the following bands are doing NOTHING to help music and need to be stopped:

my chemical romance, finch, the get up kids, over it, acceptance, punchline, coheed and cambria, fall out boy, sugarcult, june, the junior varsity, hey mercedes (i dont care that some of those dudes were in braid, they suck), hawthrone heights, relient k, copeland, brandston, pretty much anything on the militia group, the suburban legends, reel big fish, matchbook romance, from first to last, the matches, less than jake, linkin park, zebrahead, new homegrown, limbeck, the black maria, melee, cartel, underoath, norma jean, spitalfield, name taken, emanuel, days away, hellogoodbye, grattitude, number one fan, TBS, lucero, piebald, alexonfire, saosin, name taken, mae, reeve oliver, action action, a thorn for every heart, dont look down, anberlin, halifax, hidden in plain view.

now, second step. if you disagree with me, then call me on it, and explain why any of said bands are making music better. need bands i like to do it? check my profile.

lets revive this forum and learn something while we're at it.

i like...acceptance, coheed and cambria, fall out boy, copeland, brandston, pretty much most of militia group, underoath, norma jean, name taken, gratitude, tbs, saosin, mae, and anberlin.

But the majority of these bands are pop, therefore they don't need to do anything for music, they are what they are. Pop is pop.

As far as shit cds go: The new mars volta is horrible, they fucked prog up and they know it, total shit.

Gatsby's American Dream - Boring, unoriginal, bland music. Eww.

And also, I'm from omaha, and I think Conor Oberst is an overrated piece of shit. Tim kasher is where it is at.

Action-Action own but you like some good bands (your profile) so I'm not gonna criticize you.
Just so you know, if you like synth rock, you can't get much better. By the way try listening to CO&CA, they are actually a really talented group of musicians. If you don't like Claudio's voice, his guitar really makes up for it.

okay... and i expect you'll at least hear my rebuttal, so here it is: pop music is as influental as anything in society, and they also should be out there pushing musical boundaries. more people listen to them, therefore its easier to make an impact on more people. they have the most responsibility.

the mars volta to me is HUGE. the elements of salsa, jazz and rock in their work is revolutionary and amazing. but maybe thats just me.

gastbys song structuring is groundbreaking. and im not even a big fan.

tim is much better than connor. but connor writes some kickass tunes.... hence " i dont know when but a days gonna come"

i like most of those bands. i'm sure everyone in this forum likes at least one except you.

youre a tool for that pathetic attempt to isolate me.

make a point, you rimjob.

the funny part is, i have owned and played both Coheed albums for probably somewhere close to a year. i just dont find it as "prog" as everyone says it is.

i did claudios voice, i just want his guitar better (ironically)

ok, here goes:

I'll agree with you on every single last one of those bands except for 2. Suburban Legends, and Piebald.

SL i can't defend very well except for this: upon hearing their music, my rump uncontrollably starts to shake. Something about their songs is just so fucking catchy, it's like a big chunk of audio rock candy. It's like they digitized sugar, when I listen to the suburban legends, regardless of where i am or what time of day it is, I dance.

Out of all of Piebalds albums, We Are The Only Friends That We Have is the only one i like. However, I don't just like this cd, I love it. it's pretty unhealthy. It sounds completely unlike their older material, which was basically just cookie cutter emo. This album was straight up rock and roll, with a few songs that had weird time signatures. But it worked. The album is just plain fun to listen to. I aspire to write tracks as incredibly diverse, and yet perfectly structured, as those written by Travis.

The other bands can all huff my dong for all i care.

You also forgot to put TSL on your list. Their new album was even more of a letdown than FOB's.

jesus dude calm yourself. i didnt mean to "isolate you." i repsect your opinion, i was just saying i bet most people here like at least one of those bands. and out of all of those i like elliott smith, conor oberst and tim kasher more. so i suppose i apologize for "isolating you".

If I had my way, I'd force all of you to listen to "Ænima" all the way through. I think that would open some (third) eyes.

first off, I don't really like any of those bands, so I'm not going to try to defend them or say just how good they are etc.

second off, I didn't realize bands were supposed to do something to help the music. bands play music for fun/entertainment. I couldn't care less about the bands you've mentioned, but I never heard any of those bands say that they want to help music. just how can one help music anyway? that doesn't make sense to me? (please feel free to explain, because as andrew said, these bands are "pop" and they never claimed to be anything different.. so I don't understand how they can do anything special/big or whatever). and besides, everyone has different tastes. people relate to different kinds of music even though sometimes I don't understand how people can listen to certain bands... I simply don't care if they do, as long as they don't force me to, too. I don't care if those bands people listen to "don't help the music", I honestly just don't care at all about what bands that I don't like do. I don't see why I should.

I just ignore all bands that don't interest me.

Most of these bands really are not that good and do not have much to offer music, but they will come and go as time passes, so dont worry so much about stopping them.
Think back to the 70's: There were a bunch of shitty 70's singers who were idolized by all of america. They had absolutely nothing to offer music and look what happened to them. Nobody today really gives a fuck about what them, though they were the most popular artists around at the time. All this while bands such as Led Zepplin and Pink Floyd were creating masterful albums, though the shitty singers where still higher on the charts. Look who is still remembered today..........as I said, dont worry.

that is completly ignorant. helping music? how about just making music, the kind of music they like to make. Its ridiculous that you say they should be stopped. Why? because you dont like them???Before you make dumb random post, stop to think about the bands that you mentioned, out there playing shows every night, away from their home living out of vans,ect..all for the LOVE of music.
