This is the Bamboozle (www.thebamboozle.com) discussion thread. I created it because I'm curious to see what people who attended it have to say about it. Best sets? Worst sets? Was it worth the money? What improvements are needed, if any? Was it organized or disorganized? Was it better or worse than past Skate And Surf's?...etc.
Note: If you did attend the festival, please rate it on a scale from 1 - 10 overall, 10 being perfect and 1 being disgraceful.

all I have to say is that I wish I was American and/or I was there to see this spectacle.

umm i had a good time... i didn't like how all the good merch was upstairs in the convention hall and i had to wait 2 hours to get to it... umm set times were cut short a lot.. i liked the bled and saosin.. other bands were good too.. umm i would give it a 6.5

the bands, when they actually got to play were lovely.
the festival itself, was the most disorganized piece of shit ever.
max cruise should never be allowed to run anything ever again.
i mean seriously, skate and surf was 100 times better.
i saw like 30-40 bands last year. and this year i saw maybe 15...because of all the time and venue changes (without much notice at all unless i ran into a band member randomly)
on a scale from 1 to 10, i give it a 4.
better luck next time max cruise.

excuse my non american-ness, but has Skate N Surf now been replaced by Bamboozle?
it was disorganized...set times were always being pushed back, the power cut out during saosin's set, on friday max cruise forgot to get a power permit from the city so the outdoor stage started like 3 hours late, people could not get into the convention hall on sat night not even the merch guys for fall out boy or the starting line

There's a thread in the forums that's doing pretty well that's a Bamboozle thread. Someone should just put the link in here.

Bamboozle was the most unorganized piece of shit I've ever attended, but some of the bands were entertaining. I went on Sunday to check out the free stages. I was able to see Scatter the Ashes, Boys Night Out, The Chariot, Say Anything, Halifax, Street Dogs, Flogging Molly, Kane Hodder, Hellogoodbye, and I caught the last song of Bayside. It was pretty good sets, except now I hate Kane Hodder after seeing them, because they are fucking retarded. Everything was so fucking unorganized, I can't stress that enough. Set times were being changed like crazy. Flogging Molly and Bouncing Souls were supposed to play on the Main Stage (which wasn't free) but ended up getting moved outside to the free stages, which was cool. Say Anything had to put on the best show of the day, next to Boys Night Out.
Skate and Surf last year was so much better.

Overall, I had a great time. I got to see some of my favorite bands over the three days. My only beef was the poor organization. I missed Funeral for a Friend because the Hurley Stage was backed up the entire time. And I was saddened that I missed the FSF performance because they wouldn't let anyone into the Convention Center. Anyone get to see any of those two? But seeing Motion City Soundtrack twice and Straylight Run acoustic was enough to make up for the shortcomings.
My suggestion for next time is maybe putting the main stage outside..

hahahah nowhere NEAR as nuts as the now-infamous 1500-post unexplained phenomenon
i felt like musically it didn't hold up to the last 2-3 years of skate surf. the over crowding issue was BULLSHIT, but the fact that they got chris and fsf made it very very special. also, all the set times got messed up....i mean shit happens...but it got pretty bad. and sunday just ended up a complete mess. on friday they had to move the boardwalk stage next to the made stage also resulting in shorter set times. and that stage started like 2-3 hours late due to the fact that they didn't have a power permit.
worth 90 dollars? not exactly. but i would have paid 150 just for saturday and fsf.
best sets:academy is,further seems forever, hot rod circuit acoustic, thrice, armor for sleep.
worst sets:just the fact that some bands should of had longer to play.
skate surf 03 was a 7,
skate surf 04 was 8.5/9
this year was like a 5.5.

Overall Rating: 4
It was disorganized. Right from the beginning stages had to be moved due to not being able to get electricity to them and even after that the stages times screwed up. After that it was one shit storm after another. I won't get into the details because it has been said numerous times. The PA in the main room was set up badly and unless you had ear plugs to block out the high end you weren't hearing very good sound.
Good sets: Alkaline Trio, Copeland, Motion City Soundtrack, Minus The Bear(best set of the day in my eyes), High School Football Heroes, With Honor, Thrice, Waking Ashland, New Amsterdams, Hot Rod Circuit, Jameson Parker, Hellogoodbye, the Modern and Chase Pagan.
Disappointments: Mae (they didn't have it...they have sounded better), Anterrabae, Nightmare of You, Lucero, Piebald, Circa Survive (on the main stage...the room was empty and they sounded awful).
Overall, I was disappointed. I saw some good bands but the cons outweighed the pro's of the weekend. The only thing making it at all bareable was being drunk most of the time.
i want to know what people thought of kevin devine.
I missed him due to time changes...pissed me off. I wanted to see him so badly.

i went all 3 days of the fest
first of all it was way unorganized
not being to able to get in for further seems forever was nonsense...i waited 2 hours or more to try to get in while midtown, senses fail, and further played and couldnt get in.
the set times being messed up
besides that i had a really good time...saw so many bands which was good and there were alot of good sets.
i thought it was pretty funny how they put circa survive on the main stage and everyone thought underoath was going on all of a sudden they come on and everyone starts leaving. They played a great set and it was good alot of people walked away cause it was a little bit less crowded.
hopefully skate and surf happens next year and not this because skate and surf was 100 times more organized...but yea regardless i had alot of fun.
i dont even know how to rate this...cause i had fun but for the organizational part very low.

seeing fsf made it for me but its extremely messed up that there were lots of people who went just for that and could not get in. i drove all the way from FL for it and i would throw a fit if i didnt get in. . i had never been to skate and surf so i cant really contrast and compare but the bamboozle was run pretty poorly and hey whats the deal with the customer service at the howard johnson. whats with the old guy who just wont talk. it was really bizzare haha. the highlights of the weekend were for me, say anythings set, of course the further seems forever reunion and seriously the starting line were the most amazing band in the 3 days. they just put on the best show.

Pros
so many bands the saturday main stage alone was worth all 3 days tickets
so many stages that there really was not any down time
Further Seems Forever I didnt really know any of the songs but it was amazing
Hidden In Plain View in a big venue setting you know its coming
Madison was it me or did they play their hearts out so they can get on drivethru or rushmore oh yeah bc richard and stephanie were there watching it this band is going to be on the main stage soon cross my fingers
the outside stage that was setup as warped were you would see one band and just walk over to see another
i can make a mess like nobodys business again if you saw it was sweet who knows if we will see it again
seeing sets from bands with new song the starting line silverstein funeral for a friend boysnightout
seeing hit the lights when the original schedule allowed me not too
bands playing old stuff that was a suprise a static lullaby and finch
a day at the fair is going to be big on rushmore david melillo is going to big on drive thru and i saw them now b4 they get huge
bands playing the big stage and small stage aka say anything
midtown wearing gay on his shirt sweet and oh yeah he was driving next to me as i left the sunday show
Cons
that people could not get in to see fsf this was not a con for me but a con for many
the schedule was always wrong and never really updated to tell people when things were and they kinda got it right on sunday and then it went to hell
(not for me but i know there were some people) I came to see flogging molly bouncing souls and alkaline trio and i paid 30 dollars what bs and fm is free and i have to choose between fm and alk tri ahahahahaha
that the merch of the bands that played outside could not be bought by some people
i missed a thorn for every heart because they were filled to capactiy damn it they were supposed to be outside on hot topic stage not bamboozle fault just rain
i missed bayside when i was originally supposed to see them
ghosts of berkely aka boys night out that sucks for them they should have moved them inside somewhere
Grades
Band choice bamboozle wins
lines Skate and surf wins
crowd inside convention hall skate and surf fest wins
main stage lineups bamboozle wins
scheulding and sticking to it skate and surf fest wins
overall bamboozle wins for now
i give it an 8.5 out of ten losing points for too many schedule changes and lines into the main convetion hall

Before I get to the bands, I must say that the organization was awful. The fact that they started two hours late on Friday is a joke. All the set times were thrown off all weekend, so planning ahead to see certain bands was extremely difficult. I was extremely pissed that I missed Minus The Bear on Friday because of this crap. On Saturday I ended up missing Midtown and FSF because they weren't letting people in (which has been much documented). I understand that it was the fire marshall's decision. However, security and the organizers could have handled things much better. I also missed The New Amsterdams second set because I went outside because I wasn't aware that Matt decided to play at the Vagrant tent (which is partially my fault). So Sunday, I stayed in the main stage area the whole time (because I didn't want to miss Flogging Molly, The Bouncing Souls and The Alkaline Trio) and had to sit through a bunch of bands that I don't like and who put on awful performances and ended up missing Say Anything and Days Away outside..
Top 7 Sets
7. Hidden In Plain View
6. The New Amsterdams
5. Alkaline Trio (too short, however)
4. Straylight Run
3. Hot Rod Circuit
2. Thrice
1. The Bouncing Souls
Most Disappointing
1. Say Anything
Worst Sets
3. Circa Survive
2. Underoath
1. All-American Rejects

The whole thing was run so bad it destroyed what should have been amazing.. the fact that you couldnot go into convention hall without being searched everytime was out of hand.. it was also out of hand as to how over sold the show was.. at the same time though I dont get it.. I remember looking at the floor during the show and thinking at Skate and Surf there were alot more people on the floor... I dont get it what the hell happned?? Can anyone fill me in to why bands were moved off the main stage on sunday? I left after Armor For Sleep and missed that whole mess.

