Rolling Stone seems to give EVERYTHING 3 stars unless it's a safe bet to do otherwise.

thats so true... most all rock albums are 3s and the 5s usually go out to older solo artist type folk (a new bob dylan cd or soemthing) or for generic rap (50 and the game) im not sure if ive ever seen a rock review get a 5, much less anything than a 3

Anyone else notice Rolling Stone has become extremely lame and mainstream the past few years? It's turned into the People Magazine of music publications.

i don't agree with some of RS star ratings, but the actual reviews themselves are sound. Much better than any sugared up crap you'll find elsewhere. They're actually honest about things.
I've also noticed how people tend to slate a certain magazine when said magazine gives one of their fave cd's a bad review.
I like this new album too guys!but its worth no more than a 3.

they must have had their ears plugged while listening to the cd for the review. it deserves 5 stars and then some!

I agree with Rolling Stone. This is not a life changing album, nor is it even an excellent one. I'm glad to see they've grown up a bit since Say It Like You Mean It, but the music has only gotten marginally better.

There's only 4 good songs on this entire album. This album is downloadable and nothing more.
In 5 yrs, TSL will NOT be around.

Yeah its the safe review. Then if it later turns out to be a cult classic like Pinkerton they revise it and give it 4 stars. The funny thing is every "scene" band gets 3 stars. Back when guk were scene everyone of their albums got three stars, and the reviews are usually only one paragraph commenting on everything but the music or making nuetral statements about the music.

Unless you're a new Bruce Springsteen album, or some 60's folk rock re-issue, your album isn't getting more than 4 stars in RS. That being said, 3-star reviews seem to be the norm for 'scene' bands that get a review in RS. Thrice got one for 'The Artist...', Emanuel, FOB...now TSL. I'm not sure "AP.net bands" get the respect many here think they deserve.

50 Cent's 'The Massacre' got 4 stars. Every song is nothing but gunshot samples, smacking bitches, and 'backing up on it'. But to each their own, I guess. Reviews are one person's opinion. Don't like or dislike an album because someone you don't know tells you so.

I think TSL put out a much stronger record than Fall Out Boy.

Honestly what I've noticed with RS is that they won't give something more then 3 if they haven't done something groundbreaking for the genre. Whether that is fair or not is another question. But SL is not groundbreaking, not by a LONG shot.

Bruce Springsteen and Bob Dylan get their extra star or two because honestly they deserve it, few people have done for music what the two of them have.

And I mean comeon, it is the Starting Line. If you really thought RS was going to give them more then 3 stars you should go hang yourself.

if anyone has read the review for SILYMI you notice that the review sounds like the reviewer really liked it but only gave it 3 stars. Read the review thats what matters.

Oh and Dashboard has gotten 4 stars, blinks got 4 stars twice, and beck got a 5 star, so sometimes they get it right.............sometimes

yea... the only relatively recent acts ive seen that have been given 5 stars are beck for sea change and the white stripes for elephant. i used to subscribe, but for some reason that mag just kept pissing me off. now all my music news/reviews come from this site or alternative press. :dweeba47:

I'm so happy that FINALLY, a publication doesn't get on their knees and suck the balls of Starting Line. Why are they set up to be like this unique/innovative thing? It's really sad that it had to come from RS but fuck right about now they are the only ones who can see through all this bullshit. Props to them.

Does it matter what a magazine gave an album? If you like it, good. If you don't, good. It's all opinion. I personally thing it is amazing.
