I was thinkin about the same thing! its just some people in white dancing. I find it more interesting and entertaining than those music videos where the band is in a room just playing the song. Controversial.. HA(!) what a joke. Looks like good ole fashion hungarian dance troupe! hee hee

I honestly think this is a shot by victory records. They stated they didn't want to make video's any more so Victory responded with something stupid like that to make them look like idiots.

Who knows, I just don't think a band would waste their time making a video like this if there wasn't some justified intent and reason to do so. I don't know.

Yeah, I find it really hard to believe TBS would make a video like that , Wasn't the video delivered on one of their door steps ? and in the post earlier the band didn't seem to to pleased with it as well..... They were kinda making fun of it etc ,so I definitely believe this is a cheap takin by Victory , considering that Taking Back Sunday said they didn't want to make video any more which means less money for Victory , and just recently Taking Back Sunday leaving the label, Adam has also been complaining and stating how much they suck at recent concerts etc , so they're is definitely a little thing is going on and I truly believe this is dirty work done by Victory.

Call me numbed by the media these days...but if this video is "controversial," then we need to get rid of the people who make the decisions about what the definition of "controversial" is...give me a fucking break!!! Is break-dancing controversial??? Is a few kids eating sandwiches considered inappropriate for the eyes of mainstream television???

Or is it possible that this whole thing is just a lame-ass promo stunt??? Have I been sold hook, line, and sinker into this cunning ruse??? :ugly7:

I haven't read any of the other posts...they probably all go over this EXACT same thing. Man, sometimes I just don't like stuff...as lame as that may sound.

As for album 2 of TBS, it's fine -- what did you want? A Snickers to come out of the CD case with it as well? Nobody is satisfied these days.

So... apparently people aren't entitled to "opinions" (look it up for an exact definition if you aren't familiar with that word). You saying "it's fine" isn't going to cause me to say..."Ahhh... ya know what... this kid has a hell of a point, I'm wrong for thinking the album sucks". And to answer your question, no, I didn't want a snickers to come in the CD case, as a matter of fact, I don't even like caramel. What I do like, however, is a CD with decent production and a singer who doesn't sing from his nose and sound like complete shit. (this is all my opinion, take it with a grain of salt). The reason why "Nobody is satisfied these days" is because less and less lasting and solid bands are coming out. Name me three artists from this "scene" who you think will be around for decades to come like The Rolling Stone, The Who, Zeppelin, Guns N Roses etc.... there's a very solid reason why people aren't satisfied... especially in an era where you are forced to wait three years for band's to release a new record. Also, how did I not have a sense of humor?... I didn't even watch the goddamn video, nor did I comment on the quality of it... I have no clue what the hell you're talking about.

I will also stand by them too. I love both albums and they are still one of my favorite bands. I know a lot of people on here change their views about bands more than they change their underwear. A couple of weeks ago Fall Out Boy were like Gods, and once one bad review comes out a lot of people are changing their opinion about them. Fuck it, if your a fan of the band Stay Loyal, don't change your mind because someone on this staff trahes them all the time. (this is my first post being negative to a staff member or anything to do with absolutepunk.net, I love the site and all of the staff, but I just see something wrong when everyone just goes negative about one band all the time.)

great thing about ap.net... is there is a diverse staff that listens to a wide aray of music.. dont be suprised if one doesnt like your band.. chances are, another does... in the grand sceme of things its music. Its as objective as political philsophy, which is why we love it. There are so many kinds of music that make us feel so much more than others. When it all comes down to it, keep that band sacred to you, keep those lyrics trapt in your mind, and don't let what anyone says change who you are, and what you enjoy.. if you like tbs, rock on. If you don't.. then keep rockin out to whatever turns your crank. Too many ppl including myself take it as a personal attack when someone rips up another band. It's not an attack on you... Frank seems like a decent person with a good taste in music, so all their opinions are valid to many... shes not looking for the approval of everyone though.. i think we all, including myself need to stop taking this band bashing personally, and lets just embrace what we all have in common.. music

personally, I think TBS' new album blows horribly. I loved "Tell All Your Friends" but WWYTB just didnt cut it for me. I respect anyone who thinks otherwise, and if you dig them, buy their albums, shirts, merchandise, I don't give a fuck. But don't come into the forums and use a subjective feeling as offense for an argument in hopes of making me feel guilty or wrong in thinking what I think. It's downright idiotic.

They have sucked for quite a while now. However, the only reason they suck is because bands arent smart enough when they sign their contracts, and Victory fucks them.

In any event, I dont think this video is serious. Besides, TBS thrives on controversy, so they probably concocted this with the label.

