Has anyone been following this today? It's insane. Over 80 people have been killed, like 800 injured.

It's been going on since like 11 last night. I woke up to the news blaring outside my room. And it's STILL going on and it's almost 3pm.

It all seems to complete chaos right now. Is it known who is behind this yet?
"Deccan Mujahedeen'' claimed responsibility for the attacks

"Deccan Mujahedeen" is like saying "this was the Kansas sect of the Mujahedeen". It's islamic extremists targeting westerners.

Indiavikalp focuses on the report that one of the captured terrorists confessed to being a member of the Lashkar-e Tayibah (http://indiavikalp.blogspot.com/2008/11/100-killed-250-injured-in-mumbai-terror.html) (Army of the Pure), a Pakistan-based jihadi group that used to train in al-Qaeda camps. This group is an offshoot of Da'wa wa Irshad (Missionizing and Guidance), which was linked to the Ahl-i Hadith movement and was originally founded in the mid-1980s to combat Shiite influence in Pakistan.

Crazy shit. When I saw that the Taj Mahal Hotel got hit I thought it was the Trump Taj Mahal was hit for a second.

All this stuff going on is a shame. So heart-breaking.

Also, for years in elementary school and a bit of high school I used to prank call the Trump Taj Mahal because their phone number is 1-800-234-5678.

Living in Mumbai has been really shitty for the past 2 days, God. I can hear helicopters over my building every 30 minutes. There are encounters still on at 2 places.

Pakistan has been blamed for it yet again. "Deccan Mujahideen" my ass.

The situation, if they are traced back to Pakistan--you are talking to two nuclear armed nations. These next few months are going to be very intense.

The mothership dropped them off a way away from the Mumbai coastline onto a speedboat. The two suspected motherships have been caught.

Oivey..

Please, anybody in that area of the world, be safe and stay alert. It looks like we're gonna have to start relying on our own good sense to survive.

saysmydoctor, I hope nothing nuclear comes of this. That would be horrifying. But I hope there's no fearmongering about that unless it's a real, immediate threat. That would destroy the economy further.

You took the words right out of my mouth with this entire post, this is becoming an extremely intense situation, so anyone over there please stay safe

This could potentially be a huge economic disaster if it turns into anything nuclear, here's to hoping it doesn't come down to that though

There seems to be a larger reaction from the Obama camp than the Bush administration, although the FBI did offer to help. Apparently the Mossad and the Scotland Yard are going to arrive here soon.

it sucks even more because my mom is visiting india right now for my cousins engagement...
and even though she wasnt anywhere near the taj/oberoi, there were several bomb blasts
and one of them was on the street she was staying on because some high political ppl live on that street
i just hope obama has a decent response to this
because i do NOT want my parents native country (INdia) to go to war with a US "ally" (Pakistan)

BBC News is reporting that the United States warned India a month ago about an attack on Mumbai by sea, and they knew at least one of the hotels was a potential target. One US official said that India had been told of an apparent plot to launch an attack on Mumbai from the sea, Associated Press news agency reported.

The reports came as India's navy chief said there had been "systemic failures" in the country's security and intelligence services.

...

The Indian media have said he is linked to the Kashmiri militant group, Lashkar-e-Toiba, or Army of the Pure, but the group has denied responsibility. An Indian official appeared to confirm the US media reports that there was a known threat to at least some of the locations targeted, including the Taj Mahal Palace hotel.

Mumbai police chief Hassan Gafoor told a news conference on Tuesday that security authorities had "had an alert that hotels like Taj could be exposed to such danger".

ABC News quoted Indian officials as saying that after receiving the US warning, they also intercepted a satellite phone message on 18 November warning of a seaborne attack on Mumbai.
The city had been on high alert but security measures at the attacked hotels had recently been relaxed, the network reported.

ABC also reported that the Indian authorities had seized a mobile phone SIM card belonging to the attackers, which they said had led to a "treasure trove" of contacts and information.
