haha that was a pretty good read. It doesn't sound like he wants to make this like a Simple Plan album and release 10 songs as singles.
I like this line:

It sucks that anybody that reads that that isn't familiar with independent record labels will get a negative view of them.

oh and by the way, taking back sunday already has major label distribution, much like dashboard confessional is distributed by interscope but still has the vagrant logo on it... so the whole major/indie battle is sort of a waste of caring for tbs. if your record makes it in the top 3, signing with a major isn't going to change much... you're already on the radio and have a mass of fans.

Warner bought out their contract for 5 mil. Old news.
EDIT: and that's why Victory had that recent splurge of signings (With Honor, the Forecast, the Tossers, Sinai Beach, Aiden, etc.). Where do you think they got the money?

1.) They have already signed to a major (the only way to ever get off Victory)
2.) I doubt Victory would really just give in and get rid of their largest band on their roster because a band is saying mean things and being "crafty"

im not saying they wanna sign with a major....im just saying theyre unhappy with victory......and theyve done alot more than just say "mean things". is it just me or did they just make a complete retarded video for their label, refuse to put out another single, and claim they are gonna watch fireworks every wekk in the same location without touring? it sounds like theyre almost going on strike? or is this all just me?

hahaha i love them and their hilarious antics. its awesome when they mess with people like that
i also detect a parting with Victory Records. I don't think they want to make another video, because it seems they are distancing themselves as much as possible from Victory. Maybe they don't want to do anything more involved with that label and dig themselves a deeper hole in the land of contracts and debt with the aformentioned label

They aren't off of Victory just yet. Terms have been drafted by Warner and agreed on by Victory, but nothing has been offically signed. Until the contracts are signed, they're still on Victory. Victory will hold out as long as they can. They've counter-offered which includes un-heard of deal points such as excelerated re-coupment and 50/50 profit sharing. TBS's management won't agree to anything like that because they want a cut of the big fat signing bonus (in the millions), even though excelerated re-coupment and 50/50 profit sharing would benefit the band in the long term. Its TBS's management that wants them off Victory, not the band.

I wonder if Victory Records is really as bad as everyone says. i mean Thursday, Atreyu, and now Taking Back Sunday all have had something bad to say about Victory.
I wonder whats gonna happen after TBS and Atreyu leave? Whos gonna fill in the gap. Hawthorne Heights or the gay maria sure aren't. I think this label has been devoid of talent after Thursday left.

I was actually agreeing with you. I believe they are completely unhappy with Victory. It seems to me, compared to most labels their size, Victory doesn't shell out nearly the same money into their bands pockets. I mean TBS has a gold record now, they should be pretty loaded...and this doesn't seem to be the case (granted they aren't hurting). Yeah, I'm rambling

i think the real issue is that no one ever likes the label they are on after they are successful. but not only that, if you take a look at how things are really going relationshipwise, victory gave tbs everything and anything they could, and its a business. victory can't do anything more for tbs, and tbs doesn't owe victory anything. that's how businesses work. bands like tbs are a shot in a million to make it mainstream big (not that tbs quite got there, but close) so why not sign the 2 + 2 or 3 + 2 album deal and just see what happens? every band treats their label like they are the oppressive parents who make their young kids go to bed when its still sunny outside. thats just how the relationship of artist + label works. an label needs to need the artist more than the artist needs them in order to have power. and now that victory needs tbs more than tbs needs them, the relationship sours. it happens in most cases. the hawthorne heights comment before made me laugh. thats part of the problem between tbs and victory. victory used tbs to blow hh up, and hh thinks they did it on their own. tbs isn't into being used anymore. guess they are in the wrong industry tho ;) its not just victory, its drive thru, its vagrant, its any label that tries to act like they are a family instead of a business, and as soon as they act like a business people get their feathers ruffled.

