Not really since elements of the mars volta had been finding themselves in at the drive-in songs which is why they ended up breaking up. Old fall of troy is less wanky on guitar. It's fairly obvious that the dude heard deloused in the comatorium and was like OH SHIT JUST GOT REAL.

meh i have concerts on my computer from back when i liked them (i didn't play guitar and was easily presuaded to believe that guy was good at it), where they do that. they probably stopped because the mars volta stopped being a cool band to imitate. well that, and the new guy probably can't improv.

I'll put myself in the shoes of a TFOT fan. Even if I liked the band I would be concerned that they're rereleasing an album that was free and making me pay for it. Plus it looks like their creative well, as shallow as it was, has run dry if they're putting out 4 year old material.