I still think Where You Want To Be is the most overtrashed album I can think of. I can't remember an album getting beaten to death mercilessly like this when it wasn't, in fact, all that bad. It's weird... Under The Cork Tree isn't enough of a change from a previous release, so it gets bashed for that, but when TBS changed their sound, people decide to hate them for that, wanting more of the same, or something. Where You Want To Be wasn't a stellar album, by any means, but it was a lot better than everyone here makes it out to be. 6.8-7 out of 10, in my opinion, an above-average album. I bet that even if the only thing that changed on the album was switching the credits from Fred Mascherino to John Nolan, review scores and opinions would change drastically.

Anyways, back to the topic at hand, the video was funny, but only for a one shot kinda deal. I would get sick of seeing it on TV soon enough.

I still find it amusing to me how assertive some people are to jump on a thread for the mere sake of hearing what someone else is gonna say and what this person is gonna say back, so on and so forth. Music is art. People can dislike music, video's what have you but you can't just say TBS blows ass because you don't find the music to your liking. It's complete crap. Another thing who the hell do some people think they are trying to get all techinical about issues like this arguing over a bands artistic merit, or the albums production quality, or the vocals, or the arrangements of the music. It's like a backdoor for these people so they can come off with "respect" from other people. Screw that shit. People need to just get off TBS's shit cuz truthfully nobody would be bashing them if deep down inside they weren't just a tad bit jealous over the success the band has had and that they're kicking themselves cuz they didn't stay on the bandwagon. People need to just move on with their lives and say you know what that video's different...i like it or i don't like it.

First of all Guns N Roses is comparible to Zeppelin? Ouch.
Second of all, you seem pretty bitter with this band so I'm pretty bitter to your responses, it makes sense, doesn't it? I like them, you don't. That's fine. You continue to whine about them, I whine about you. It's a lovely cycle, really.

When did I say "nobody in this scene has a chance"? I'd like you to skim through my posts and show me where that quote exists because I'm 99.9% sure it doesnt. Secondly, I help out bands because I love music, lasting or not, every hard working artist with talent deserves to be respected and helped out. As much as this "scene" lacks in a lasting sense, it would be 100% wrong of me to generalize and assume that all bands in this "scene" suck, because I do like a ton of them, but I do also understand a ton of them won't be around by 2006.

YOU CAN NOT USE A SUBJECTIVE STATEMENT AS THE FOUNDATION FOR AN ARGUMENT IN WHICH YOUR INTENTIONS ARE TO PROVE SOMEONE WRONG.... IT MAKES YOU LOOK LIKE A COMPLETE AND UTTER MORON. Also, when did I ever mention the names John Nolan or Fred?! I simply said their new cd was horrible... am I not entitled that opinion!? Do you have a problem with me thinking and feeling that!? OPEN YOUR MIND AND RESPECT MY FUCKING OPINIONS. You assuming that John or Fred has anything to do with me feeling the way I do, just makes you look more idiotic. Last but not least, if you think I need to rrecord a cd to be able to place judgement on something!? So... apparently people aren't entitled to "opinions" (look it up for an exact definition if you aren't familiar with that word). Just about every post you made about this made you look like an asshole. Whats wrong with what you call this "scene" are people like you. Not the bands that aren't going to be around in another couple of years. Chances are your the one thats not going to be around in a couple of years. I think way to many kids on here look up to the people that work for this site as the final answer to everything. If you post that the new FOB sucks..they say it sucks also..if Straylight Run is the most amazing thing to ever be put out..then its just that. Then there are the few that regardless of what you say still listen and love a band for the music they make. Something might not be original or ground breaking but as a musician I have respect for the band because they are writing their own music and doing there own thing. If something I hear is just to slow or to fast or whatever it maybe its just not my thing....it doesn't mean that it sucks or the album is a horrible piece of shit that should be used as a frisbee. In the beginning this whole punk rock/hardcore scene was a place of unity. For many reason, including people like you its everything but that. Some of the best albums ever recorded didn't have amazing production. i never said he was respectful of your opinion. but saying their cd is "fucking amazing" cannot be considered an argument, because you can't make an argument built with opinions, so i don't take what he said as an argument, rather how he feels. Just because the bands that you quoted, Rolling Stones, Zeppelin, etc, have stuck around a while doesn't mean they are necessarily good because they have longevity. the masses like them, but that's dependent upon the individual's subjective attitude towards a band or a cd. Greatness, awfulness of music cannot be argued, so when it's thrown around you just have to take it with a grain of salt and decide for yourself, as you did with your opinion the album (wywtb) blows. Neither opinion is right, because no opinion is.

