Finally a Wallace sighting, I wasn't sure if he was ever coming back. Tonight was my favorite since the second half started (which might seem creepy since it heavily featured an eleven year old girl, but the Nick Lachey song was fucking hilarious.) And the preview for next week looked incredible.

Yeah I agree this was one of the much better episodes of the season. I've got to say, though, if they do get picked up for a fourth season (I don't care where) then I think they should go back to the season long mystery again...it just makes the show more exciting.

Just finished watching the episode on Itunes.

Best episode of the season by far. The stuff with logan and veronica was very well done, and the radio request/elevator scene was perfect. I loved it.

And the ending; oh man. That kind of stuff is what made season 1 and 2 so fantastic. Cannot wait for next week.

I mean in my area; because Virginia Tech is a big deal, I'm sure they pre-emptied VMars to show the game live.

That episode was incredible. I've been frustrated by the lack of a season long arc, but when it's come down to it the rape and O'dell arcs have been awesome too. I don't know, I still really love this show. It was nice seeing Logan have some vitality today, hopefully he keeps it up and becomes Logan again as opposed to "person who reacts to things Veronica does exclusively."

Will Veronica take over the PI business or what?

They have that episode and then another hiatus. After hiatus they come back for something like 4 episodes. Atleast that was my understanding.

That episode was by FAR the best of the season and really had me going back to Season 1 as great, great television. It was funny, and sooo much happened in such a short time without it seeming too forced or rushed. The plot points were great, too. I like Logan and Parker, and am interested to see where they go with that. Actually, I'm assuming that Veronica gets jealous, goes to Piz, then there's a big hoopla.

Sad that lamb got killed of, i loved his wit (and laughed at the fact that he shot a mirror)

I hope this show doesn't get canceled. It's one of the shows that I actually go out of my way to watch.

i think/hope they have a huge reason behind killing off lamb. you don't do that and make Mars take over as head sheriff without a huge reason in mind.

i can't wait to find out what it is.

I like Piz. They mentioned my hometown, Beaverton on the show

"Portland. Well, just outside of Portland, a little suburb called Beaverton. Real salt of the Earth people. You know, minivan in every driveway, chicken in every pot"

The description kind of made me go WTF? Beaverton is actually huge, but I didn't expect a TV show to get that right.

I kept spacing out during tonight's episode. I'll go watch it on the CW's website later though.

yeah, i was pretty shocked that he was killed off. I considered him to be one of the main characters on the show. And Mars taking over so fast? Kinda weird.

yeah, good thing they cancelled American Idol, House, The Simpsons, 24 before they got big!

Oh wait.

You can only blame Fox so much for Arrested Development. They promoted the living shit out of that show the first season, and a good amount the 2nd season. Nobody cared. Nobody got it.

including fx, and starting with shows that i love that may show bias:

firefly, the tick, wonderfalls, starved.

and others:

greg the bunny, undeclared, action, profit, the adventures of briscoe county jr., cracking up.

those are just ones off the top of my head, i'm sure there's more. all could have been relatively successful and earned their own crowd if given the chance, but most of them were pulled off the air before even getting that chance. not to mention admittedly fucking up with the cancellings of family guy and futurama.

and yes, i understand every network cancels a lot of shows, but the ones fox cancels are a lot of times very good.

and as cheesy as it could have been, they did an excellent job avoiding it being too cheesy to the point of hurting. they actually almost avoided cheesy altogether.

not to mention that jaye is probably my favorite tv character ever. i can't help but have a huge crush on her. she's fucking perfect.

I am officially glad that Veronica Mars is abandoning the mystery over multiple episodes deal. I am too tired to type out my reasoning though. The show was good, I guess. The writing was good, and I like where it's going. I just thought it was too predictable. They're running out of places they can go with the long mystery deal because everyone has figured out the way things go.

Predictable, but I really liked the presentation of it. Uniformly well acted, written, made, so on, so forth. The show is pretty damn consistent in actual quality of execution, it's just a question of whether the story is worthy to it. I've so far found all the stories worthy, but I know many will disagree.

Ohh no, I agree. It's consistantly excellent in every aspect. And all of the stories have been worth it. But, you could tell from the begining of the season that the TA was evil, and probably some sort of murderer.

I disagree. If the show comes back for a fourth season, i'd love them to go back to the season-long mystery, if only for the fact that he was good enough at that to completely surprise me with the villian. I knew who killed the Principal about five minutes into this last episode.

I definitely have to agree that the season long mystery is the way to go. Last night's episode was pretty disappointing and predictable. Thank you! Wallace has been sorely missed this year, I think that is tied with Logan being sulky as the worst turn for the season. Plus, I either like Veronica with Logan or pretty much no one at all, so Piz wouldn't fit. They're trying to fit a square peg in a round hole there.

