Ok then. I have been listening to the new Scary Kids Scaring Kids self-titled album pretty much non stop for the last couple of weeks and I have to say I feel like this band has found a new and much improved identity. Incredible arrangements that are coupled with very personal lyrics make for a very exciting record for sure. Check it out if you have not already.

Now for a couple of Florida bands.

There for Tomorrow. These guys have been around for a while and have a very catchy blend of pop/alt rock. Their debut for Hopeless records is pretty sick as is the Pages EP. The lyrics are kind of aloof at times and pretty much deal with growing up as they are a pretty young band. Check em out!

Versa Emerge. This band has gone through so many name changes, line up changes, and style changes in the last two years that you would never know that they once shared members with My Fair Verona. Either way, they have landed with what seems to be a cross of Paramore and The Receiving End of Sirens. Lyrically, these guys are all over the place as they use a lot of metaphor and odd phrasing to convey a vague message. Musically though, they utilize programming and odd time signatures to compliment very unique and almost ambient arrangements.

Through the Wishing Well. These guys are probably the newest of these Florida bands, but are already making a decent sized splash. They have a very hook oriented, hard rock sound. I guess you would say Rock/Alt to be safe. The music blends guitar heavy arrangements with a rock solid rhythm section that is a throw back to old school metal at times. The lyrics are very personal and are mostly related to relationship woes and the pains of being an up and coming band (what band's aren't?) They utilize guitar solos and harmony as well which is nice to hear since I don't hear much of it these days.

Speaking of VersaEmerge, whatever the hell happened to their old vocalist Spencer? His voice made my balls so wet.

Well, from what I was told by the band members, past and present, Spencer was only 17 at the time the EP came out and they did the tour. Apparently, he was still in High School and when the offer from Rise Records came through his parents told him no basically. So he had to leave the band.

I agree though, his voice was amazing and I really enjoyed the creative direction they were going in with him. Unfortunately though, he couldn't really replicate his performances live very well. I caught them 4 times on the tour with him and it was dissapointing. Sierra is much better live and the band as a whole is much tighter.