I speak what I feel, I don't care what I look like. If speaking my opinion makes me look like a total douche bag, so be it, I don't care what some random people I don't know on an internet web page think of me. I made it perfectly clear I respect anyone who like this band, and I respect them as musicians. They work their asses off and tour, hence why I make news posts about them and inform the kids who are interested in hearing about them.... if I didn't respect them, I wouldn't post their music videos or tour dates and inform the ones who like them. But when I say "I think their new album is horrible".... why can't people say..."I respect that, I tend to think different because....", instead of saying, "Where You Want To Be is amazing, get over it! go record a cd!". Also, I never said there was anything "wrong" with this scene, so please stop putting words in my mouth because it seems to be the "thing" tonight. I like a lot of "scene" bands, and I have no problem listening to them, posting about them or attending their shows, but I also think there's a lot of "scene" garbage, such as Taking Back Sunday's Where You Want To Be. Once again... am I not entitled to think that? How come people can't accept it? I'm not personally insulting them, I'm not bashing anyone who likes them, I'm speaking my mind... is that fucking ok!? This is a fucking music forum. Sweet christ.

Did I quote you? I just summarized what you said..

I actually agree with you.. Probably for a different reason though. I don't think you will ever see another band blow up like the Beatles, The Who, The Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin.

The reason though is so many bands copy other bands, and people opinions are a lot different.. no longer do people only judge bands on if they like the music.. but what other people think of them... they may dislike a band because they get too popular and now its not just their secret anymore (if that makes sense).

Its classifed two ways:
People have changed for the worse, they are oblivious to these things.
Everyone walks a straight line..
Listen to whatever the radio plays. (The radio is paid to pump whatever record label pays the most that day)
Believes whatever they read or hear on tv.

The people who don't are more likely people on this site..
They care about music.. take time to find new bands.
When they find those bands before anybody else they love it..
Its when it gets on the radio and everyone starts to know the band.. slowly the disliking begins.

Plus there is way too many different genres anymore.. There is 100 different genres in just this "scene".

Anyways.. fuck it, I don't care anymore.

yeah, i agree with this. I mean, I can;t generalize and say..."all 'scene' bands arent lasting" bc there is some I think are. Acceptance, Bright Eyes, Anathallo, are a few I think have that sound. I like a shitload of scene stuff, I just dont dig the new TBS album unfortunately. I would love to like it and be able to dig it... but it's not my thing. i really need to see this. i hate dial up. would it be possible for anyone to send me this.. :-\ if thats not too much to ask. :-\

I'll send it to you in text form. You can start by closing your eyes.

Now, picture five kids, about 10-11 years old (I'm guessing), three boys and two girls. They're all dressed the same in white beaters and white pants, and four of the five have white headbands on. They're all on stage, in a school cafeteria-turned-auditorium.

Now, picture the dancing coach, who has an obviously fake mustache (one that's meant to be obviously fake -- very large and bushy), and is wearing a red track jacket with a tie. And he just kind of watches the kids dance on stage and gets mad from time to time.

So the kids dance to the song. Sort of ballet. Sort of flailing. And the lead girl sings along to the lyrics, although really crappily. And her upper lip is really dark and shaded and it makes it look like she has a mustache. But that's beside the point. They keep dancing.

Then they go upstairs and eat sandwiches. The coach's mustache falls off momentarily.

They huddle and break, then go back downstairs and dance some more.

There. That's the video. Hope you enjoyed it.

TAKING BACK SUNDAY DID NOT, I REPEAT, DID NOT MAKE, PRODUCE, FUND, ETC. THIS VIDEO IN ANY WAY, SHAPE OR FORM!

With that being said, Victory didn't either. A dance troupe made this video and TBS liked it so much and thought it was funny, well done, whatever and decided to release it. Now if it was a shot at Victory or if Victory is unhappy about it remains to be seen and, quite frankly, I don't care. However, for emphasis, TBS did not make this video let alone come up with the idea for it. It just landed on their front step one day.

I'm not sure that there will NEVER be another great great band. I simply don't think we can see that they're going to last. Personally, I think bands like the Red Hot Chili Peppers are going to last a long time in people's minds, especially with albums like Californication and By the Way. But, I think you're right in the sense that they might not be like the Beatles.

I heartily agree with the rest of your post.

I think it was made on purpose really, with intent. It's an adult treating kids, as, well, kids. I believe it's a metaphor for the troubles the band has with their own label, which some say have helped the band while others (including the band) claim they hold the band back. It's kind of funny it's "controversial" though. I mean, it really isn't funny at all. I see a deeper side to it. The adult tells the kids how to dance, what to do, when to do it, yells at them in the back room while they try to take a quick break and then motivates themt o go out there and finish it strong. Yes, I got all that from the actors saying nothing.

All of you are really, really close minded. I think the song is good, as well as the record. So what if it's more "mature" or even "boring" to some of you. The only thing that can make something bad in music is if the musician's themselves wrote the music for the wrong reasons.

Perhaps Victory has pushed TBS too far? Who knows? Few if any of us will ever know what goes on behind closed doors, but I'm sure most of you know that there's a very fine line between the artistic side and the business side of the music industry. Sometimes, that line is crossed.

