Well its mothers day, I have to work at our hotel from 10 a.m to 10 p.m. for a 900 person brunch. I want to know what you all think are the best albums of the first quarter of this year. Alburms that were released January, February, March (I know im a little behind). I hope to do this every quarter so we can really reflect on what albums were truly amazing in 2005 sense thre are so many. So please put in your top 3 - 5 albums in the first quarter, Im gonna add them all up and run a poll next week. Lets keep the thread clean and to the point, no comments on an album you don't like. If you agree give scene points or something....Thanks guys

so many good ones...

Eisley, The Academy Is..., Gym Class Heroes, Copeland, Mae, Fall Out Boy (yes I said it and I still love them and all of you naysayers can go take a flying fuck over a rolling doughnut cuz I just don't care), Steel Train, Gatsbys American Dream, Acceptance...it just keeps going.

Edit: whoops I guess I should've read the post a little more closely, but I don't take back anything I said.

My favorite records of this year that I can think of off the top of my head are

Kevin Devine
Thunderbirds are now!
System of a Down
Mars Volta
MSI

I may have totally overlooked one or two, forgive me.

The Starting Line
Acceptance
Anberlin

The Higher

Those sound like some good ones to mention right now...there are so many more though.

The Decemberists - Picaresque
Thunderbirds Are Now! - Justamustache
Single Frame - Body/End/Basement
Stars - Set Yourself on Fire
Hot Hot Heat - Elevator

and I really want to stick Sufjan Stevens - Illinois up there but it doesn't fit in your "first quarter" thing.

I'm going to have to say Acceptance's "Phantoms" tops my list of albums so far this year. (Even though we've all had it since last year lol, which is why I included it in this post).
Closely behind that The Academy Is... "Almost Here" followed by Copeland's "In Motion."

kane hodder, the letters organize, the locust, mindless self indulgence..... yeah im behind on getting albums. im sure the new circa survive is a good one too.

I really like the latest albums by Copeland, The Receiving End of Sirens, Acceptance, and Bright Eyes, but my favorite of the year would definitely be The Decemberists - Picaresque.

EDIT: Whoops, I just looked at the message again, if we're only counting the first three months of the year then I'd take out TREOS and Acceptance and add The Academy Is...

alkalinexandy
05/08/05, 12:28 AM
1. The Falcon - God Don't Make No Trash OR Up Your Ass With Broken Glass
2. Over It - Silverstrand
3. Smoke Or Fire - Above The City
4. Reggie & The Full Effect - Songs Not To Get Married To
5. Fall Out Boy - From Under The Cork Tree

It's been a weak first quarter for punk rock. But I can't wait for Alkaline Trio, MxPx, the Transplants, No Use For A Name, the Lawrence Arms, A Wilhelm Scream, the Dropkick Murphys, and Foo Fighters albums to drop in the early summer. There's hope around the corner.

I could have mentioned Mozart and then Metallica, would you still think of me differently?

for me, this year has been pretty disappointing so far.

copeland - in motion
the mars volta - frances the mute
the receiving end of sirens - between the heart and the synapse

that's it so far. armor for sleep, bright eyes, and a few others were good, but I lost love for them fast.

Ok, let's see...
-Armor For Sleep "What to do when you are dead" (Didn't like them before, but this is simply amazing!)
-Over It "Silverstrand" (Great summertime music, and I'm finally proud to say that pop-punk is getting pretty good, with this and...)
-The Academy Is... "Almost Here" (Once again, great album to listen in the sun, with really good, clever lyrics)
-Gatsby's American Dream "Volcano" (AP.net's propaganda department is working! Thanx!)
-Hot Hot Heat "Elevator" (Been a fan for a while, and this record didn't disappoint! Dance motherfuckas!)

So there you have it, but because there are so many upcoming albums I'm really excited about, those 5 might not even go into my year-end best-of list. Anyway, let's keep the great albums and surprises coming!

and i'm sure i will love the new decemberists album.

Three to five is really hard since there were more than that that I really liked. These have gotten a lot of play though, more so far than the others I wanted to include.

Bright Eyes, "I'm Wide Awake It's Morning" and "Digital Ash in a Digital Urn"
Decemberists, "Picaresque"
M. Ward, "Transistor Radio"
Of Montreal, "The Sunlandic Twins"

Armor For Sleep - What To Do When You Are Dead
Anberlin - Never Take Friendship Personal
Norma Jean - O' God, The Aftermath
The Sound Of Animals Fighting - Tiger And The Duke

The Snake The Cross The Crown - Mander Salis, thats from November, but my god, it's fucking incredible

close followers are: Anberlin, Mae, Eisley, The Academy Is..., Copeland, Hot Hot Heat, and Forever Changed.

[QUOTE=rawrockillsAnyone care discuss the worst albums so far? Or the biggest let downs?[/QUOTE]

Four biggest letdowns

Over It-Silverstrand-I know its getting a lot of play on this site, but I liked them better when they weren't imitating the SoCal sound that got overplayed 5 years ago.

Open Hand-You and Me-Trustkill=Stoner-rock???

Plain White T's-I prefer the real Jimmy Eat World to the knockoff

V/A-Policia- Aside from the amazing cover by Motion City Soundtrack this just didn't do a thing for me. The copeland cover is horrible it sounds too much like Chris Carraba trying to channel Ben Folds. Awful.

The Starting Line - Based On A True Story

I just couldn't get into it for some reason.

I also was disappointed by plain white t's new release " All That We Needed" and I was a huge fan of "Stop"

TylerDurden911
05/08/05, 12:24 PM
Biggest letdown so far: A Static Lullaby "Faso Latido"
Even though I don't think it's as awful as a lot of people tend to say, it is still a letdown... I was a huge fan of "And don't forget to breathe", which has been in my player for the last two years, and their new one just doesn't compare. In the last issue of AltPress, they compared the change to the one Hopesfall have gone through on "A Types". I also HATED that album when it came out, but It's actually grown on me a lot. You have to forget the band's past to accept the new sound, and maybe, although I doubt it, the same thing will happen with the latest ASL...

funny that there are no mentions of a change of pace? although perhaps not considered original by most, "an offer you can't refuse" is definitely better than pretty much EVERY album that anyone has listed on these past 6 pages. perhaps they're still just under the radar at the moment. no wait, i think it is better than any other album out this year so far, sorry about that. over it's silverstrand is another great album that hardly anyone has mentioned. throw in some emanuel and some spitalfield to taste.