i thought it was above average. friday was the most organized day because there was no rain until late at night. saturday was chaos during the night and i was in the angry mob chanting let us in and giving the police officers on the balcony our middle fingers. i saw the last song further seems forever i was honestly depressed i didn't get to see them. i would rate the whole thing a 6.5 out of 10. here are the bands i saw and how their performance was.
friday
i can make a mess - solid performance, not a lot of energy obviously because the songs are more mellow
lux courageous - awesome show. it was in a freaken bowling alley and people just sat in the bowling seats, played pool, or even bowled right next to the stage.
straylight run - sounded just like the cd, wish they made a few differences but none the less amazing
saturday
say anything - really got the crowd into it. played most popular songs (woe, belt, alive with glory) and spider song.
mae - great as usual. he has really improved his voice. i remember seeing them after destination beautiful and his voice sounded a lot different than the cd. they even played the prolouge and epilouge (not the lady voice though) just between songs
academy is - wow. i liked his sweater/shirt thing. but awesome
this day and age - very clear sounding. great live voice.
spill canvas - played a lot of new songs, but played bracelets, all hail the heartbreaker, and tide as well. all hail the heartbreaker was the best cuz everyone really got into it.
new amsterdams - great variation from the cd's. added to it a lot. funny guy, but i wasnt really into the children songs.
hot rod circuit - a lot of fun acoustic style. favorite song was the pharmacist.
straylight run - (friends of bamboozle) ACOUSTIC STYLE! amazing, rare event. john sounded perfect even though he claimed he was sick and michelle sounded pretty good. he played a new one, it was great.
further seems forever - only saw one song, heard the others kind of from outside the doors when they locked them on it. people said he forgot some lines but just hearing the songs and seeing him would have blown me away. fortunately i heard new desert life and got into it.
fall out boy - probably the best performance. so much energy, though pete used the "fucking hate everyone" line. does he always say that lately? people went nuts for them
starting line - average
sunday
hellogoodbye - tied with fall out boy for best performance because...they whipped out silly string guns and super soakers, forrest was still in his pj's and he even pulled people up on stage. it was just awesome to see. these guys have fun and its just awesome to watch.
gym class heroes- hysterical. weird facial expression when he was singing though.
waking ashland - solid. nothing special but looking forward to their cd.

A lot of the bands kept saying how much better Flipside was then Bamboozle, I was like damn, bad weather? Then I heard about the power and the organization. Bamboozle's lineup kinda dominates Flipside but Flipside had a nice little lineup going on.

I was there on friday and I was definately happy with all the sets I saw. I got to see like 3 songs of I can make a mess.... I wasnt really impressed but Im not really into them so that probably played at part. I saw some of Spitalfield they were pretty good typical Spitalfield. I watched 2 songs of TREOS. I enjoyed them not having ever really hearing much of their music before the show. I also caught a little bit of Sarcasm which I wasnt into at all. After them I headed into the Convention Hall for Blood Brothers. They were unbelievable. What a performance. I was blown away. Easily the one of the best sets of the night. I want to know how they do that every night. (Drugs? My only explination) Simply amazing. I cant wait to see them again in NYC in May. I watched Motion City Soundtrack after that and it was the first time I had ever seen them live. Great performance and lots of good new songs. ( I also like the The Academy Is... reference during one of their songs) After them I went outside to see Minus the Bear. Another amazing performance. The band is brilliant. I wish they had played more songs. The sound outside was decent and I was definately pleased with their set. Another band that I cant wait to see again. After them I went back into Convention Hall and caught like 4 songs from Straylight Run. Another band im not all into but some good songs.( I was wondering who John Nolan thinks he is when he plays keyboard..... Stevie Wonder waving his head all around.... no offense to Stevie Wonder) Overall they sounded really good. Finch was next and they played a solid set. They had good stage pressence. A side note , they closed with "What it is to Burn" and I must say it was one of the best songs performed that night. Crowd was really into it and the band played it really well.
By this time its like 11:15 or whatever and everyone was exhausted(atleast I was) but leave it up to Thrice to come through and play an awesome set. They played a lot of new songs that were a little different but really good at the sametime. I really dont think Thrice can put out a bad album and I am excited for their new album which I believe Dustin said was coming out in September. As everyone already probably knows they covered Brand New which was a great cover. They kinda killed the set with the new songs as far as the crowd getting into it.(looking back at it now it was worth it hearing the new songs) When they played old songs everyone was into it. Overall a great time. As far as how the show was run I was kinda dissappointed that the bands sets were cut short because of their was no power. You'd think that be the first thing that they'd make sure was working correctly, but whatever it worked out ok. Another little complaint was how they let people into Convention Hall. I was inside waiting to get in for a while and as people walked along the side of the line to look at lables tents people would just hop on the front of the line. Which coming from a person that waited for a while kinda pissed me off. I think a little more organization would make the show a lot better. I hope they keep this weekend going for years to come and cause I know I will try and be there everytime.
This is the Bamboozle (www.thebamboozle.com) discussion thread. I created it because I'm curious to see what people who attended it have to say about it. Best sets? Worst sets? I have been to the past two skate and surf events and this years bamboozle, and this year was by far the most poorly organized. Just a few notes on what could have been done better on Max Cruise's end since everyone else seems to have covered it. The idea of Saosin playing a show inside a Bar was a terrible idea, unless you want to have people injured. Also, alot of capacity issues would have been avoided if they had used the similar three stages within the convention center format that they used last year. Also, the map they provided had no relevance to where anything was, nor did the set times.. I for one did not know where the purevolume stage was located for the first two days. Finally, skate and surf didn't move half as many bands around as Bamboozle did, for instance, I went to see Bayside on Sunday and they had played an hour and a half earlier than their set time with no warning, and also they took two bands that were in the convention center (bouncing souls, and Flogging Molly) and moved them outside with their set times lining up directly with Alkaline Trio and MCR. It kinda sucked when you paid to see all four of them and then were forced to choose 2 to see, knowing full well that after Saturdays problems it would be pretty tough to get back into the convention hall once you left.
The bands however were all as good if not better than past years. Both of Say Anything's sets were really really good, and The Academy Is put on probably my favorite set of the weekend, also Straylight's acoustic set sounded incredible. I thought that the first two days lacked a real amazing headliner, Starting line was really good (even though kenny has taken a strange liking to F bombs) and Thrice's set was absolutely amazing, but I didn't really think either band is a headlining band for a festival like that, The convention center wasn't even packed for either band. Overall I'd give Bamboozle a 7 and say it was worth my money no matter how hard Max Cruise tried to not make it so.
P.S.- Anyone who stayed in the Berkeley, Was it as crazy as last year? I couldn't get a room in there because of the whole skate and surf/ bamboozle mishap as well as me not knowing my finals schedule yet.

Max gay should just stop this whole thing and bow down to Concerts East who did this much better for a number of years with Skate and Surf.. so is Skate and Surf 100% done for?
The festival was ok. The weather sucked. Max Cruise seemed really disorganized. Friday started an hour or two late, I heard it was because they were missing some permits. Security to get in to convention hall the first two days was ridiculous. It took people over an hour because they had security placed inside the acrcade area instead of outside the main doors. Sunday's schedule was ridiculous, I can't even describe it. All i know is the made and street stages combined and then the bouncing souls and flogging molly got sent to the street stages. Anyway, what music I caught when not selling merch, was great. Thrice and Finch played amazing sets friday night. People responded really well to Finch's new material and people went apeshit for Thrice. Thrice played Brand New's The Quiet Things That No One Ever Knows which was probably the highlight of their set. Although I would have much rather heard them play a different song, they played it perfectly. Motion City Soundtrack also did a great job. Saturday, Over It played outside when it wasn't raining, which was nice because these guys were amazing. They played all new songs except for Wrong Way. The original Further Seems Forever reunion was way overhyped, but it was still something worth seeing. They played the whole Moon is Down record and sounded pretty good for not playing together for a few years. They sounded like they had intentions to play together again which means those of you who missed it might get another chance to see it. As much as I don't like Senses Fail, they are great performers and I'll give them credit, they put on a good show. Fall Out Boy sounded horrible in my opinion, I've seen them a good 10 times and this was probably the worst I've heard them. Alkaline Trio played new songs and killed it. The Bouncing Souls are always amazing and Sunday was no different. They played a Bruce Sprinstein cover and Max Weinberg played drums with them. Overall, the Bamboozle would have been amazing if the weather was better and Max Cruise was a little more organized....and if the hotel security at the Berkeley Carteret wouldn't have been strict this year about partying. I give it a 6

I had a good time.
7.5
P.S.- Anyone who stayed in the Berkeley, Was it as crazy as last year? I couldn't get a room in there because of the whole skate and surf/ bamboozle mishap as well as me not knowing my finals schedule yet.
Nope, it sucked this year, security was on every floor. Couldn't have your door open. We managed to bribe the securty on the 6th floor by giving them beer though, which made Saturday night alright. I heard they had $70,000 in damage last year so they were prepared this year.
i went to friday and sunday, i'll just assume that everyone said how bad max cruise is and it's the truth. However i love the fact that the bouncing souls got moved to an outside stage cause they were the best set of the weekend. Loved ones, the explosion and thrice were all pretty good. New All American Rejects were ok and Armor for Sleep was a dissapointment.
Overall, i'd say like a 3/10
HIT THE LIGHTS
was the best band that played. fallout boy should have played the stone pony while hit the lights showed kids who a band with that sound can really play!!
Alk Trio--IVE GOT A BIG FAT FUCKING BONE TO PICK...3000 kids screamin it--sick!!
Punchline-those dudes are Hilarious...
Plain White Ts/Melee-should be bigger than Jimmy Eat World
if everything ran on time, it didnt rain, and all the kids makeup didnt run and their girls hair got all frizzy, then no one would be complaining???? the hotel wasnt rowdy. It was kinda nice...go to the ASCAP room to party next year...free booze.
i think it was more organized IF!!!!!!!!!! it hadnt rained. everything was more structured and you knew going in you werent going to see all the bands you wanted to if you didnt plan it out. The firemarshall only let certain numbers in at a time.
did anyone see underoath?? it was PACKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !
stop fucking complaining...half of you finally got out of your moms minivans anyways...are you gonna complain about warped tour too?

