my honest opinion: i cant stand this guy. dont rape me for my opinion all you an angle lovers.
I know that he has been kind of accused of his similarity to conor. And i can see what they mean. The sing style (wavering, crackling, even the way he says certain words) is very very similier to conor. But it does have its own sound. I would say that it is not a copy, and it is his own work. So i can respect that. So basicly move past the comparisions to Oberst and listen to it for what it is. I did. And its good, not great, but good..
But i don't think i could listen to it for long..because after a couple streams i wanted to listen to bright eyes to see how it is done oh so well..

Based solely just on that first song...he's still trying to sound like Conor. It was alright, musically, though. A bit more original than the stuff I've heard off the last disc.

It has a little dylan in there with that conor voice. But it's not bad. That yelling part in the second song sounds like Tim Kasher. I wonder if drive thru signed him too? I kid, I Kid.
Edit: It might be the same guy doing the yelling.

The Good Life called....
they want their sound back.
Even so, considering I havent had my fill of the Good Life lately, I'm somewhat enjoying this.

Yeah, he does seem to have a pretty Dylan-esque voice at times.

and so does oberst. he just needs to find his own voice and over time i guess it will come.

It's pretty good, not really my stuff, but seems really good, and he's a good composer.

Stefanie = massive dylan fan
Richard = Massive bright eyes fan.
I don't think this guy is a rip-off, but more "heavily influenced". I love bright eyes, and at first i hated this guy, but I don't see him as a rip off anymore.

Okay, the few upbeat songs are decent. The slow ones are as well, but they all begin to sound the same. It's not a bad record for fans of this style of music, but most fans of this style are into the Good Life and Bright Eyes, and many wont look past the similarities. If those people can look past that, I think they'll enjoy this as well.
Change the World sounds just like a Bob Dylan song.

80% of the bands people listen to on here are generic sing/scream/sing bands copied off from other artists....but yet care if someone sounds like Bright Eyes? come on
It sure as hell beats Hawthorne Heights, GirlsXJeansXdyingXdays, and any other carbon copy band.
With that being said, the cd isn't that bad. I like the first better.

It sounds pretty good, I think..but then again, I'm a fan.
I'll pick up the CD when it's released...
he has seemed to stop trying to be just conor oberst.
he now seems to want to be conor and tim kasher.
great.
this is shit, i don't know if the guy means well, but man he needs to find his own sound.
desperately.
the production really isn't helping that either. sure he can claim that's just "how his voice is" but that doesn't mean production wise it should sound just like a bright eyes record.
everyone save yourselves the time of listening to this and pick up every record from the good life if you have not yet done so.

Lovers and Lawyers is my favorite by TGL and I dug the new Bright Eyes, but I was always more of a Desaparacidos and Cursive man myself.

Yea, alot people hear do listen to shitty generic music(hawthrone heights, matchbook romance, ect) but what he does in riping off bright eyes is completely different. I think he should be embarrased, but i gave this album a chance im not really digging it that much, i have to listen more though.

I don't think I'd dislike him at all if he'd just admit that he had even heard Bright Eyes before, but the fact that he's always saying that he had never heard Conor before makes me doubt any integrity he has- and when he admits that Green Water is influenced by Modest Mouse I might gain some respect for him. Whether or not they sound like someone else, they are amazing compositions and it's a good style- but still...

the good life music + conor oberst's voice/vocal patterns/material = an angle
it doesn't really bother me anymore. I like the album cover. it's nice.

Where did the Aquabats thread go Tate? Did the Starting Line get mad at you for not writing about how their song was playing in the background of the last Olsen twins movie?

Breaking Benjamin and Three Days Grace
i acutally like breaking benjamin (well their first cd, before they became incredibly damn generic...) but three days grace are diffrent, the voice isnt even the same... but the new breaking benjamin stuff maybe...

Botch and Fear Before the March Of Flames sound the exact same. But I hate an angle. Besides screaming is different then singing voices.

green water sounds like "Float On" by Modest Mouse.that was my first thought too.

i cant think of anything lyrically.........but i was listening to new FOB today and if they just put Jordan's voice on it , it could easily be a NFG cd
i cant think of anything lyrically.........but i was listening to new FOB today and if they just put Jordan's voice on it , it could easily be a NFG cd
K....well that might be stretching a bit far..and this is way off topic...but i have listened to the FOB cd..and i never once thought any comparison to NFG..i know opinions...but this is way diffrent..voice or not..i think FOB is way different then NFG...and patricks voice is way diffrent then jordans...and i am not even i big supporter of FOB...
...anywho back to An Angle...we really seem to get off topic don't we( and from my experiences on a forum that happens everywhere)...but about the album..not the comparisons, just what you think of the album period..i know i have no place to say this..but i have noticed this happens alot.......i come here alot to read news..then maybe sometimes i think..well i wonder what the vibe is....so i look at the replys, then it becomes a whole different topic then what i was looking for..so consider this an outsiders point of view for the time being..if i assume people are some what like me..and they come here to hear about bands they can't hear anywhere else...l know i would like it to be focused on the band..and i know that this(description) in a way describes the band to people who know "everything" about music...but what about the people who don't listen to bright eyes all the time..or really know what it is...they might listen to an angle and like..but if they come here..they might get the wrong impression on what the music sounds like..cus i think all we get at is that it sounds like something else..what about the people that don't know what "that" something else is....

so someone bitched me out for asking "the question". I was just asking a question, because they are really, really similiar. sure, hawthorne heights sounds like everyone else right now, but you can still take hawthorne heights and silverstein and tell them apart (sorry to anyone who likes those two bands). this dude's voice is seriously dead on with conor's. it's amazing scary and I was just asking a question. I'm not saying an angle is bad, I'm just saying it's really creepy. that is all.
and whoever said an angle sounds like dylan, I honestly don't hear it at all, and I listen to a lot of dylan. sayin'.

this is much, much, much better than his first record. some of the songs sound like he's been listening to alot of Jeff Buckley, which is obviously a good thing

i dont have a problem with a band sounding similar to another band.....but i cant get past the way he sings. not only does he have a similar voice to conor's but even sings in the exact style that conor would.

im impressed, i mean this stuff is a lil more catchy than what i thought he'd originally come out with...but you cant get over the fact that he sounded so much like conor at first..haha i guess you have to start somewhere? i will admit at least he's not getting worse.
