I need some recommendations for new music. Here's my LastFM (http://last.fm/user/cjurewicz). If only their recommendation system wasn't a piece of shit I'd use that. I haven't really been keeping up with the indie releases of 2008, and would like to know what you guys think is worth a purchase. I'll take recommendations on non-new material as well. Thanks a bunch

In another useless thread.

Useless to you maybe, but I don't feel like going through all the other threads reading about bands I know about. And if it is useless to you, why post? Do you really need the addition to your post count?

According to your lastfm you just download whatever band has been featured on myspace.
Why don't you just keep doing that?
The Most Serene Republic. Just some random Canadian "indie" band worth your time.
My god the "why post if you don't think it's important" argument.
If you weren't aware, obviously somebody had to get you straight.

See, you're the kind of snob I'm talking about. Now if only you'd recommend the amazing music that you listen to that's so much better than mine, we'd be getting somewhere.

And time has already been spent listening to them

I like last.fm's recommendations
They just haven't given me any new ones in forever, and a majority of my listening to music is on my iPod, not my computer, so I rarely scrobble music.

Last.fm provides the worst recs.
Give the new Department Of Eagles a shot, as well as The Tallest Man On Earth, The War On Drugs, Wilderness, etc.

I keep 'dismissing' the ones I don't want to listen to/ don't like and it generates new ones

I haven't really been digging Department of Eagles or The War On Drugs, but I should probably listen to them more, as so many people seem to love them, but I'll definitely give the other two a listen.

^ Them, recently started listening and they're pretty good.

I'm assuming you've heard the latest Oldham record but if not, certainly worth your time. 08 hasn't been that strong for mellow singer-songwriter stuff but Horse Feathers, Laura Marling, and Michael Zapruder all released decent efforts.

Isn't there a separate section here just for recommendations? Hmmm...
But yeah how about:
Dreamend
British Sea Power
Lightspeed Champion
Pomegranates
Racoo-oo-oon
That should give you a little 2008 "indie" to chew on.
Bark Psychosis. Some excellent post rock.

UK indie is atrocious.
Agreed. Arctic Monkeys may be one of the most overrated bands of the decade.

definitely overrated.
i still like them, but dont claim theyre the best indie band or whatever like i saw loads of people saying.
plus they got way too hyped up then people decided to send them to the US, i mean who thought of that. lets build them up then send them to the country with one of the worlds biggest music business,if not the biggest and throw them in at the deep end.
Done what so much better?

Is my lastfm not working or something? Half the bands in that list I listen to frequently.
