Alkaline Trio, Fall Out Boy, HHH and Bloc Party....what does everything thing about the amount of "rock" music that MTV has been digging in on recently? I personally think that rap is looking down the barrel of it's downfall.

rap won't go away, it's just finally recovered from losing Biggie and Tupac in the late 90's. I will state my theory right now that if Biggie and Tupac didn't die, the door would not have been as wide open for boy bands and rap-rock from 1998-2002(ish). But anyways....it took from then until now for there to be a bunch of elite rappers and ESPECIALLY now that Jay-Z has "retired from the game", he was arguably the #1 rapper for the last few years, so now you have a bunch of guys vying to take the #1 spot (ex. 50 Cent, The Game, Ludacris) and with this competition they're only going to put that much more time into making their releases better.

Luda doesn't do ganster rap. 50 cent and the game plain suck. Neither of them are remotely impressing or original. In the general though, rap is becoming less and less popular. People are listening to all these poppy teenager kids like Jesse McCartney and Lindsay Lohan, ect. They are also listening to the few bands that make it onto MTV, like Green Day, MCR, The Used, and yes, GC and SP. I think by 2007, rap will be what rock was 5 years ago to the main stream.

One of the reasons rock is coming back is because it isn't entirely shit anymore. All that rap-metal-rock bullshit that only Rage Against the Machine was good at sucked and same with all the nu-metal bands like Staind. Now with so many bands returning to a late 70-early 80s sound, modern radio/tv rock sounds so much better.

it doesn't matter if he does gangsta rap or just raps, was Jay-Z a gangsta rapper? no he was not. 50 Cent and The Game are easily 2 of the best out there, it's not about how original WHAT they say is, it's about how original their flow, the beats, the WAY they say things is. that is what makes it impressive. Believe it or not kids these days actually have a broader music taste than we did when we were in Junior High because we had to choose from 3 things if we watched MTV: Boy Bands (Backstreet Boys, 98 Degrees, NSYNC), Hot, Under-18 Singers (Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Mandy Moore...were all under 18 back then) or Rap-Rock (Kid Rock, Limp Bizkit, Korn). Now they're getting Jesse McCartney, followed by a video by Green Day, followed by 50 Cent, followed by The Used.....etc.

Does 50 Cent still rap because I haven't heard anyone in my school talk about him for ages. Last year they were all like "G-Unit!" but I haven't heard it once this year, not that I'm complaining.

Yes he does, he came out with a new CD recently, which, in my opinion, was rather sub-par.

Yeah except Candy Shop is the most annoying rap song ever created. and "hate it or love it" isn't really his song, it's the Game's, but he's on it.

They play lots of stuff on MTV2. MTV has done things with HHH, Bloc Party, and very soon they will be working with Alkaline Trio and Fall Out Boy.
