Q-Tip/The Cool Kids/The Knux
Thursday December 4, 2008
House Of Blues Cleveland
Cleveland, OH
The Knux has been getting a lot of hype and I didn't get the chance to listen to their album before I went to the show last night and what I saw last night does not make me want to run out and buy the album. It felt like they just played off of every hip-hop cliche since the mid-'90s by just playing samples of "classic" songs. They closed with the single (which I do like) but the sound-mix was down right terrible and I could hardly hear them.
The Cool Kids were the reason I was at the show and this was the fourth time I have seen them live. Once again, they didn't fail to bring the fun. Inglish and Mikey know how to have a good time and the crowd feeds off of them. They sounded good and the sound-mix actually worked out pretty well. They played two new songs off of When Fish Ride Bikes (Inlgish claimed it will be out in a few months) and they sounded quite awesome and different from the stuff they have done in the past (very I Got Colors-like) and the rest of the setlist was pretty standard. As the standard they mixed up the beats on some of the songs with old school beats and Mikey spit Mikey Rocks over Chuck beat-boxing. Good stuff. A great time to be had by all and the crowd was really in to it.

Q-Tip was obviously the headliner. I do not know much Q-Tip and/or A Tribe Called Quest material but the crowd was super in to it and Q-Tip knows how to work them. I personally thought the way he moved around was stage was kind of funny and weird but it got the job done. He and the band sounded quite damn good and I can't really fault them but I couldn't really get in to it because I didn't know most of the stuff and was tired by time he came on. But still, a good set.
Overall, the show was a good time and I'd recommend it to any hip-hop/rap fan on here if it is coming to your area.