So heres the breakdown
Extemely Disorganized
Set times always screwed up, and nobody was informed what was going on, i.e. i saw acceptance by chance, even though i thought they were supposed to play later, so if i would have went to the right time i would have been out of luck
People crying because they couldnt see Further seems forever. I mean, if you werent in there for senses fail then you were out of luck, and how could anyone plan that, just rediculous.
However, ppl cowdsurfing in the line to get in was sweet
Waking ashland not playing hands on deck because their set got short, but then a 45 minute wait until the next band played
a cover charge to get into club jimi despite the 105 i had already paide
Napolean Dynamite introducing Midtown!
Waiting in line to buy merch
Pretty much paying 105 so that i could see half of what i should have seen if the schedule had actually been right
I can make a mess played just as doors open, so if you were in the back of the line then you were screwed
Madison was incredible, they should sign to drive thru!!!!
Track record really good, their drummer is talent like all get out
The security did a really good job, they kept their cool usually and tried to make kids enjoy the festival
BOTTOM LINE:
MAx Cruise things need to change A LOT next year. It was a lot to plan, but it was poorly done. Kids were very excited to come to this thing only to face obstacles everywhere. We had to pay and then decipher schedules to find when bands were playing.
Next year there should be some sort of electronic board in convention hall that can be updated and that will help everyone immensley and alleviate many of the problems
AND, most importatnly, max cruise should do something special to make up for everything that went on this year. Cheaper tickets or something great...im not sure a special guest will cut it b/c of the sweet special guests this year. We need to be shown that theres a reason to come back
thanks
my 4th year of this, and it was BY FAR the worst. I'd say 98% of that was how the concert was run, and 2% was the shitty weather.
I wish Further Seems Forever hadn't been before fall out boy and the starting line. I know a lot of people taking up space in there didn't care about fsf. The turnout for fsf was also much larger than either fob or the starting line. i basically came down for fsf, i had seen just about every other band multiple times.
one of the high point was definitely saosin. they just blew my mind. i'm not sure i've ever seen such a small group of kids (small because of the venue, not because that was all they drew) go so nuts. i'm not talking hatebreed nuts, just "i love the fuck out of this band" nuts.
and to whoever said secutiry was tightened at the berkeley.... my friend said they had the beer slip and sides again this year, so it must not have been too tight.

i want to know what people thought of kevin devine.
I had never listened to him (outside of Miracle of 86) but my girlfriend likes him, so I decided to go along with her. I was so blown away by his, well their, set. I was in awe the entire time. Having never heard a song of his, he was still most definitely in my top 5 (out of well over 30) of the weekend.

I am from the West Coast and something like this organizational crap would NEVER happen here!
Anyways:
FRIDAY was pretty good except for the delay in starting
-Thrice's cover of The Quiet things owned the night!
-Acceptance is going to be huge (GO SEATTLE)
Saturday was the main reason I went to this festival:
-Even worse organization. Started late again and somehow caught up on the times for the main stage.
-I didnt mind the rain it was kinda cool actually
1) Say Anything was pretty good. I don't know many of their songs word for word so it wasnt the best for me
2) Mae was incredible eventhough I didn't know many of the words for them either
3) The Academy Is: Probably the second best performance. Huge crowd for them, only got to play 25 minutes but they got 6 songs in ....and I freaking love William's stage presence
4) This Day and Age: They are a very good band....one eleven records has put out a lot of good bands recently.....
5) The Spill Canvas: They are always good...Definitley different live because most of the old CD was acoustic
6) Chronic future: I did not know anything about them but they were freaking cool
7) Copeland: Very good band live..they were good
8) Standing in Line: GOOD LORD we were at the convention hall line at 745 because we thought it would still be an hour behind but I missed senses fail and further seems forever because they were so packed and unorganized
9) Fall Out Boy: What can anyone else say ...they rule..best performance I saw they will be absolutely huge
10) TSL: Good but I have seen better from them. I like most of the new stuff live so that is a plus

the bands and all were good. it was way to unorganized. skate and surf i got to see about 10-12 bands a day bamboozle i saw about 12 total all weekend (the times were all whacked and there was to many stages) skate and surf sucked because it was to over crowded and the lines took forever.Bamboozle i could have not payed and got in because they didnt check my braclet once (under my hoodie sleeve the whole time). They also werent letting people into the main stage making you wait forever and then you would get inside and the floor wasnt even half filled. It was a good time just i missed alot of bands i wanted to see because of times and lines etc. It deff wasnt worth the money. I give it a 6

I live 20 minutes away from Abury Park, so I've experienced four years of Surf and Skate prior to the Bamboozle. Surf and Skate always had a decent amout of good bands, and was always alot of fun. Then the Bamboozle comes along, brininging with them every band ever. Really, I think the Bamboozle was too good to be true. It was trying to be too big, and in the end, was a big clusterfuck. I mean, I still had a good time, being able to see Motion City Soundtrack, Straylight Run, and Thrice. But I didn't go to see these bands, I went mainly to see Acceptance and Anberlin, and when the scdules got messed up, I was screwed. Thats the reason the Bamboozle was a letdown. Max Cruise needs to get their shit together if they want bands and fans to come to this again next year. I say bring back Surf and Skate.
P.S. Maybe it's just me, but for the life of me, I cannot understand how people can actually listen to the Blood Brothers. I mean live, they were decent, just because they are so fucked up. But I've been to dozens of shows, and I just found myself shaking my head, wondering how you could sit back, relax, and listen to noise with high pitched screams.

i went friday and saturday and i would give it a 9.5! i loved it. i had a great time both days even if it was raining on saturday. the merch was cheep, band members were everywhere and they all played great sets. however on friday they opened doors about 2 hours after they were supposed too and that sucked. Also friday once you snuck your camara in you could take pictures but on saturday the security guards at the barriers would yell at you and tell you to put in away. THAT put me in an awful mood. If it wasnt for that i would give it a perfect 10! The tickets werent expensive and worth the money. Also MANY bands did signings and i like that they were suprises and not announced. I got to see every band i wanted too. However at times there were HUGE lines outside of convention hall waiting to get in, me and my friend chose carefully when to leave and go back in so we would not miss our favorite bands. Ovboulsy we did not leave when there was a huge line waiting to get in the door. also ive never been to skate and surf so im just judging from this year.

Its not really one of those things you can explain, you either love em or hate em...I personally love them.

okay. dont hate me please. But, i agree it was way unorganized. but it was also the first year that MAX CRUISE did the show. Last year and the year before that and blah...was ANOTHER PROMOTER. But, everyone's first festival/show/etc is a disaster. It happens. They will take all the mistakes made this year and fix them for the next time. To be completely honest, do you think the first skate and surf...or the very first warped tour...went entirely smoothly??
with that said, there were many things that needed to be changed. the weather on saturday fucked up the purevolume/hot topic stages. Saosin and The Bled were supposed to be playing outdoors but because of the weather they were forced inside the Stone Pony. The fire marshal almost shut the show down, and forced everyone to behave for saosin's set...emptied the club before the bled, and then let kids back in. But, that wasn't supposed to be inside.
the bands for the most part were good. the lineup was great but there definitely was some conflicts. But, i got to see friends from all over the country in the same spot and that made it worthwhile for me. I'm exhausted today, but in all it was a decent time.
I give it a 7/8.

The bands that played it were great. Best sets had to be Saosin, Gatsbys, The Receiving End of Sirens, Thrice, Circa Survive, and My Chemical Romacne (Didn't get to see Saturdays closers, I got locked out.) Though there were other great sets, I enjoyed those the most. Worst sets...Spitafield, All American Rejects, and I didn't really enjoy Alkaline Trio too much either.
It was very unorganzined. Saturday was a disgrace when a ton of fans got locked out from Midtown all the way through The Starting Line, which sucks because that is what we all paid for, since everything else was free. They over sold it, the number of people was crazy. Set times were never accurate, there was a power failure the first day which made it delayed 2 and a half hours. Skate and Surf ran things smoother, while not perfect, but it was still better than this.
so the bands that played get a 10/10.
the bamboozle staff gets a 4/10

there were some pros and cons of the event.
pros: so many bands, like 160 of them. not all of them are good of course but a lot of them were- who knew i would get to see saosin and the bled play out on the lawn sat nite? that was the shit, kind of like a big fuck you to the convention hall behind them that shut us out of further seems forever.
cons: where do we start...incorrect and changing set times is a great way to make the entire experience worthless. i caught most of the bands i wanted to see, but it was annoying to have to leave the bled to go see gatsby's american dream when the schedule said i wouldn't have to...fire marshal limits at venues. i am so pissed off about missing further seems forever that i could go on a tirade, but thats not necessary. so many kids got shut out of saosin, who had their power cut on them because they wanted the kids in front to move away from the stage. after their set, they kicked us all out and made everyone wait outside while the marshal reevaluated the place, supposedly. further seems forever is just ridiculous because people paid to see that, and they were not able to get what they paid for. max cruise can screw himself, he tells us we can screw ourselves...
i rate the experience a 4, only because of all the good music that actually was there.

