are so dumb. It would take him over a year just to check out all the bands listed on two pages.
Well not if he just listens to a few songs on their MySpace. He can run through 20 bands in a night easily.

Even though I contributed, he could just as easily check out an indie site, or peruse around the forum for a while.

Or just make a topic and wait. Much easier.

I'm more judgemental than most and even I don't think that a few listens on myspace is enough. I think you definitely know what you hate from that but it takes a lot more than a few myspace listens to distinguish to average from the good from the excellent.
Well if he likes the sound he can pursue from there but if he knows he doesn't like the sound he leaves it.

If he likes indie chances are he will like pretty much everything rec'd enough to give it a proper listen but he could never do that what with the masses of suggestions. There should be some kind of etiquette to rec's where no one lists more than three bands/albums.
I agree. Listing 150 bands doesn't help him. It makes sifting through stuff too hard.
Or search and find the exact same thread.
