Are you not including EP's because if you are then Iron & Wine's "Woman King" EP would definitely get my vote. Even if it is just an EP, it still beats out almost any full-length. Also, shouldn't you differentiate between the two Bright Eyes albums? Nice idea on the poll, by the way.

EDIT: Anyone a fan of "Transistor Radio" by M. Ward? Me likey. It'd probably get my vote after Iron & Wine.

You left out Sage Francis, Smoke or Fire, Lagwagon Live in a Dive The Black Maria, Open Hand and Policia!...Best album of the year would definitely be Armor for Sleep, but Sage Francis is a close second (nothing short of brilliant) and the Black Maria, Lagwagon and Smoke or Fire albums are all really good.

Armor For Sleep's new cd has nothing on half the cds up there (Copeland, Bright Eyes, Gratitude, Reggie, Eisley and Mae are all way better albums and far less mediocre).Armor For Sleep is another mediocre emo-rock band that while their new cd is way better than their last it doesn't change the fact that they are a thoroughly boring live band and offer nothing new to the genre.

I gave the honors to Bright Eyes because I'm Wide Awake is some of his best acoustic guitar/folk based work ever and Digital Ash is a cool cd and while not too much of a departure from old Bright Eyes, switches things up a little bit. Two good releases in one quarter give BE an edge.

1. Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake It's Morning
2. Gratitude - S/T
3. The Decemberists - Picaresque

My favorite albums of the year so far have mostly come out in the second quarter though.

its amusing how the concept of "1st quarter of the year" has boggled the minds of so many people.....

but anyways, i voted for over it. for me it was very close between silverstrand and almost here

tie between decemberiusts and bright eyes. decemberists don't have an agenda, so i voted for them.

I voted for The Decemberists but ummm...Motion City Soundtrack? If they would have been on there they definitely would have been my pick...even though their cd doesn't technically come out until June 6th. I suppose that would be "Q2" so just forget about that little rant.

The Decemberists are absolutely amazing. Their older stuff is amazing, but their new album is one of the greatest things I have ever heard. No joke.

im surprised not to see Emanuel on there...not a huge screemo fan, but Soundtrack to a Headrush is pretty good

The Academy Is... for sure. It is so catchy and the lyrics really are amazing. I think Copeland would get second place for me. The Armor for Sleep cd is really good guys, but its lasting value isn't that long.

Q2 winner I can tell already will likely be Acceptance.

I def agree with Academy Is... for #1 of the quarter. a close second and thirs would be Gratitude and HIPV respectively.

I don't know about Acceptance for Q2, at this point I would def go with The Higher for Q2.

Bright Eyes/Armor For Sleep/ The Academy is.../Copeland.

Haha. I couldn't decide.. Tough call.

my top three of Q1:
1.) The Academy Is...
2.) Mae
3.) Anberlin

Bright Eyes - I'm Wide Awake...
Spoon - Gimme Fiction
Thunderbirds Are Now! - Justamustache
Hot Hot Heat - Elevator

Half of those albums have NO business being up on a poll like this. Especially when there were so many good ones that were left off.

A lot of those albums are really effing good.
I was stuck deciding between TAI/Bright Eyes/AFS/HIPV/Over It/Gratitude
All of them spent a lot of time in my CD player.
I ended up going with TAI though.
Over It would be my next choice.
Armor For Sleep taking third.
Bright Eyes gets my Honorable Mention for 2 albums, with one of them being stellar (Wide Awake).

Q2 is going to be an equally tough call, with Acceptance and Starting Line to choose from.

Is it just me, or is this an awesome year for albums?
We've gotten a LOT of high quality releases.

i voted Mars Volta on this. it was pretty much a tie for me between Mars Volta and Gratitude. coming in 3rd would probably be Over It. they're a GREAT pop-punk band. Q1 was decent for releases. lots of variety(gratitude/bright eyes/academy is/mars volta/mae).

as for Q2, acceptance has a huge advantage since, in my eyes, no band can top what they did. finch will be a huge flop, and fall out boy/ the starting line are pretty solid albums.

I agree, Picaresque is my favorite cd out of the first quarter of the year, by far, and will probably end up being my favorite of the year. That's saying a lot considering the amount of cds I've bought this year.

Easy vote for Bright Eyes. I'm Wide Awake It's Morning would already by my top pick for Q1, and the fact that he also released Digital Ash, another great album, makes Bright Eyes stand head and shoulders above the rest of the pack.