I missed him due to time changes...pissed me off. I wanted to see him so badly.
I apprecate your input but, High School Football Heroes? They are one terrible ska band. Sloppy, Uncreative with horns, Every song sounds the same, not nearly as good as other ska bands out there. Though I see you are from Babylon so you might know them personally so that would explain the pitch. Either way your opinion is yours and entitled but I just find this band to be extremely Over-rated.

Alright, the bashing of Max Cruise needs to be calmed down for a handful of reasons. First of all, I realize that Skate & Surf set a precedent for Asbury Park festivals and that Bamboozle essentially replaced it; however, this is the FIRST time Max Cruise ran the festival, therefore it's gotta be understood that they're going to hit roadblocks and speedbumps along the way. That being said, I do agree that the delays on Friday were absolutely ridiculous and unnecessary and they dropped the ball on that one. Again, though, some credit is due for avoiding the assanine process of receiving your wristband and entering Convention Hall that plagued SnS last year. The weather also hurt and forced their hand on some things. It's April at the shore, the weather is unpredictable. Also, and most importantly, none of these problems should have had any impact on your weekend. I realize that tons of people got shut out of FsF, but if it was really your dream to see Chris with the band, well, you were well aware by the 2nd day that the room was going to be shut down if they reached capacity. Plan ahead (or cut the line), I didn't suffer any major disappointments this weekend in terms of seeing or missing sets. Anyway, here's my review of the weekend:
FRIDAY
By far the worst day of the weekend - thanks to both the delays and the thin lineup relative to Saturday and Sunday - we just hung out at the main stage for the most part since we were unsure of exactly how smooth everything was going to run at this point. Finally got into the main stage as I Can Make a Mess was starting and sat through a mediocre Relient K set until Blood Brothers really got the night rolling. Motion City Soundtrack was even better than expected and put on one of the best sets of the weekend before Straylight Run did its best to put everyone to sleep (I'm sorry, there's no passion left in the demos and the rest of the album isn't anything special) and finally relaxed in the seats to suffer through Finch. I won't even get started on them. Finally, Thrice was absolutely amazing. Period. With the cover of "Quiet Things" thrown on top for good measure. Easily one of the best five sets of the weekend.
SATURDAY
We got to Asbury real early to make sure we got in to see Say Anything's set in its entirety, which was, of course, awesome. I can't get into Mae, but nothing else was really going on so we stayed through their set before heading to the Stone Pony for Emanuel. Hung out there, in the dryness and warmth for a bit seeing Pistolita and Bedlight for Blue Eyes before heading to Bradley Park to catch the end of Spill Canvas and wait for Moneen. Kenny and the rest of Moneen were great and had tons of energy as always, but as was a theme for the entire weekend for the most part, so many 14 and 15 year olds, and some older unfortunately, don't know how to appreciate music and have to make enjoying bands a chore for others. We went back inside, caught the end of Early November, saw Jim Breuer (who was NOT funny at all) and Napolean Dynomite, before Midtown and Senses Fail brought out the worst fans in the world for a couple hours. If you crowdsurf over me, protect your wallet and tie your shoes tight cause I'm after them. And if you feel a swift punch in the ribs, that's because you just kicked me in the head. Also, to the one plus-sized kid who tried to leap into the crowd and was greeted with a fist in the chest... yea, that was me. Oh yea, Senses Fail is terrible anyway. Moving on, that finally brought us to Further Seems Forever and the highlight of the weekend. If you couldn't appreciate that, you're either in high school or have no concept of life. Dead tired and knowing FSF couldnt be topped, we watched Fall Out Boy and Starting Line from above. Pretty good overall, with some new songs thrown in, and Max Bemis joining Kenny on stage for one of their new songs.
SUNDAY
Knowing how things worked now, we got to Asbury Park a little later and just cut the line at Convention Hall. This was before we realized Hellogoodbye's set-time had changed so we left and had to deal with the schedule changes. Poor us. It really wasn't that big of a deal, they had to combine stages for reasons beyond their control and posted the new schedule on each stage as soon as they had it figured out. Not bad for having to rework an entire day on the fly. So we saw POW, Scatter the Ashes, Ley Royal Scam, Ben Nichols, Gym Class Heroes, and Days Away before Say Anything's second set of the weekend (better than Saturday's definitely b/c of the atmosphere) and then went inside to find the AAR still playing. There was literally a family with three little girls, we're talking 7 years old, next to us which was interesting. Underoath put on an AMAZING show and Circa Survive was disappointing. The biggest disappointment, however, wasn't that Flogging Molly and Bouncing Souls were moved outside, but that Alkaline Trio's set got cut ridiculously short. It was damn good while it lasted though. Finally, My Chemical Romance was a BIG disappointment, and in my opinion, a poor choice to wrap up the festival. I'm sure they made the zombie nation of 10th graders with white faces and red eye makeup happy, but they didn't play "Vampires," which was "what MCR is as a band," said Gerard one time I saw them, and the song that they "would always close with." Also, someone needs to tell Gerard that NJ pride and unwarranted expletives (hey, I love them both also) are all well and good, but he takes them way to far.
That's all. It was a 7 out of 10.

I thought this was pretty good, I would give it an 8.5
For the price of $90, it certainly was not bad. That is $30 per day to see tons of awesome bands, and I usually pay $10-20 to see a show where I like 1-3 bands, so $30 for 8-10 hours of music all by bands that I like and know was a pretty awesome deal for me.
There was certainly some disorganization, and I guess Skate and Surf was better in some ways last year because you could go in between all of the stages in the convention hall, but someone said that would have been better for FSF, but that is definitely not true, I think it would have been worse. Last year the crowd for the main stage poured out into the center area of the convention hall, and you couldn't even move around at all, the whole thing was one giant crowd. I think I missed more bands last year than this one, it really wasn't that bad.
I got to see FSF and I thought it was a great time. I figured there would be a ton of people wanting to see them so I went in like 2-3 hours early just to make sure. I was in line for the entire Midtown set which kind of saddened me, but I got in right at the beginning of Sensesfail, so I had plenty of time. It did get pretty crazy though in line, people were crowd surfing to the front and rushing the doors every once and awhile. Some people said they went just to see them and missed it, but I don't understand why you wouldn't get there early for something that big.
My favorite sets were Say Anything, Motion City Soundtrack, Alkaline Trio, My Chemical Romance, Hellogoodbye, Hot Rod Circuit, FSF, Finch, Fall Out Boy, The Academy Is, and Circa Survive.
The audio for Circa Survive and Underoath weren't that great, but I still enjoyed them. I also wish Relient K got to play more than 4 songs. Oh well.
In summary, it was very disorganized, and I think I would prefer to have it go back to Skate and Surf in the future, but I still had a great time. Sure people missed bands because of the disorganization, but you can't expect 6 stages to always stay synchronized anyway. I missed some bands I planned on seeing, but got to see some I didn't think I could originally. I definitely am glad I went, and plan on going to whatever happens next year.

I saw way too many fucking young newbs with Revenge hoodies and pink eye makeup. It made me sick to my stomach.
i want to know what people thought of kevin devine.
I can tell you what I think of Kevin Devine. I didn't go to bamboozle but I've seen Kevin Devine twice. Last year at Skate and Surf and at a Christmas local show at the Docks in Staten Island. I think he's a fucking genius, close to being god-like almost like how Say Anything's Max is lol. He puts on a hell of a set. Could help you feel better in from any mood your feeling or can make you feel really sad. The second one happens so much more haha. I wish Kevin released more frequent music and toured more frequently. I think Kevin Devine jesse lacey and john nolan should do a side project. That would be dope. Ok let me stop. I'm letting out too many hidden emo feelings.

wow. this weekend has been so interesting. so many ups and downs for myself, flying to NYC from sacramento, ca, then traveling bumstyle to asbury park, nj for the bamboozle. im sorry to say THE REASON we came was for this once-in-a-lifetime FSF set did not exactly occur for myself and my bass player eric =[ we waited over an hr in line to return into the convention center (we were in it only 3 hrs prior for mae/silverstein/rufio), but never got in!!! they told everyone they were at max capacity, and were only letting in a few people as some people left the room. so many people were near-rioting, with much swearing, yelling, threats, and sadness. it was nice to meet others as hardcore for FSF as me; the TMID really changed their lives as well as mine. in the middle of 'Monachetti' eric texts me saying to go out to the left boardwalk, where he was leaning from construction rafters to barely see the right side of the stage. i joined him and we were able to see into the side door (where bands came and left freely with annoying groupies) where josh was playing, and chris would occasionally appear. this was hundreds of feet away, and i didnt have my glasses (stolen in a backpack) nor my contacts (irritating my eyes lately), so it was somewhat of a blur. BUT i did hear the rest of the set (madison prep through a new desert life) and it was dead on pretty much. chris sang so well and the reunion lineup of FSF played wonderfully. chris sang all high notes and was nearly 100% on key. i could barely see any crowd detail, but the applause was great after each song and the hands in the air could be seen, especially in the uptempo songs (pictures of shorelines and wearing thin). i talked with steve before and after the set (stupid me didnt request to come on stage to watch beforehand), and he said they practiced a week w/o chris and only twice total with chris this whole year, which was impressive. he had a great time and was sorry we didnt get in. i was not able to meet theother guys in FSF, which i really wanted to meet. chad is always fun to talk with, and i will probably never be able to meet nick nor josh again::: sigh, theres so much more to say about other aspects of my weekend, like having no plans for a place to stay each day, shacking up in a ghetto motel in manhattan, and the ghost town that is asbury park. it will be in detail on my xanga soon, with most of my 120+ pics from my first trip to the east coast. im glad i heard the set, but so sad about missing being in the crowd:::

