So I realised that this band didnt have a thread yet and me being completely in love with their music decided to do it. Anything to do with them should be discussed here! If youve never heard of Protest The Hero,
Protest the Hero (often abbreviated as PTH or simply Protest) is a Canadian Mathcore band from Whitby (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitby,_Ontario), Ontario (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ontario). The Protest line-up has stayed the same since the band formed in 1999, when they were just 12 years old. They originally used the name Happy Go Lucky, but changed their name before releasing their firstEp, A Calculated Use of sound which was followed by the release of their first full length,Kezia , on the Indie label Underground Operations. Their second full length, Fortress was officially released by Underground Operations in Canada and by Vagrant Records worldwide on January 29, 2008.( Wikipedia)
They are soon to embark on a mini us tour with As I Lay Dying,The Human Abstract and My Children My BRide.

I liked this band a few months ago and they were one of the original reasons I joined AP. Not so much anymore.
Not mathcore in any way.

They are like The Fall of Troy for me. Go through cycles of loving them and then not listening.

that's at least an acceptable guilty pleasure. especially because you know it.
As for PtH, they're pretty damn good. My friends saw them live not too long ago - I couldnt make the show - and they said that although they hit all the notes, they were really drunk and out of tune so it kinda sounded like ass.
Which is kinda shitty.
Fortress is a badass album though, even if the lyrics tend to be on the stupid side. The music is pretty high quality.

Honestly, I don't know how you could expect to go to a PtH show and expect the members not be too drunk to play correctly. I think they even talk about how often that happens in their blogs..

siq brag, though I wish I had a physical copy of the ACUOS EP.

Fortress is superb. Definitely the best direction they could have gone after Kezia.
I'll always love Kezia for nostalgic purposes as well, but Fortress just has more "umph" to it and kicks my ass every listen, so in that respect I prefer it over Kezia.
I've seen them live twice (would be thrice if they didn't bail out halfway on that atrocious Silverstein tour) and they are just on the top of their game performance-wise. Rody Walker is also really badass to talk to.
This interview is pure gold:

Fortress is fricken awesome, although I think they have more appreciation amongst musicians than just music fans. The guitar playing especially is frickin awesome.

Fortress is far and away their best, for me.
"I Am Dmitri Karamazov And The World Is My Father" from A Calculated Use Of Sound is still my favourite Protest song, though.
Seeing 'em in a few days with In Flames, Killswitch, and BTBAM. Can't wait for them to steal the show :D
