considering I've been getting more and more into hardcore, I'd figure I'd explore the roots of it since most of what I listen to is recent stuff. I have the S/T and Quickness and I enjoy both of them. where should I go next? is God Of Love really that bad? is HR's solo work any good?

I would say the self titled is as good as it gets. Move on to some other bands. Or else check out the live DVDs.

Self-titled is most excellent, everything after that not so much.

don't listen to either of the people who responded. in addition to what you have, you want rock for light and i against i. rise is also a cool album musically.

i against i is my favorite bad brains record for sure. best band.

Rock For Light has definitely has some choice cuts ("Coptic Times", "How Low Can A Punk Get", etc.) but I think I am the only person in the world who doesn't enjoy I Against I.

I've heard I Against I is their best overall outside of the S/T. I only d/l'ed Quickness because I saw the video for "Soulcraft" recently and I love that song.

what do you think of God Of Love or Build A Nation?

Who needs Bad Brains when you have H.R.'s solo music! :-d:-d

check out the live DVDs.

Regardless of what albums you like this is still worthwhile.

And honestly I just don't like Rock For Light as much as S/T.

This.

Although their latest had a few okay songs, I wouldn't bother with it.

Get the s/t and Rock For Light for sure. One of the best bands ever, obviously.

I actually really enjoyed Build A Nation. I love the songs and I thought the way that Adam Yauch produced it was totally rad. The mix reminded me a little of The Stooges' Raw Power.

god of love can be skipped. build a nation is a decent album but it's obviously really new, so it's sort of irrelevant... bad brains' best work was done in the 80s.

Despite almost getting punched in the face, my friend somehow also got bit on the forehead, it was very good. I saw a few guys around my parents age there too! That was kinda cool. Great show though.

Agreed, completely. I didn't really like Build a Nation though, I'd give it a C-/D+.

how is HR live? from the shitty youtube vids I've seen from recent shows, he seems alot more subdued and such

Definitely. No flips or anything cool like that haha :P. Since the guy must be in his 50's or something like that. A lot more toned down but he still had it. I was kind of disappointed though, they did a lot from Build a Nation. It is their recent album and all, but still. Especially since I was at the venue where they played at and happened to be banned from D.C. He also can't quite hit the high notes as well either, anymore.

I think an encounter with HR would be interesting to say the least. but hey, as long as I got to see "Sailin On" I would be satisfied haha :-d