Max Cruise tried to match the success of Skate and Surf and it was terrible. I mean I enjoyed a lot of bands. But they totally didn't run this fest good at all. the stages were soooooo far from one another, people spent $100 to stand on a line all day in hope of getting in to the main room missing tons of bands, they didn't even have a permit to have the stage in the park the first day and that held up the fest for a good 3 hours. I mean bands were getting screwed over with times for Max Cruises lack of control on their fest. You can tell this fest was all about money, I mean they over sold convention hall, made bands sell tickets for 3 day passes to get on the fest but didn't tell people until the day of the fest those tickets for were for everywhere but he convention hall, bands that played the wonder bar on Saturday didn't have a crowds due to the fact that they were charging money to get in to there even if you had a ticket. They should never be allowed to run a fest again bring back Skate and Surf kill Bamboozle. Honestly what made the fest enjoyable was a few bands and the parties at the hotel.. which I may add 541 was the room to be the bank robbers/no milk records room... so much fun all weekend
Bands i watched and enjoyed-
-Emanual(both of their sets were great), Further Seems Forever, Fall Out Boy, Finch, Thrice, The Bled, Say Anything, Copeland, My Chemical Romance, Underoath, Embrace Today, The Chariot, Action Action, Hellogoodbye
Bands i wish played the fest-
Gratitude, Movielife reuinon, Glassjaw, NFG, Brand New, The Bank Robbers, Dead Poetic, Thursday, Self Aginst City, Death By Stereo, Tourmaline( i know they played but on a better stage and not the same time as FSF)

concertseast ran skate and surf and never had any problems, even the first year the festival started. i feel bad for the kids who paid all that money and missed so many sets.
pros:
kevin devine. alkaline trio, further seems forever, bouncing souls
cons:
about 100 bands that all sounded the same, very little diversity,
bouncing souls also played a "secret" show sat. night at the asbury lanes and again sunday night outside convention hall for free, best band

i have a question..
was anyone at the very first skate and surf? the very first year they put it on? because i would like to know if it was more organized, less organized, or about the same as this first year for bamboozle.. (if anyone can even remember that far back).
what everyone needs to understand is that you can't compare a festival like this that is in its first year being completely run by a new promoter, to a festival that had been going on for several years by the same promoter. once you've been doing the same job for so many years, you sort of slide into a groove, and the things that were once problems and disorganized become more organized and each year there aren't as many problems. yes max cruise had been working with concerts east in the past, but this year they weren't, and did not have the head people running everything for them as in past years. yes i agree it was not the most organized event, especially compared to last years skate and surf.
and a lot of the things that people were complaining about (i.e. the weather, the fire marshall, etc.) were not within the control of max cruise. and to be honest, i remember the weather being worse last year, there were still problems with the fire marshall, and that was after concerts east had been doing this for how many years?
the point i'm trying to make is, even after doing this for years there are still going to be problems.. its inevitable, and most likely they are going to be things that are not even within your control. but seeing as this was the very first year for max cruise completely running it on their own.. you can't expect it to have run totally smooth.
if you really want to be productive, instead of bitching about how much you hated this festival and demanding a refund (which you're probably not going to get anyway), why don't you write a message (either on here or through email to max cruise) and calmy and tactfully explain your frustrations, and then come up with some suggestions you might have to make it better for next year. i've already seen some really good ones on here (moving the main stage into a more open area, having bullhorns to let people in line know whats going on, etc.). they know the fest was disorganized, and they are obviously going to be looking for ways to improve for next year if they do this again.. so let them know!

The first Skate and Surf wasn't as well known, there weren't as many people there than the 3rd and 4th years of it (even the second year didn't have a TON of people), so it ran smoother than the Bamboozle's first year. They did have some problems, but nothing major.

whosever idea it was to put saosin at the stone pony is really smart, the line went around the block to get in, i went over a half hour early so i would get in and i didnt get in. later on i found out they stopped halfway through their set because it was dangerous. later they put them on at one of the utside stages without any notice. bamboozle was very unorganized, it was too big and too spread out. security was way too uptight about alot of shit. i went saturday and sunday and they still didnt fix alot of problems by the third day. skate and surf was alot better in comparison. at a certain point they didnt let anymore kids into convention hall saying that its at capacity, total bullshit, its nearly impossible to fill up convention hall. i give it a 5

i was there the first year and there were no problems that I can remember. none of the switching bands from stage to stage bullshit. i'm just happy i had an all access pass, otherwise i would have been pissed not being able to see so many bands. yeah i agree it was max cruise's first year running it and to cut em some slack, but c'mon simple things like not getting enough power from the city and not planning things ahead of time with the fire marshall is just plain idiotic.

Not only are these guys my best friends and have I played in bands with them I enjoy them. I think that unlike the other over rated Long Island ska bands these guys are actually talented and not just 100 people on stage making noise. None the less, they asked for my opinion about who I enjoyed and I enjoyed them. I didn't get to see Suburban Legends or anyone else so I can say that I enjoyed them most.
And I see you have that dumb Your The Man Now Dog page in your profile so more than likely your an old OSB board kid and I honestly don't care what you have to think.

yeah i had an all access pass too so i can't completely understand what everyone else was dealing with, although the security and the lines looked like a pain in the ass.
the power thing was a little silly, that could have been taken care of ahead of time. the thing with the fire marshall though.. i know that max cruise had been working with the city a lot and i thought that included the fire marshall. what i do know is that the fire marshall shut down the main stage area to everyone (including those with all access passes like myself) for most of further's set.. and i'm sure max cruise would have liked to let more people in (because when i got in, more people definitely would have fit), but you can't really go against the fire marshall's orders. otherwise they would have shut down the entire festival, pissing even more people off.
i would like to see them try and do it again next year, because i think the people at max cruise are good guys, they were just a little overwhelmed this year since it was their first, which led to all the disorganization.. i think if they were to try this again next year it would go a lot more smoothly, knowing what they know now.

Bands i wish played the fest-
Gratitude, Movielife reuinon, Glassjaw, NFG, Brand New, The Bank Robbers, Dead Poetic, Thursday, Self Aginst City, Death By Stereo, Tourmaline( i know they played but on a better stage and not the same time as FSF)
haha the bank robbers are pretty terrible

If you crowdsurf over me, protect your wallet and tie your shoes tight cause I'm after them. And if you feel a swift punch in the ribs, that's because you just kicked me in the head. Also, to the one plus-sized kid who tried to leap into the crowd and was greeted with a fist in the chest... yea, that was me.
Sucker punching paeople at a concert eh? HERO! Crowdsurfing is a fact of life knob. If you want to stand with your hands in your pockets stay back. If I saw you punching people at a concert for crowdsurfing a punch to the ribs would be the least of your worries.

crowdsurfing is not a fact of life. growing old is a fact of life. crowdsurfing is what kids who are excited their mom isn't coming for 3 more hours do. Also, I do stand in the back because i got sick of dumb fucks kicking me in the head after about 10 years of going to shows. That doesn't mean i don't think it's fucking stupid.

yeah, friday they didnt even have the fucking permit for the outside stage, so all the bands played 15 minute sets
ugh, i feel bad for people that didn't see fsf...yeah, on the scale of 1-10 i'd give it about a 2 or 3 because of the fact that so many people got fucked over, also...anyone notice how HORRIBLE the security was. they were very very mean, and i was punched in the face by a security guard because i walked to the door too early, i am going to write a letter of complaint pretty soon here. pure bullshit

I had bought tickets/passes for all three days, but I was only able to go on Sunday.
(in no order)
-The schedules they handed out were VERY OUT OF DATE AND WRONG (older than the schedules on the website, which were still kind of wrong)
-The outdoor stages sounded great, the convention hall stage was terrible.
-People smoking in the convention hall can DIE.
-Gerrard should shut the fuck up. He sounded (and by all I have heard, is) like the biggest pompous asshole ever, and everyone was eating the shit he was saying up. They closed with Helena. I think Gerrard was confused because he thanked all the bands that played the main stage that day (Including Circa Survive, haha) and Midtown.
-Underoath fans can go suck their dicks, at least the ones that got pissed that Circa Survive was forced to play main stage by the promoters, who also promised Circa a second, REAL set (where their fans would actually know about it) at Stone Pony. According to the bassist, when they showed up at the Stone Pony, they got 'What? You guys played already." and were not allowed their promised second set.
-My cousin was there when the Circa Survive switcharoo went down and ALOT OF PEOPLE did not realize anything was going on, noone knows what underoath looks like apparently.
-Anthony Green, and much of Circa Survive was watching Days Away's set, which was good. Anthony was singing along, it was amusing. (He still isn't getting recognized, he usually has a hoodie with the hood up though)
-My cousin was talking to the bassist of Circa Survive during Say Anythings set (EXCELLENT) and the bassist didn't know who they were....(they are touring together in a few months)
-Hellogoodbye was much better than I could have expected. Their energy, sense of humor, all of it. It was just a nice lighthearted change of pace.
-Gym class Heroes were alright, but...it was basically the same set I saw at the FBR tour, Travis said/did the same things basically.
-Not a specific fan, but Boys Night Out was very very good.
-I had a sneaking suspicion that Flogging Molly was intended to be outside. When I first saw they were playing inside, I was disgusted. I think the promoters decided (unwisely) to make it an unannounced free set, because an announced free flogging molly set is a scary concept. The singer of FM said they were told they were 'too rowdy' to be inside. They were good as always.
-I'm not sure what lead to Circa Survive being put on the main stage but it was pretty rediculous.
-Security was spotty/dumb with the NO CAMERAS stuff in the convention center. I got in there without them saying a thing about my camera, then when I went for merch I just told the guy 'im just going for merch', and he let me in, and then I smuggled the batteries in my friends shoe for the third time. The advent of cell phone cameras should mean that CAMERAS SHOULD BE ALLOWED IN VENUES. Just my two cents.
-The hot dog guy by the made/street stage (by the street) kicked ass.
-During the Circa Survive set, a girl pushed ahead of me and others and this other girl started a fight with her. First girl punched her in the head. First girl got crowd surfed to the front AGAINST HER WILL. Applause followed.
All in all, I think this day had a weakish lineup, and it didn't help either that many bands got screwed over by schedule changes. (Bouncing Souls, Circa Survive, Boys Night Out to name a few)
I enjoyed myself, but would never go to just one day ever again.
Best Sets: Hellogoodbye, Say Anything, Boys Night Out, Circa Survive (even though it sounded like garbage and noone was into them, it was the stage/promoters fault) Flogging Molly
WTF: Van Stone (2 in the pink, 1 in the stink; giant penis)
Whatever is going down at Asbury next year, I am going. I fell in love with the area. I will put up with disorganized shit for that.

