Have any of you sharpened the edges of your shells?
Does it make a significant difference in your tone?
I've heard that it makes a huge difference and I've heard you can't even tell.
If any of you have done this, I'd appreciate some feedback on it.
Thanks.

Yeah I had not either til recently and I asked around [people, drumshops etc.] and like I said I got mixed answers. So hopefully someone on here has done it if not, I guess I'll just go for it cause I'm so curious. Haha guh.
I've been drumming for a while now and this is the first I've heard of it.

the bearing edges on your drums have a huge impact on the tone, and overall quality of your drums. I wouldn't mess with it unless you know for a fact that you can get them perfect. If they aren't exactly even all the way around, your heads won't sit right, won't tune right, etc.
There are a lot of companies out there that will re-cut your bearing edges to different specs for a reasonable price. Also, sanding/polishing your edges with some fine grit sandpaper may help a little bit if you have really cheap drums, or just poorly cut/sanded edges.

I definitely don't plan on doing it myself, I'm a terrible carpenter. Haha. Its not a shitty kit, its just a little old so the edges are a bit rounded off. So with that being said, I think I'm gonna go through with doing it.
Thanks for the feedback PH.
Keep it comin guys.

Not a drum expert, but I don't like the idea.
Although I don't mind the sanding/polishing theory. I might try that some time.

The best sounding drums from my experience are always double 45 degree bearing edges