Also, for those that do not know, the last five episodes of the season are standalone episodes, with no story arc whatsoever. Supposedly the cast is very excited about this, but I don't buy it. We'll see how it works, I have no idea but I think they can pull it off. It just will be weird going from season long mysteries, to small arc mysteries, to no overarching mysteries.

03/01/07, 03:16 AM
i (finally) just finished. itunes was like 9 hours late on adding this episode and it was frustrating me.

i think the lsat 4 episodes of the season/quarter season or whatever were solid. yes, the villan was quite predictable, but I would rather have a solid ending to a season like they executed and not be as surprised than have a huge twist and it not make sense and be executed sloppy. i think they made the right call here; they ended on a very solid note and that is way more important than dropping jaws.

i really hope they go back to a season long mystery as well, things flow smoother and it makes it so much more intriguing. i will miss vmars until may, but i really hope these last 5 episodes are fucking killer.

if they don't get picked up for a 4th season, who wants to invest in a fund large enough to buy the rights to the show and get it aired?

I just read that they might bring it back, but if they do it's going to take place 4-5 years in the future and Veronica will be working for the FBI. I can't say I would be a fan of that, but if it keeps VM around, I'd give it a chance.

ghostyouare
03/16/07, 12:03 PM
Thursday, 10:11 p.m.: You may have seen my earlier report that Veronica Mars has been canceled.

Well, let me just say that though I heard this heart-wrenching info from six—yes, six—reliable sources on both the network and studio sides and that the "cancellation" rumor ran rampant around all sectors of Hollywood today, apparently the picture is more complex than a straight canceled-or-not-canceled scenario.

At this hour, here's what I can tell you:

I just heard from Veronica mastermind and showrunner Rob Thomas, who told me, "If we're canceled, I certainly don't know about it."

According to CW insiders, the network has not officially canceled Veronica Mars. However, here's the catch: It is currently considering a different format for the fourth season. From what I hear, that format would leap four years into the future and focus on Veronica as an FBI agent. Aside from returning star Kristen Bell (duh), the rest of the cast is yet to be determined, but it isn't likely that many of her current costars would be on hand.

So, bottom line: Veronica Mars could be: (1) spinning off into a new format, (2) returning in her college years or (3) getting axed.

And let me just say, number three is indeed a very real possibility, so it is most definitely time to rally the troops before it's too late!

If you care about Veronica Mars and want it to survive (and if you're a fan of good TV, I know you do!), please comment below with your name and message of support. And email your friends the link to this column so they can do the same. (I will forward your comments to the powers that be at the CW.)

Then please send a "Save Veronica" postcard or letter to:

Dawn Ostroff
President of Entertainment, The CW Television Network
4000 Warner Blvd., Bldg 168
Burbank, CA 91522-0002

And pardon me while I hop on my soapbox and advise the CW: Canceling Veronica Mars would be a mistake of epic proportions. It is by far the best thing going on the Green Net and one of the most addictive, smart, funny and well-written series ever to air. The fans would not take its demise lightly.

(P.S. That Pussycat show makes me want to gouge out my eyes.)

Friday, 9:22 a.m.: After speaking with very reliable sources this morning, I can tell you the following:

1. Creator Rob Thomas is shooting a five- to six-minute featurette of a new version of Veronica Mars, which is one of three options the CW is considering for next season.

2. This new Veronica version takes place four years in the future, and features Veronica as a full-fledged FBI agent. (This morning's Hollywood Reporter incorrectly reports that in the new featurette, Veronica is still in the FBI Academy.)

3. Kristen Bell is the only castmember who is part of this "FBI years" trailer/featurette. It is not yet known which other castmembers would come on board if the CW chooses this option. Veronica's current cast and crew were informed of the featurette yesterday (hence, the widespread panic and cancellation rumors running rampant—and my panic attack).

4. For better or worse, Veronica's fate has not yet been decided. So, keep reading and show your support below in the comments section. (By the way, never before have I seen comments pile up so fast and so strong anywhere on E! Online. Keep 'em coming!)

theyre actually thinking fast-forwarding it to veronica into the FBI academy not the FBI itself. but thats only another option the creators are thinking about. at the end of the day itll be up the fat cats at the CW to decide if they are gunna pick up for another season or not, and if they do, whether they wanna continue the current timeline or fast-forward.

I don't think I'd mind the FBI change. The college thing hasn't seemed to work out too well so far.