I honestly think this is a shot by victory records. They stated they didn't want to make video's any more so Victory responded with something stupid like that to make them look like idiots.

- Keep in mind this my opinion.....

the truth is, someone just made the video w/o the band asking for it. the band thought it was absolutely hilarious and sent it out to be funny.

its sparklemotion, baby!

if people actually fuckign read news posts, or read the mtv news article, instead of relying on other peoples opinions they couldve figured out themselves that taking back sunday nor victory made this video.

it was made by fans of tbs... and i think tbs sent it out as a shot to victory to say hey here is our next video.

Donnie Darko Reference! HAHAHHAAHA

I watched the video and thought it was pretty good for being done by a couple of kids, I liked how they put the CD on the record player and it played - especially because the packaging treats the CD like a record. That was creative thinking in my opinion.

Haha of course. In fact, the video is actually supposed to be a sparklemotion reference. But I don't think that part worked :) I dunno, I still think its creepy, but then again I have no sense or humour or creativity :)

I'm really just asking this because I'm curious, not trying to flame but:

Why does everyone take things so seriously? Music is for enjoyment, for fun - if the guys think its funny, and you don't, so be it. But it just seems like fans have become much more uptight than they used to be, all the arguing and disagreements. If you ask me, we have too much connection and information on these bands anymore and can't take anything lightly.

Just 2.5 cents..

I saw this video this morning and it was beyond ridiculous. Taking Back Sunday continues to disappoint time and time again. The video for Great Romances was fine, Cute w/o the E was awesome, but it just seems like the artistry behind the original tbs left with John Nolan. I hate to have that view that John and Shawn were the foundation of the band, but stupid videos and songs like this prove it. The new album was disappointing, the first, second, and third video are completely disappoint, not to mention that horrific video they made for the beautiful You're so last summer. Great live band, but if you can't make music and can't put in time to actually entertain us anymore then just stop.

See the reason why this site has to be taken as pure entertainment and not fact is that not only does it say on teh tbs site that there is no agenda but it's two clicks to see the thing listed on oven fresh... the "staff' here don't seem to know any more than the people posting nor do they bother to try and get it right.. I bet anyone that nothing is right that's posted here... either way videos are made to promote bands and this one is definitely doing that, love it or hate it....

I just read that...yes, it's all well and good if it's funny...but after having to sit through 4 awful videos of Adam looking like an ass and the concept just being either nonexistant or just plain stupid, i'm ready for tbs to impress like they used to.

The whole point behind the video for You're So Last Summer was to give fans a look at the two new members, because it was shortly after they joined. So it wasn't meant to be a good video in the least, it was just meant to be a performance video so the fans could see the two new guys.

i hope this doesnt look bad on Tom Delonge as a music video director..now the band hates music videos where they get all made up and perform. for a first video tom did alright... he did a hell of a lot better than this piece of trash

The Tom Delonge video was the worst crap I have ever seen!

it seems like everybody argues with frank just because he is a staff member and they wanna like look better by calling him out on stuff..i bet if frank wasnt staff kids wouldnt say half of the shit that they say.

oh ya and the new tbs cd did suck :D

No, he's just an idiot half the time who can't handle criticism or being flat out called out.

I absolutely agree. I'm not saying I'm not disappointed. Ed was bummed that I didn't like the video. I was like, well, it is interesting. I just don't get all riled up about it and put it on a growing list of reasons to hate the band. That is one of my favorite songs, for sure, and who knows what will happen next. I know Victory label reps have been talking the single up at radio already, so they seem to be planning to release it. Who knows. 180 by Summer is my favorite song on the whole album, so maybe they'll just leave that one alone.

The new album, however, is going to be insanely different and everyone is going to hate it ;)

Forgive me if what I'm going to say has already been said, I don't have the time to read through all the pages of responses...

I think people need to just cut TBS a little bit of slack. Set your expectations lower next time.

I agree with all your points. I enjoyed WWTB or at least the first half of it...not as much as the first one but still worth the money I paid for it. Same goes for FOB.

The video would have been better if they would have spliced in some performance shots of the band wearing the same outfits as the kids.

I always knew that Adam was a 10 year old Hungarian girl inside.

I'm with you on both counts. I don't understand the state of music these days. I like what I like and it makes no sense. I like songs that suck, and I'll admit that. I even like bands that suck. But I definitely know that some people are colon inspecting some bands and like whatever they do. Some bands could piss in a bucket, record it, and those would call it the best things since the Beatles. Who knows.

Frank--I for one have always respected your opinions. You have posted updates on TBS and I haven't found you to be "hateful" towards them (unlike Mr. Tate, its personal with him) . I don't agree with you on WYWTB--it has its good points--keep being fair and keep those updates coming--all is good on this side of the screen--peace

Sweet christ.

it's controversial because choicecore touched all the kids in that video--and that folks is just reward!!
