I asked Ra'Chel to marry me on Saturday and she said yes. I've been meaning to come in here and tell you guys but it has been a busy weekend. Discuss engagement.
By the way, I'm expecting plenty of the "you're too young" posts but I've never been one to act on emotion. I've thought about this for awhile and I know what I want.
Edit: I was smoking A LOT of pot back then and was going through a pretty major depressive episode. Contrary to the original post, I did not know what I wanted haha.

Yeah, it was nice. I had asked her on the phone the night before and she said yes but I told her I wanted to do an official one with a ring and getting down on one knee and all that stuff. So I took her out there and we're talking, knowing that the proposal is about to happen.
Her: Dion... please don't make a scene.
Me: What are you talking about? Why would I make a scene? [/sarcastic]
Her: I swear to God, Dion, if you make a scene I'll say no in front of everybody.
Me: Really?
Her: ... Dion, pleaseeeee.
I didn't make too much of a scene though.

definitely. i would say im still too immature and selfish to get married. For now most of my focus is placed on getting a job & moving out to the city. Once i have that stability...ill go hunting for a husband.
I'm also not a fan of weddings, so i'm dreading that time when everyone you know suddenly decides to get married and you have a dozen weddings to attend in a span of 2 years.
to the OP: sorry for being such a wah wah in your happy thread.

same same same.
i tried to start up a relationship over the summer, but the moment school started it went to shit.
and aside from the depression that might set in afterwards, i'm kinda looking forward to that "wedding season" of sorts...open bars are delicious.

The whole idea of 'a dozen weddings in the span of 2 years' freaks me out even though I know it'll happen.
I feel like when that happens, you're kind of pressured to do something. Should be interesting though, dating among my friends is like ugh it's bad. We're all extremely bad at the dating game lol

Getting engaged is weird to think about for me at this point in life. It's also weird to me that people pick out an age they want to get engaged/married at. I guess just cause I think it shouldn't matter when it happens but just if it feels right.
i'm so glad i hang out with a bunch of immature mf'ers who are anti-marriage and anti-children, hahaha.hahaha dude, i moved down here after college to be with my lady friend (now my wife) and every single one of our friends here is married/engaged/in a long term relationship. two of the couples who've been married now for 2+ years keep talking about children and it is frightening. none of them are older than 27. but yeah anyway, no kids for us until 30. now is the time for travel and xbox 360.

you should hang in Raleigh - my friends range in age from early 20s-early 30s, none of whom are married or have kids yet. There's a couple of peripheral people in our friend group with a kid but they're the minority.

Been shopping around for engagement rings for the last month. I think the question is going to get popped in St. Maarten in a few weeks. Maybe on a mountain or something. If that's too cliche then maybe deep sea fishing. I'll hide the ring in the mouth of a barracuda, I haven't worked out all the details yet.

Nothing is too cliche. Do whatever you think will surprise her. And it doesn't always go to plan anyway...I was going to take her out to dinner and on a walk through campus, but I couldn't wait once I got the ring (I thought I'd spill the secret)...and when she came to visit she was super tired, so she went to bed and I ended up waking her up kneeling by the bed and asking her. She was shocked and surprised. Just go with your gut, dude.
Also, most places take some time to mold the ring in her size, put the diamond in, etc...it took me about a month to get it from when I ordered it. Just fyi.

Yeah that's the thing, I want to surprise her and I think she kind of expects me to ask her in St. Maarten so I'm thinking about waiting for a moment when she won't expect it at all. Thanks for the advice dude, congrats.
Le sigh...
Congratulations to those who have gotten engaged because I'm not a totally cold-hearted bitch, buttt...
It seems like getting engaged young is almost becoming "trendy" (at least in my town, where everyone my age is either engaged, married or having illegimate children). I'm 23 and I can't imagine getting married at this point in my life. I'm still paying off student loans and figuring out what I want to do with my life. I don't want to have to take into account or take responsibilty for someone else's life. Call it selfish, but at this stage in your life, I think you're allowed to be a little selfish!
Watching people that are so young and in some cases, still in school get engaged and married is driving me a little nuts to be honest. I have a bad feeling that most of these marriages will ultimately end in divorce. Maybe I'm a little cynical, but I will probably be waiting until I'm close to 30 before settling down and getting married.

I definitely understand where you're coming from, but you might have a different perspective on it if you were with the person that you are absolutely certain you want to spend the rest of your life with.