I'd give this a 3 out of 10 ONLY bcuz of the amazing bands playing each day.
I knew it was gonna be messy, since Max Cruise is known for their nonchalant attitudes, and poor work like changing set times on bands as the show starts, or not even telling a band the show is cancelled.
I'll break it down by day.
FRIDAY-we got their nice and early bcuz I knew there would be a line no matter what. They started wristbanding early and we got ours quickly. GOOD SIGN. Well shit was about to fall apart. Walking around stages were not where the "map" had them. We figured it out quickly which stage was what. Welllllllll it just so happened there was a problem where there was NO power going to the two outside stages(made, and street stages). So it took them hours before they finally got it going, but that limited each band to just 15 minute sets. TREOS was awesome as they ALWAYS are, only got to play 3 songs though. Spitalfield was good. Most bands were good. So the end of the night was coming and I went in to go see Thrice at the very end. I got right up to the doorway and they said no more people are getting in tonight. Order of the fire marshall. People were practically in tears not being able to get in, and paying so much money for 3 day passes. I know I was ridiculously angry. Well I vowed for this not to happen to me again as I left missing Thrices set.
SATURDAY-We get there and wristbanding today start on schedule, and it moves quickly again. We go to the Hot Topic stage which was closed. They blended the Hot Topic stage and Purvolume stage inside the Stone Pony. Also I have no clue where some of the bands moved too(MY AMERICAN HEART...WHO I MISSED). I went inside right away and saw Say Anything, who got the crowd rocking. Mae was next and I LOVE them, but they are just boring live, and the crowd was dead. Hit the Lights put on a great performance inside the Stone Pony. The Academy Is... was pretty good. Emanuel was good, and seemed to be into their music today(I read the posts about them not being into what they were playing), then bcuz I was scared of last night happening again I ran inside for the rest of the day. I got in for HIPV and set times were about an hour off. So that screws up everything for everyone. I didnt leave the main stage until the middle of TSL's set. FSF was seriously amazing, and Im thankful I got to see it. I peeked out at all the people waiting outside and it made me sad...so many people paid money just for that only to be screwed over by Max Cruise. They used the capacity excuse, but I find that wrong and just an excuse to make more money. They should only sell enough tickets so that everyone can see the main bands, especially bcuz all the other stages end before the main stage.
SUNDAY-this appeared to be the smoothest day so far. So Underoath is about to come on and they announce Circa Survive is playing main stage. Thats cool cuz I like them, but did everyone else know? NO. They were dissapointing bcuz I saw them in Philly for the cd release show with TREOS, and I guess that setting was home and much more intimate. Definately my biggest let down for the weekend. Underoath was awesome, they rocked the place. Then I went outside for the rest of the day to see FBTMOF. I came back to see Halifax but of course their time changed and Floggy Molly was playing. So I was pissed about that, and i still have no clue what happened with Halifax. So I caught the Sleeping at the very end of the night and I must say for those few people that were there, they caught something great. SInce they were from Long Island New York they brought a bunch of friends who knew the words. It was very intimate and passionate and GREAT. My surprise set of the weekend.
OVERALL- I had a good time, but there were so many organizational flaws. I have been going to S&S for years, but if its the Bamboozle next year, I WILL NOT GO. I feel really bad for everyone who missed FSF and all I have to say is too many 10 year old kids saw them. Its a shame, a damn shame. I hope Max Cruise gets fucked over for this. I also had to miss out on a lot of bands bcuz of off set times, and being practically forced to stay in the main stage. At least I can say I still had a pretty good time. BRING BACK S&S!
i had a good time and enjoyed all the bands that played...i mean, was lucky enough to catch. they might as well have just let the bands fight to the death to see who would play what stage and at what time. and fire marshall my ass...they past few years there things have been fine, the Convention Hall has been filled up alot more than what i saw in there saturday night...with thousands of people locked out of it.
if it wasn't for the fact that i love being at Asbury Park, because there really is just something magical about that place to me...i would have hated it.
Punchline, Say Anything, Armor For Sleep, Thrice, Lux Couragous, Hot Rod Circuit, and of course, Further Seems Forever...were the bands that lived up to the money and time spent there. while bands like Straylight Run and Fall Out Boy completely let me down and made me no longer care about seeing them play, and i love them both.
but bands are hit or miss sometimes i guess you can say......festivals that have a year of planning put into them, should not be.

Security was ridiculous. I went to one of the head guys in the red shirt and I go something like this..."Excuse me, youre positive no more people..." NOOOOOOOOOOO! And he walks inside and shuts the door in my face. I understand when people are getting out of line you gotta set up and be a little rude to control them, but I went up to him cordially, and with manners, being nice and he was a dick. They were shoving people around, saying bad shit. Downright AWFUL security!

I was pissed off about the disorganization of the whole thing. Max Cruise can suck my dick. I missed FFAF and FSF thanks to their bullshit. I wanted a riot to break out when they shut the doors to the main stage. I wanted to see FSF most of all this weekend and I couldn't. I also got my nose broken during Blood Brothers thanks to some asshole who started moshing when he wasn't in the pit. Whoever punched me, I just want you to know that if there wasn't security, I would have castrated you, you stupid fuck.
And whats up with this new ***got moshing I saw. Spinning our arms with fists and kicking too? What the fuck is that? I'm from Buffalo, and I've never seen that shit before. Is that a New Jersey thing? Whatever it is, it's retarded.
I would give the festival a 5 rating because it was worth the money. If I had payed any more, I would demand a refund because of all the bullshit. Max Cruise sucks ass. The PA's outside were so much better than the Hurley Stage. It sounded like shit.
The best sets were Saosin, MCR, Thrice, Finch, and MCS. I probably would have liked FFAF and FSF, but I couldn't see them thanks to the fucks at Max Cruise. I hope they roast in the fires of hell.

Another thing I forgot to mention was the band members roaming.
I bothered the one guy from TREOS once while he was eating a hot dog and once while he was hanging up his phone.
I also saw, the singer from the Academy Is..., ANTHONY GREEN watching bands, Punchline, Chris from Underoath, THE DRUMMER OF FALL OUT BOY WALKING AROUND CONVENTION HALL's HALLWAY(people didnt even notice him, I said hi), the main singer of Spitalfield(who was also locked out of Thrice), Carl from Nora was doing merch for Trustkill on Friday, two member of the Bled and probably a few others I dont remember.
this event was horribly organized. fact. enough of that. i had a good time watching the bands i wanted to see. i saw most of who i wanted to see, by extreme luck and persistence. sorry to those were less fortunate as i. so those who made the most of the situation like me, what were your favorite moments? here's mine in no order:
-senses fail - buried a lie
-a static lullabye- the everlasting gaze (smashing pumpkins cover)
-girl trying to fight me during straylight run bc she wanted to mosh...TO STRAYLIGHT RUN!!!
-further seems forever's entire set especially monachetti <what does that word mean?
-midtown played a hell of a show and i don't even know them, but it was a lot of fun
-jim fucking breuer (he wasn't that funny, but he was there)
-fallout boy - saturday
-early november - every night's another story
-starting line - ready (max came out and sang his backup lines)
-hidden in plain view - garden statement (i fucking love that song)
i wish i would have stayed to see thrice playing the quiet things but i wanted to go see anberlin
and does anyone else agree with me when i say that the sound sucked in the convention hall. it was awful, i heard better quality at the stone pony, it really pissed me off.
one more thing, i snuck in my sony cybershot and got some videos of TEN, FOB, TSL, and FSF. including the entire performance of every night's another story and just some clips of other stuff. the quality is real shistey but you can hear and see it for the most part.

