I'm just curious as to what qualities each of you look for in a song. Which things/aspects make up a perfect song for you? It can be anything, lyrics, music, solo's, screaming, 2 guitars, etc. etc. etc. But I want you to be somewhat specific. For example, a persons list might look like this:
Raw, hard-hitting music
Bass solo
Screaming
Powerful chorus
Intense breakdown
See? Now, let's find out what makes the perfect song for everybody.

Definatley not screaming. Good bass is a must. Thats why I like Modest Mouse so much. Raw, hard-hitting music is good every once in a while. A good chorus is also a must have. Has to be catchy(ex. The Academy Is...)

My list looks like this, and yes, i'm going pretty in-depth with it:
Catchy intro with horns
Trumpet solo
Trombone solo
Guitar solo
Powerful, sing-a-long chorus
Upbeats on guitar
Walking bass line
Fun lyrics
Clear vocals
That's my list. Hate it, love it. It doesn't matter. I know alot of you likely have complete opposite qualities in songs you enjoy, and that's awesome, I just want to know what they are.

Good lyrics - about something i can relate to
A touch of synth (sometimes)
Catchy high pitched guitar riffs
Good interesting guitar riffs (Blink-182 tired out nearly every easy chord combination)
Good singing (I don't like bands that sing badly)
No/little screaming (I'd prefer the first option, but I can take a little as long as it is good)
Decent sounding drums (I hate songs which have drums which sound like they should be in a dance song)

Hopefully good lyrics, and you can understand what theyre saying
Original guitar riffs
and double bass on the drums is the shit :)
once the drummer was doing double bass and the bassist was like soloing that was the greatest bass riff i ever heard... i dont even remember what song that was

Yeah when a song is lyrically well off it can be great just on the strength of that.
I guess what I look for above all is emotion, in whatever way.