I think if it changes to the FBI format, it'd have a better chance of having multi-episode mysteries. That's the part of the show that really keeps me watching. If they left her in college and moved to the stand-alone episode format, I think it'd be a huge blow to the quality of the show.

chokeychicken
04/04/07, 02:46 PM
i really hope the FBI format works; I personally didn't think the college thing was that bad. It could have been done a lot better, however. The entire rape thing has already been done before, and I suppose there are only so many VMars-worthy mysteries that happen on a college campus - I enjoyed season 3, its still better than most television, but can't hold a candle to 1 and 2, obviously.

i hope the writers realize what a fan base they have and the potential this show has, and really do something special with the FBI thing.

unfortunately, i think that's exactly what the CW doesn't want from the show as it isolates new viewers. i think they just need to juggle both multi and single episode mysteries like season 1 to keep everyone happy.

I was thinking the same thing, those songs sounded pretty decent. Was that really Paul Rudd singing? I'm pretty excited Leo's back, because while I don't hate Piz, the Leo-Veronica relationship was way better. Hopefully it gets renewed and he stays on. And even though Vinny Van Lowe is a douche, he's one of the best parts of the show. Every once in a while I find myself randomly singing "Veronica Mars, I'm watching you" Hall and Oates style.

More good news for Veronica Mars fans:

On May 9 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/May_9), 2007 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2007), TV Guide (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_Guide)'s Michael Ausiello (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Ausiello) reported in his blog that president of The CW (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_CW), Dawn Ostroff (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dawn_Ostroff) had responded well to a trailer for the reworked show. According to this post, a title change for the show is also being considered. The show's chances are said to be looking better following the cancellation of the long-running CW show Gilmore Girls (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gilmore_Girls).[14] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Veronica_mars#_note-IGN)

This season, while I do enjoy it, is missing the use of it's core characters. We've seen a decent amount of Keith, Logan mostly only with Veronica when they were still a couple, and Wallace was almost non-existant for the first half of the season. Don't even get me started on the lack of Weevil. I've begun to think that he's not even a regular anymore...

I worry about this idea of a future FBI Veronica...because I've heard that there will probably be a great purging of the characters we've come to love (or hate).

Well it sounds like it's coming back for a 4th season in some form or another now.

I heard they might change the name of the show if they switch to the FBI format. I think that might help the ratings a little bit because a lot of guys write off the show based solely on the name.

With the right name, I'm sure it could have some success. The title Veronica Mars turns some people off to the show right away because it sounds like a show for teenage girls.

Anyway, great news that it'll come back in some form.

While they may not have showed up in every episode, they still showed up in the majority of them during seasons one and two. Now, not so much. Even Keith has been relegated to limited time in some cases to one brief scene an episode. Maybe it's part of the "transition" from high school to college and meeting new people, etc..., but I miss the characters that we've spent so much time getting to know in the past two seasons.

I won't be surprised if the FBI scenario gets the official green light that we see less and less of Keith Mars. I hope that doesn't turn out to be the case, but I can't help but think it.

And I can do without Piz and Parker. Piz was brought in for the sole purpose of breaking up LoVe. Plain and simple. The most I know about him is that he loves music, which is a bonus, and that he likes Veronica because it's brought up in just about every one of his scenes. Am I missing anything? I still find him to be as boring as his first episode and that will probably not change for the rest of his time on the show, which is only a few more episodes.

Actually no, it's not cancelled.

It's just the fall schedule, still a chance of a late renewal, especially if the CW's new shows fall flat.

Kristen Bell fans shouldn't storm the CW's corporate office yet. Though Veronica Mars isn't on the schedule, The Hollywood Reporter says a final decision on the show may not happen until next month.

i finally got to watch last weeks episode and after hearing the cancellation news, it really infuriated me. this episode was definitely my favorite episode in a long, long time. finally, we're back to good old fashioned vmars; it has the Neptune drama, it was a little bit of Logan and Veronica, it had a great mystery-ish .. it was a lot of the reasons i love this show so much. and i just look at the CW's schedule next season, and it makes my furious, because Vmars, when its good, really is a better show than most of the shows on secondary networks and even some on main networks. and the fact that its getting canned just shows how fucked up american television and its audience is.

with that said, i'm almost positive they've already filmed this weeks episode, which if i remember correctly, is the series finale. which also means that they've set up all this Veronica FBI stuff for nothing, and the series will end with all these loose ends untied. which is just frustrating as a viewer.

i really hope this show gets picked backed up - it has so much potential that it is leaving on the table.

i have so much to say about the finale, i'm not sure if i even have the energy to type it all.

first of all, my question goes like this; instead of squeezing the entire veronica sex tape thing into a 2 hour finale, why wasn't that the focus and season-long mystery of season 3? they could have made it so excellent with the involvement of wallace and everybody's secrets ..

stuff like that really gets to me because unlike a long running show like the gillmore girls, which has pretty much played out, this show had so much potential that was left against its will on the table. we'll never know what happens to veronica and logan or piz or the election or anything else.

but we sure as hell will get to choose the next pussy cat doll!

the last 3 episodes have really showed me how great this show is. season 3 was rocky, but every show has its rocky moments. 24 had a rocky season. lost was rocky. but those shows have time next year to correct their mistakes.

veronica does not.

i read an interview with rob thomas from the chicago tribune where he essentially talked about how most of the writers for the show have already accepted jobs else where and what a depressing state the VMARS office has been in.

and then he talked about how while the CW wants to talk to him and kristen about starting from scratch .. kristen would probably have none of it and would leave without question.

how does a show that's as good as this get driven into the ground?

i hate that i let myself get this attached to television shows.