Anthony Green walks around unnoticed all the time.
He was watching Days Away's set along with the rest of Circa. My cousin and I just randomly bumped into him and were like HEY.
Say Anything was hanging around the Hot Topic stage, and walking out after MCR I saw them sitting in the seats. Noone was really bothering them...haha.
And I find it funny that the singer of Spitalfield was locked out of Thrice.

bamboozle - 3/10

berkeley - 10/10... i have random pictures with someone in a winnie the pooh suit. the security at the front were the only people that cared about anything so once you got in you were pretty much fine.
basically... if its gonna be set up as ridiculous next year, im just paying for a hotel and catching the outside bands for free

BUT in response to security. I forgot to add that there was tooooooooo many girls at this show. I couldnt see a dam band without a girl screaming in my ear to her friend about the 1 and only band they were there to see. Really annoying. I dont mind girls at shows at all. Most of the time its not bad but the amount of girls at this show was far far more than needed. One plus side to this was that I saw the most kick ass cat fight ever. DID ANY ONE ELSE SEE THE GIRL FIGHT DURING THE BLOOD BROTHERS SET? This fight was up there with the fight when i was in high school which lead to a girls head bleeding and her weave left on the cafeteria floor. It all started from 3 girls acting like fucking idiots during the blood brothers set dancing around having no consideration for other people. I understand that at shows people move around and people are getting pushed around. This particular incident was totally different. Whatever with my point of view..... the fight was awesome and if I was girl I would have pulled that girls hair too. Mad props to that girl. I wish her boyfriend had let it go further although she was getting her ass kicked by 3 other girls.

Okay -- I haven't read every single comment but I have read numerous comments that this is Max Cruise's first time running this festival. And I assume you meant Bamboozle.
But you do all realize that Max Cruise ran Skate and Surf last year correct? That it was a joint effort with Concertseast?
That said, I give:
Max Cruise a 2/10.
The bands a 8/10, 9/10, 9/10 (Friday/Saturday/Sunday). (The good sets I saw included Blood Brothers, Motion City Soundtrack -- day 1, Straylight Run -- day 1, Motion City Soundtrack -- day 2, Number One Fan, The Academy Is, The Fight, This Day & Age, New Amsterdams, Hot Rod Circuit, All American Rejects, Bayside, Mike Park, Halifax, Flogging Molly, Bouncing Souls, The Explosion, My Chemical Romance, Throw Rag. The uninspiring -- but not necessarily bad -- sets I saw were Relient K, Mae and Street Dogs.)
Bamboozle overall a 3.5/10.
The performances, in order for me were:
22. Mae
21. Street Dogs
20. Relient K
19. Halifax
18. The Explosion
17. Blood Brothers
16. My Chemical Romance
15. Bouncing Souls (I just couldn't hear what Greg was singing.)
14. The Academy Is
13. The Fight
12. Mike Park
11. Bayside
10. Number One Fan
9. All American Rejects
8. Throw Rag
7. This Day & Age
6. Hot Rod Circuit
5. New Amsterdams
4. Motion City Soundtrack (day 1)
3. Straylight Run
2. Motion City Soundtrack (day 2).
1. Flogging Molly
Due to changed set times and capacity constraints -- I was unable to see Minus the Bear, Anberlin, Thrice, Vendetta Red, Midtown, Further Seems Forever and Alkaline Trio.
Will I go again? Not next year. If it runs smoothly then, I'll possibly return in two years. This weekend was a new low in my concert experiences. I'll stick with more experienced/competent promoters next time.

And I find it funny that the singer of Spitalfield was locked out of Thrice.

ight i went to day 2. I thought it was amazing. I know there were alot of organizing problems, but the bands i saw and the line up was just incredible. i saw motion city soundtrack, say anything, mae, hidden in plainview, rufio, the early november, midtown, senses fail, further seems forever, fall out boy, and starting line. Here are some highlights:
- Motion city soundtrack as the secret set in the rain outside...that was mad fun.
- The early november in general was an amazing set..they retired 'everynights another story' there, and pete from fob came out to sing along for it
- JIM BREUER!!!! i love this man, and he was Lincs special guest, came out right b4 midtown. he was really funny.
- Napoleon Dynamite introduced Midtown! That dudes the man
- Further Seems Forever rocked the shit out of the place :animateds i was all the way up front, but my friend in the back said that the place was pacted, they had the most ppl, which isnt surprising.
- Fall out boy playing their new songs...got me so pumped for the new cd....they are gonna be huge
- Being one of the few who decided to stay till the end for THE STARTING LINE. since they got on later than expected, every1 left, and by the last song the place was almost completely empty..such an intimate performance at the end..they rocked the place! also i got to meet them at that merch booth
yea so for bamboozle i would give: Bands- 10/10 Organizing- 6/10, Weather- 4/10
They may not have organized it the best tehy could...but the line up still was amazing. i would def go again next year. but since they had capactiy issues maybe they should move it to a different place.

So, was anyone else close to tears during HRC when they were talking about Jay leaving and he ended up breaking down?
And then the played At Nature's Mercy right after that? (Go listen to the song or look at the lyrics and then think about it in regards to the situation)
So yeah, even after all the crappy shit that happened this weekend, that's the kind of thing that made it worth it.

I can tell you they dropped the ball with the FSF thing... I know several people who went just for that and couldnt get in.
yea...i was one of them. a few of us got together on the beach and were listening to their set through the load in door and one of the security guys tried to shut the doors so we couldn't listen. but the crew for fall out boy told him to screw off since we were just listening and not causing trouble. high five to the fall out boy crew

Most Disappointing
1. Say Anything
Are you high? Hands down, one of the top 3 sets of the whole festival.
On the subject of the festival, a pretty shitty experience overall due to the poor organization. I personally will never go to another show that Max Cruise puts on. This festival would get a 0/10 if it weren't for the bands that I actually DID get to see putting on great performances. I'd give about a 3/10.

Max was visible nervous, and you could hear it in his voice.
While I understand why, it's the kind of thing you have to get over if you're going to be in a band.
Don't get me wrong, I love this band (...Is A Real Boy was probably my favorite album of last year), and I still enoyed the set. I wanted to see them again on Sunday but couldn't.
My hopes were just really high since when I went to see them with Straylight Run, Max lost his voice and they only played two songs, so it was pretty much my first time seeing them.

I don't know if anyone said this or not, I really didn't feel like reading all 7 pages, but for people complaining about BS and FM 'being moved' outside...while I was waiting for Kane Hodder to start on Sunday, I overheard a member of the staff saying to another staff member "Bouncing Souls and Flogging Molly want to play outside, not inside". So in Max Cruise's defense (which is one of the few times, because the organization was so poor), they chose to allow BS and FM to move outside, which is pretty cool in my book. And it's also pretty cool that the bands wanted to play outside.
Oh yeah...I was really pumped when I heard Jim Breuer was going to be there, but was super disappointed when he came out. He told one joke, did the AC/DC thing and whored himself for Sirius the whole time. It was kinda sad really...

it was really unorganized, the rain on saturday really fucked things up, the fire marchall fucked things up that day too with letting people into the main stage. friday was fucked up because everything started at lest 2 hours behind. everything was just behind in general. sets got changed. bands were scheduled to play and then didn't because two bands were booked at the same time. some sets were to short. totally fucking stupid that you can't bring a back pack into the section where pratically all the merch was, i had to sneek mine in all three days. there were so many bands i missed because of fucked up things. i was glad that they got the stage out of the outer hall of the convention, that was the worst stage ever IN MY OPINOIN (and like other people say i'm allowed to have one) the sound always sucked on the stage so much because of the horrible echos. they just need to find a better place to put skate and surf, bamboozle whatever the fuck you wanna call it it's the same shit just with a different name. cause the sound always sucks and shit is always fucked up. if i could think of a better place i would but thats not my job. i'm sure it would piss some people off like the way syracuse was when they moved hellfest to the rexplex. maybe thats where skate and surf bamboozle should be. hellfest was better than this shit. some of the best sets were the blood brothers, say anything, alkaline trio, underoath, motion city soundtrack (outside in the rain), fear before the march of flames, and many others. the horrible sets were all american rejects (so bad that i acutally fell asleep), my chemical romance (only because gerard doesn't know when to such the fuck up sometimes) and i have to say i was really dissappointed by the academy is.
did anyone see northern state on day three?
they were so awesome...

my face is still sitting on that lawn somewhere. the only sucky part was that they got cut off after 3 songs. i never thought they could possibly be that ON live, but they were. i talked to one of the guitarists for a while, and he was a super nice, humble guy. i have a lot of respect for those dudes, and i hope they make it big, because they have more talent than a lot of bands that played on the main stage.

for those of you that are saying that it was max cruises first festival, they have been doing skate and surf too WITH concerts east. (someone else said this too i believe)
they were in charge of the production for skate and surf 2004 and they have shows at convention hall a good amount of times throughout the year.
maybe i'm just partial cause i work for concerts east and we know how to do it right.

That would explain why their merch was next to eachother.

all merch was supposed to be outside and then moved inside because of the weather...
Apparently set times were cut short because of the weather.

it was disorganized...set times were always being pushed back, the power cut out during saosin's set, on friday max cruise forgot to get a power permit from the city so the outdoor stage started like 3 hours late, people could not get into the convention hall on sat night not even the merch guys for fall out boy or the starting line
MC didn't forget to get a permit... months after getting a permit for Bradley Park from the city of Asbury, it was turned into state park and nobody notified them about it or told them they now needed a new permit from the state.
Apparently someone on the board in asbury had the intent of ruining the festival for the MC guys.
The Fire Marshall changed the capacity of the venue from 6000 to 4500 after the event was sold out. On Sunday, it was the fire marshall's decision to alleviate the stress on Convention Hall's capacity to make some of the most popular bands play at the same time!
LH
they didn't even have a permit to have the stage in the park the first day and that held up the fest for a good 3 hours.
I already addressed the issues with overselling CH, that was a BS fire marshall thing. I also addressed the permit issue, it's not that they didn't have a permit (they did) It's the city neglecting to tell them they needed a different permit after the park became a state park.
The venue issue was unfortunate. It costs a lot of money to open a venue for all day. I wasn't aware that Wonder Bar was charging money, but i did confirm JIMI was doing it... How can you tell a bar owner what to do with his property? The problem was so many young kids there not spending money... if they were open all day friday and they only made a few hundred in sales between alchohol and non-alcoholic beverages, and they had to pay the electric bills, staff, security, etc. there was only two alternatives: close the venue or charge money.

