Shitty, but improving. There are a ton of deer here but the rack sizes aren't too big. Too many people used to shoot anything regardless of rack size. Things have been getting way better though because of antler restrictions. It's illegal to shoot anything under 4 points I believe. It's for the best though. How about where you live?

Yeah they have a limit on how many they give out, considering a lot of people here are hunters and they cant let everyone hunt. It would be very bad for the deers.
It usually depends on the previous years rain and a kind of census of the current deer population

Ahh ok. We kind of have something similar here but it's just for Elk.

ohhh cool, I think it differs from year to year here, except for fishing.
I guess its just population control.

We have decent-sized deer up in Minnesota, especially if you get up near the Canadian border. I went with my dad, my friend and his father a couple weeks ago (MN's deer season starts the first weekend in November) up by International Falls (which is right across from Canada about 300 miles north of Minneapolis) and there were some decent sized deer up there. Didn't get anything this year, but my friend shot an 8 point buck.
And that's not horrible. As long as people aren't trophy hunting, I don't have a problem with it.

Man I would absolutely LOVE to hunt in/near Canada. And I agree, trophy hunting is bullshit. I'm lucky enough to grow up in a family that doesn't tolerate that sort of shit. What pisses me off even more than trophy hunting is when people shoot does that are the size of a large dog.

I think I would cry if my chances of hunting depending upon a drawing every year. Not that I enjoy just shooting and killing things. Deer meat is absolutely delicious

I would too. Not only is deer meat delicious, but it's so nice to be out in the woods with your dad or whoever.

Before I left for school I went scouting with my dad, this was late September, our deer season in October, and we saw the biggest elk either of us had ever seen. It was at least a 6 by 6, it took up the entire road we were on.

One of my friends moved to Austin, Texas and that's all people there are about. It's sad really because in my opinion some of the best times hunting are the ones you come away empty-handed. Same goes with fishing.
He sent me an email about how bad Texas trophy hunting is - I need to find it.

Venison's amazing. Pheasants aren't bad too if you cook them right, but for the most part I've used pheasant hunting to train my dog in the past.

I want to go bear hunting so bad but it's way too close to deer season. If I were to get a bear and a deer, the butchering bill would be ridiculous. I should start looking in on how to butcher my own. The butchers around here rip you off big time on meat anyways.

Gah a bear! dang I would be a bit afraid to do that.
Butchering it yourself isnt that hard to learn.
I would hate to be ripped off like that.

Definitely, the stories alone are worth the experience. Especially if you go away a week to a cabin and what not with family/friends.
I love pheasants. It's weird how it's naturally spicy.

The one time I had already shot my deer early in the day so I was just sticking around and going on walking drives to see if I could kick anything out. I was on my hands and knees crawling through a set of laurels and noticed fresh bear shit and a tons of tracks. I didn't have a gun, if I would've ran into a bear I would've probably shit my pants hahah.

I would go into a fetal position if I saw a bear close to me.

I had a camera in my hand but I was so excited I couldn't of even get a picture of it, haha.

It's a good skill to know and something that I also wish I could do. My dad just has a friend who does it so I've never bothered to figure out any tricks of the trade.

Yeah, it's something you wouldn't think from first glance. A lot better than wild turkey.
Found that email:
Minnesota hunting is:
- Asking a local farmer who had a grove on his property if we could hunt
- Not paying a dime for that opportunity...all we were asked is to give some meat to the farmer
- Hunting for the pleasure..and for the meat that we got out of it
- Sitting in a tree stand freezing our butts off and getting your deer with a 12 gauge shotgun loaded with slugs
Things are different here. Deer season means:
- Getting on a deer lease for a minimum of $1000 per person per year
- Setting up a feeder(!) and feeding the deer year round
- Driving out to your blind...knowing the deer will be there in a bit, since the feeder's on a timer
- Sitting in the blind 30 feet from the feeder
- Shooting a deer with a scope-equipped shoulder cannon
- "Hunting" in a fenced-in area where the deer are kept in near-livestock conditions
- Bragging about taking down a buck that's the size of a poodle
- Putting a stupid "Texas Trophy Hunters" sticker on your 4x4 pickup

Not sure as she was before my time. The only three girls who post on a consistent basis in the Sports Forum are the ones in the NHL thread.
Any guy who claims to be a hunter at my school is usually a dick. Not saying they're all dicks or tools or douchbags.
Just based on the people I know, my mind has fallen pretty narrow as far as hunters go.
Plus they were shit McCainiacs.

Ha, my school used to be like that, now they find a way to move it around a bit...and I think fewer people in my area hunt...but, it used to be a scenario where 1/4 of the kids would be out of school if it were open on that day.
I don't hunt, but I find myself occasionally stopping on VS. when they are bow-hunting, I'd really like to try that, because it seems borderline impossible in some scenarios...

Archery is the shit. You definitely have way more advantages in getting a deer if you go during archery season.
I actually just ordered a crapload of Elk, Antelope, and Axis deer meat off the internet. I'm excited to try it all. I think there was some wild boar sausage in the pack too.