I completely agree. I was watching this episode, wondering why the sex tape wasn't the season long mystery. With the computer, and secret society, this would have been ideal for that. And now i'll forever wonder what' it's all about.

I wish they had written an actual series finale now. If they don't wrap it up, the CW is a bunch of cruel bastards because that is no way to end a three year series. I keep thinking this is some kind of sick joke. Like some elaborate prank The CW is playing to fuck with VM fans. I just really don't understand how they could have possibly seen those last few episodes of VM and then cancelled it. Fuck, I mean, just seeing commercials for One Tree Hill during last nights VM finale, I started laughing at the show. It looked absolutely ridiculous and horrible, and yet they kept it (and stole VM's idea of moving forward a few years.)

And now I'm stuck to coming up with scenarios of how VM will come back. Like "maybe another network was in love with it and will pick it up" or "maybe they'll make a tv movie, or shit, maybe a real movie to wrap it up". And I know that none of this will happen.

To paraphrase the comments of a reader with whom I frequently exchange e-mail (Hello, Wendy), the demise of "Veronica Mars" has me sadder than I thought I'd be (despite seeing this coming a long way off), and also a little relieved.

Am I relieved that this wonderful three-year old drama, which has its series finale 7 p.m. Tuesday on WGN-Ch. 9, is ending for good? No. I'm relieved that fans of the show will be spared another year of nail-biting over whether the CW network would ax the show, mess around with its scheduling (again) or change it beyond recognition into something that might demean the legacy of Ms. Mars and her memorable friends and family.

I still remember picking the "Mars" DVD off the giant pile of pilots for fall 2004. I hadn't heard much about the show, and watching the very first "Veronica Mars" episode, I had the reaction that is one of the best things about this job: I felt like I'd seen something really special, and I couldn't wait to tell the world.

During the last three seasons, I've had my share of quibbles with the show, but none of that matters now. All I'm thinking about is that I'm going to miss the distinctive banter Veronica traded with her equally witty, acerbic friends. I'm going to miss watching a drama in which a young, intelligent woman uses her brains and perceptive abilities to explore the darker corners of the human heart (including her own). I'm going to miss the memorable array of guest stars and supporting characters (even, or especially, the enjoyably sleazy competing detective Vinnie Van Lowe).

I think what I may miss most is Veronica's relationship with her father, Keith Mars. Kristen Bell, who plays Veronica, has rightly received a truckload of glowing press notices for her work as the tightly wound, emotionally resilient young detective. Thanks to Bell's compassionate, intelligent approach to the role, Veronica wasn't as brittle or off-putting as she could have been (occasionally she was brittle, yet in a very witty way). But when Veronica was hurting, she often didn't say a word. Thanks to Bell's performance, she didn't have to. You just knew.

As Keith, Enrico Colantoni was the unsung hero of the Keith-Veronica relationship. Keith was funny, smart, wise and tough as nails. You knew that Keith would do anything for his daughter, and that he loved her ferociously. Even when she disappointed him, he never doubted her intelligence and the fact that, despite all her travails, she had a good, kind heart.

Truly, they had one of the best, if not the best, parent-child relationship on television. I'll miss that. And I'll miss Jason Dohring as Logan; Logan and Veronica's on-screen chemistry, even when the couple wasn't together, was sizzling.

Every year, "Veronica Mars" has been in trouble, thanks to its low ratings. So the fact that the show is ending is not a huge surprise. Still, it stings. Add to that the fact that the CW is going to air another edition of that witless Pussycat Dolls show (which, ugh, got better ratings than "Veronica Mars") and silly fare such as "The Farmer Wants a Wife" and, well, what is there to say? Let us all curse silently, using the colorful epithets we love best.

Still, there's a small part of me that was prepared to let "Veronica Mars" go. I'd rather have the show go out now than suffer through endless network wrangling over in what creative direction it should next head. And to be brutally honest, I was more desperate for "Friday Night Lights" and "30 Rock" to get additional seasons (which they will -- thank you, NBC). "Veronica Mars" had its shot. It didn't make it, and that makes me sad, but we can't say we didn't see this coming.

I know fans are putting together petitions to save the show, but I'm going to thank the cast, crew and writers for three great seasons, and let Ms. Mars go.