Max Cruise tried to match the success of Skate and Surf and it was terrible.
one has to ask: if surf and skate was so successful, why wasn't there one this year?!
I mean they over sold convention hall, made bands sell tickets for 3 day passes to get on the fest but didn't tell people until the day of the fest those tickets for were for everywhere but he convention hall,
That's simply NOT true!!!...
1) It clearly said on the MC website that you were buying a ticket to the festival and not any particular venue. Once capacity at convention hall was reached, they didn't sell any more tickets for it.
2) I'm in a local band and it clearly said what venues the bands tickets were for. I have an unsold ticket in front of me and it states in bold print on every ticket that it's NOT for convention hall, but gives you access to the other venues. I can scan it in if you want. Those tickets were given to bands well after CH was sold out... All the bands were informed of this in advance.
LH
at a certain point they didnt let anymore kids into convention hall saying that its at capacity, total bullshit, its nearly impossible to fill up convention hall. i give it a 5
Nearly impossible to put 4500 people in it? My Chemical Romance could probably sell it out by themselves.

There's no way I'm gonna read all the posts from this thread but I will add my 3 cents in here since I was there for all 3 days.
I made the trek up from Virginia with my friend and got their a little late on Friday but apparently we were still on time since everythin was so delayed. Since I thought I had missed Spitalfield's set (which was one of the sets I had wanted to see the most) I went inside and watched I Can Make a Mess. They put on a pretty good set. I stayed inside and saw Relient K who has a lot of different instruments they include and the sound guys were having their troubles getting them set up. Anyways, I was inside for most of Friday's sets and saw the previously mentioned bands and: Motion City Soundtrack, Straylight Run and Anberlin. This was also the day where I volunteered to help the PunkStop.com tent advertise a Spitalfield signing session and probably annoyed the fuck out of a bunch of people with the loudspeaker they gave me but I told them I'd spread the word. The guys ended up letting me keep my merch I bought in their tent the rest of the weekend so it was worth it, plus Spitalfied is tight.
Saturday was the day where I had the most fun and saw the most bands. The weather outside was horrible this day though. It was cold like Friday but now with a constant rain or drizzle. I got to start it off with awesome sets from Say Anything and Mae inside the Convo Hall. I then went out to check out the Academy Is. And in attempt to warm up I went in and checked out Lucero in the Paramount Theatre (first time hearing them). I cut out early in time to go see The Spill Canvas and Moneen put on some great sets then went inside and caught the end of Rufio and a quality TEN set where they announced the retirement of Every Night's Another Story. Then me and my bud rushed outside to see Big D but apparently there had been set changes and they had already played. I stuck around and checked out Chronic Future and then realized they were the band from MVP baseball last year (totally tits in my opinion). Copeland put on a lovely set in the rain, albeit short. It was then that I tried to make my way back inside and was met by a massive crowd outside the door. FSF's set was going on and they apparently had reached capacity so I had to wait outside for like 2 hours. I did enjoy people crowd surfing in the mass of people waiting until the security guys flipped shit. Apparently so did the people pissed at waiting since the glass doors were all cracked. I did get in for the FOB set which was packed back to the sound booth but I made my way to the front rail by the last song. Definitely a bunch of energy, good set. I left after them though and called it a night.
The last day, the weather was great. I didn't even go inside the whole day. I went down to the Stone Pony to check out High School Football Heroes. Good stuff. Ska is still fun. Then I came back down to the park and caught HelloGoodbye, Gym Class Heroes, and Say Anything. All great sets. I checked out Days Away's set and I also learned that the ladies in Jinxed are very attractive. I ended up going down to Club Jimi and checking out a small band from NC called Ashwin out. However with a 5 hour trip back to Virginia ahead of my friend and I, we decided to call it a weekend and head out early. I would've loved to have stayed and caught Flogging Molly and Alk3 but they had changed their set times so that they weren't playing till 8ish so we weren't gonna wait.
Overall I had heard that Surf and Skate was better from everyone I had talked to. It was pretty enjoyable nonetheless. Lengthy set changes and delays were uncool as was the long line Saturday night.
Best set: Say Anything
5 Next best: Moneen, Mae, Fall Out Boy, Motion City Soundtrack, Spill Canvas
Best first impression: Chronic Future and High School Football Heroes
Missed sets: Spitalfield, Melee, Big D
Max Cruise could use a little polishing for next year but it's still a good time when you can see so many bands in one weekend. Maybe not worth all the money spent, I might've stayed for Flipside if I hadn't ordered my Boozle tickets so early.
i think its funny everyone talks about the weather. the last 2 years before this one it rained like hell on saturday, especially two years ago. its april in new jersey at asbury park on the beach. windy, cold, rainy, shitty ass weekend weather.
i'm pretty sure the guys at max cruise used to work for concerts east and skate surf so they knew what they were doing.....chalk it up to laziness and greed for the failure of bamboozle.

meanwhile, i saw someone say piebald sucked, but they were definitely the best set on saturday. way better than fall out boy, their act is getting old. lame
i think its funny everyone talks about the weather. the last 2 years before this one it rained like hell on saturday, especially two years ago. its april in new jersey at asbury park on the beach. windy, cold, rainy, shitty ass weekend weather.
i definitely remember that. also, if you look up the old skate and surf lineups, they cleary rule.... but whatever. any chance i get to see music down the shore, i take. enough said.

When did Jinxed play?!? They weren't on the updated schedule on the doors and when I asked at the Bamboozle tent the people just looked at me like I was crazy...so I just assumed they dropped. Son of a bitch! I figured that was one of my only chances to see them since no one ever comes to Pittsburgh because the music scene here is fuckin lame.

They played Sunday afternoon around like 3ish I think. I had only heard of them before but not only were they hot but they could play their music well...double hot.

MC didn't forget to get a permit... months after getting a permit for Bradley Park from the city of Asbury, it was turned into state park and nobody notified them about it or told them they now needed a new permit from the state.
Apparently someone on the board in asbury had the intent of ruining the festival for the MC guys.
The Fire Marshall changed the capacity of the venue from 6000 to 4500 after the event was sold out. On Sunday, it was the fire marshall's decision to alleviate the stress on Convention Hall's capacity to make some of the most popular bands play at the same time!

The problem was so many young kids there not spending money... if they were open all day friday and they only made a few hundred in sales between alchohol and non-alcoholic beverages, and they had to pay the electric bills, staff, security, etc. there was only two alternatives: close the venue or charge money.

thank you for providing this information. not only was it written in a clear way that everyone should be able to understand, but i think it will help clear up a lot of rumors/gossip/misinformation.

skate surf 03 on saturday was defintely shitty, and i could have sworn 2004 saturday was bad too. sunday is always beautiful though. and it always tends to be windy being right on the ocean.
nah man, s&s last year was bright and sunny the whole weekend, i remember the boys i went with were bragging to all our friends about how we were going to see all their favorite bands in beautiful weather without them. ;)
the majority of my opinion could be summed up by pretty much all the posts here- max cruise sucks, say anything was amazing saturday, merch shouldve been outside, the hall for FSF was barely filled, etc etc.
i've gotta say i find it funny that people missed sets cause they moved em around, me and my frineds this year were able to see pretty much everyone we wanted by reading the new signs/set schedules they put up.
maybe i'm just weird that way but i loved all the bands we/i saw except mae, who i love recorded. live they were kind of dull though, i was just waiting for it to end so we could leave. (my one friend wanted to see them, my main prob w/bamboozle was having to see bands that i DIDNT want to. ^_^)
bands seen:
FLOGGING MOLLY, MY CHEMICAL ROMANCE, HELLOGOODBYE,
SAY ANYTHING, BAYSIDE, GYM CLASS HEROES,
PUNCHLINE, HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL HEROES,
CAFFEINE, THE FIGHT, THE ACADEMY IS, MIDTOWN,
SENSES FAIL, FURTHER SEEMS FOREVER,
FALL OUT BOY, THE STARTING LINE,
and a big WTF to Van Stone.
also i caught a lot of parts-of-sets, like Paramore, Over It, Days Away, Underoath (sucky), This Day & Age... whatever, i thought it rocked and the bands were all suprisingly good live. sue us for enjoying ourselves, we spent half the time strolling on the boardwalk (and saw the academy doing promo shots on the beach, dropping William on his ass on the sand multiple times, ha) and talking to band dudes and random merch people and sneaking our cameras past the security guards, what, 8+ times? it was sweet.
and for those of you who like MCR, one of my friends is friends with a cousin of Gerard and Mikey (this sounds so bad, wow) who was riding on their bus, so we kind of chilled around there a while.. ate funnel cake... haha yeah. fun weekend. i like shows and going to shows and making fun of scene kids and tight pants. and this is a huge post so i'm gonna stop now.
