I know people have done threads for SAT and PSAT scores but I didn't see one for ACT. I made a 25 and was wondering is this a good score and also what you guys made.

yeah, that's pretty good. It's like equivlant to an 1,100 on the SAT

Average score on the ACT is 21. I scored a 24, I believe. I can't remember exactly, as it was almost four years ago.

my act score was 28 (10th grade), 30 (11th grade), and finally 32 two months ago. not that it matters cause my grades, gpa, and rank are shit.

Braggart. That's a ridiculously good score. I'm jealous. Of course, I only took it once, didn't study, and stayed up till about 2am the night before. So I didn't exactly set the stage for success.

As with all my tests, I'm aiming perfect - but I would certainly be content with yours.

Not true. I got a 32 and it definitely helped my college app (I had almost no extracurriculars). They look at everything.

Well i dont really understand scoring and i know how big of a deal colleges make of test scores. I have a 3.6 gpa and a 25 on the ACT so i think ill be fine but does anyone know what colleges look for extracurricular wise?

i'm 28 out of 354. 3.23 gpa. not bad, but it could be better. i should have taken athletics or band. those are free 100s and would have boosted my gpa.

I remember the charts and diagrams being a little confusing at the time. After taking thermodynamics in college and having to be able to read steam charts, I'd love to go back and look at the ACT and see if they're near as confusing as I remember them being haha...

Nah, I'm pretty sure I took it the last year before they added the written part. I would have taken it in '04-'05? And as weird as this sounds, I've never talked to anyone else that got a 34 composite. I've heard of a lot of people with 33's, and a couple of 35's and 36's, but I'm the only one I've ever come across that scored a 34. I'm not sure how that's even possible.

You have good reason to be egotistical about your score. I wouldn't exactly classify pretentiousness as a very liked quality in a person, though, and I often find myself questioning the true capabilities of those that do possess such pompous qualities. If you're really so talented, why would you feel the need to boast about it as opposed to demonstrating the talent and allowing people to form their own opinions? The fact that you don't feel that need to boast about your score gives me the impression that not only are you smart in terms of intellect, but also in terms of modesty.

On a side note, I scored an 18 when I took the ACT for the Duke TIP program in seventh grade.

Jean-Paul Sartre once said that "[m]odesty is the virtue of the lukewarm." A controlled arrogance in one's own competence can often be the catalyst that separates great from merely good.

And I must say: you're articulate beyond your years if your displayed age is correct.

First of all, no way are you 13. I know 22 year-olds, hell 50 year-olds that can't organize and articulate their ideas that well. Secondly, no one should ever be egotistical about their ACT score. It's not an aptitude test, it's completely curriculum-based and shows your ability to learn and retain dictated information. Seriously, a lot more people could score in the 30's if they took the time to prepare for it. Lastly, a piece of advice for you if you really are 13. You are absolutely right for questioning the mental capacities of people who claim to be omniscient. The true geniuses are the ones that don't feel the need to prove themselves to their peers.

I'm not aiming at anyone imparticular but, nonetheless, this thread reeks of embellishment.

I have a feeling that if anyone is exaggerating, it isn't by much. I would imagine that the average ACT score of ap.net users is significantly higher than the national average. Also, those users that saw the thread and scored well on the test were probably more apt to post their scores than those that scored a little more modestly.

I feel like the ideology behind intelligence is getting lost in semantics with you two. Also, I don't know about you, but where I come from, those who scored the higher scores were rarely ever "prepared": I know I didn't spend a second on said preparation. I don't think the causal relationship between preparation and performance is all that significant either. Even though it may be circulated as curriculum-based, there are far too many educational variances for that to be wholly plausible. I jumped from a 28 to a 30 without securing a base either time while I have two friends who studied on their second tries and still ended up with the same scores: 26 and 17, respectively. Concerning courses, I was equally prepared for each section, yet there was a double-digit divide between word and number.

And fuck modesty: it's an overrated sentiment and is in no way consistent with the human condition.

In all honesty, I'm actually thirteen years and eleven months... I really appreciate that, though, and feel like that last sentence could have saved me a whole lot of time and typing. If only I'd thought of that summarization before my previous post!

And fuck modesty: it's an overrated sentiment and is in no way consistent with the human condition.
I've never considered modesty to be a natural trait myself. But whether or not it's consistent with the human condition is irrelevant to the consistency of the human mind: to just accept modesty's fictionality and appreciate what we believe to be the truth behind one's modesty. As I mentioned before, I think the presence of modesty in oneself, fictional or not, is a very well-liked quality to possess.

I've also discovered that, sometimes, ostentation relating to grades can backfire on you when you score the occasional "C" (or below). I figure, if I don't share even the good grades of mine with my peers, it will seem typical of me not to cave in to wanting to sharing the bad grades of mine with them.

Of course the "smarter" kids are going to score better, they understand the underlying concepts of the "curriculum" better. Though I absolutely guarantee you that I could sit down with a group of several motivated kids that scored in the upper 20's, and teach them a couple of things that would allow them to score in the 30's. The problem is, a lot of high schoolers don't know how to focus their studying, they don't know how to distill information, and they don't know how to use their calculators.

In all honesty, I'm actually thirteen years and eleven months... I really appreciate that, though, and feel like that last sentence could have saved me a whole lot of time and typing. If only I'd thought of that summarization before my previous post!

I wish Washington schools did. The only one that I know looks at them at all is the University of Washington, but I don't think they count them for anything. Also not that it really mattered to me, my GPA was way lower than the lowest UW takes. Having the top Med school fucks all the local kids over. Takes like a 3.8 and amazing test scores to get in.

Oh damn.
Yeah...My school doesn't have GPA or rank soooo yeah! :celebrate:

I wish. My school did, but since it is a state school and they have to balance it out, all of the Washington state schools other than UW have piss poor entrance requirements since UW has such high ones. 4/5 of the state schools here will pretty much take you with a 3.0 and good test scores. Some even with a 2.5.

I need to troll less. I almost did that all last night. Might have had a better GPA if I trolled less.

Why not?

Because everyone in Boston knows the school is full of abercrombie wearing, douchebaggy spoiled kids.

But may I add, it's so nice not having to take the ACTs or doing amazingly well (1910) on the SATs and getting into my dream school. Hello Macalester College, you "new ivy" you.

You seem to have a decent head on your shoulders, don't fuck it up.

Sorry for the delayed response... but I appreciate the multiple compliments!

UNC Chapel Hill. BAH.

UNC-Chapel Hill is currently my dream school too... Sorry they didn't have the sense to accept someone with such a flawless music taste.

True, true.

I correct my earlier statement. By college most kids have moved on from Abercrombie to other brands, but the douchebaggy, spoiled part still stands.

I think that starting them when you are younger helps a lot.
As to your question about scores, last time I took it (8th grade) I got a 24.

Are you going to have a chance to take it again? Or are you past the point of no return?

Pretty much if you showed up in high school, some 4-year will take you. I barely existed and got into a state school. Also colleges seem to weigh test scores a ton here, pretty much 50/50 with GPA if not more. Not sure if that is standard everywhere, but maybe.

Well, my school doesn't do GPA or class rank and college know that but still.
I mean, I have a good resume and shit but there is still that FEAR.