How could they expect to receive any money from that album it sold 40K, 50K tops...that's not enough to re-coup at all. People and bands think that you get money from album sale #1 and that's not how it works at all.
victory used tbs to blow hh up, and hh thinks they did it on their own. tbs isn't into being used anymore. guess they are in the wrong industry tho ;) its not just victory, its drive thru, its vagrant, its any label that tries to act like they are a family instead of a business, and as soon as they act like a business people get their feathers ruffled.
Victory used Thursday to launch TBS and Thursday got pissed at them, perhaps youu are too young to remember. Victory will use HH to launch some other craptacular screamo band and then they'll get pissed and want out. This is called marketing. I'm really surprised other labels haven't used their bigger acts to launch new ones. Like him or hate him, Tony Brummel is a marketing genius. His reputation aside, he knows how to sell records and NO ONE can argue that point. He's the biggest indie out there right now for a reason.

Ok kids here is how it works. Bands sign to Victory because its a big label and get records in stores. Also like drive thru there is a built in crowd that will buy your records no matter what. These bands are so excited to have records in stores that they don't read their contracts very well, or dont think they will ever sell enough that they should be making any money from sales anyway. TBS, Thursday, Ateryu, Refused and every other band on Victory doesn't see a fucking dime from their sales. They make their money through touring their asses off and getting companies to give them free shit. That is why they always have nice clothes and new gear. Because people give them free shit hoping kids will see it and also buy it so they look like their fav. bands. Hear you me, Hawthorn will be saying the samethings once their album goes Gold, which (saddly) should be any day now. BTW how low are scene points right now? Come on kids lets see if we can get those shitty things down lower! Viva Me!

I had the pleasure of watching the video with TBS and laugh they did. The kids who did the video had fun with it and its cool that some bands will take the time to look at (and listen to) stuff that thier fans send them. It shows a connection with the peeps (fans) that support them. So onward TBS, we like seeing bands that smile alot and have fun at what they are doing. Peace

Thursday was anoyed with victory over a few things... one I am sure of was the out of control ways that the label choose to promote the band.. they actualy made up thursday woopie cousions... thats one thing that anoyed the band.. I want to also say that there was an argument over lyrics in the album jackets.. but that might have been another band... yeah but theres alot of things people don't know about victory.. take for example the first release of victory style 5.. that had a version of Wanders Guild by Armor For Sleep on it.. AFS wasnt under contract to victory they just choose to print the song on VS5.. Armor was kind of confused as to why the hell they did that considering that they had not signed with victory... strange stuff right?

Think about it, if you were in a band and a label as notorious as Victory, who are known to showcase bands that blow up after large amounts of non-stop marketing, would you reject it? I think most of these bands could give a shit about having to deal with that fuck Tony, as they start to gain popularity. i think the real issue is that no one ever likes the label they are on after they are successful. but not only that, if you take a look at how things are really going relationshipwise, victory gave tbs everything and anything they could, and its a business. victory can't do anything more for tbs, and tbs doesn't owe victory anything. that's how businesses work. bands like tbs are a shot in a million to make it mainstream big (not that tbs quite got there, but close) so why not sign the 2 + 2 or 3 + 2 album deal and just see what happens? every band treats their label like they are the oppressive parents who make their young kids go to bed when its still sunny outside. thats just how the relationship of artist + label works. an label needs to need the artist more than the artist needs them in order to have power. and now that victory needs tbs more than tbs needs them, the relationship sours. it happens in most cases. the hawthorne heights comment before made me laugh. thats part of the problem between tbs and victory. victory used tbs to blow hh up, and hh thinks they did it on their own. tbs isn't into being used anymore. guess they are in the wrong industry tho ;) its not just victory, its drive thru, its vagrant, its any label that tries to act like they are a family instead of a business, and as soon as they act like a business people get their feathers ruffled.
i haven't heard anyone talk shit on saddle creek yet, and they act like a family. the different is, they keep it like a family. i understand every label can't do it like they do, but they seem to keep a perfectly fine relationship with all their bands, even ones who have left (rilo kiley...).

Victory used Thursday to launch TBS and Thursday got pissed at them, perhaps youu are too young to remember.
Youre absolutely right. I mean, about the labels using other bands to launch other bands. That's all I was saying. Every label does it, some just with more tact or more sly than others.
You're not right about the too young to remember thing. I mean, unless 28 is young. I don't know these days :)
