this show happened dec 4th in baton rouge, la.
the first band was carolina liar. i heard their single on the radio a large amounts of times. they played 4 songs i didnt know and then ended with "im not over". they were really fun and enjoyable, but the only down side was the fact they started at 530 with atleast more than half of the arena empty. i felt bad that the lead singer spent most of his time trying to get the crowd pumped for them and the headliner (death cab for cutie). overall this band easily gets a 6.5/10. they were fun to watch and songs were catchy but i would not say they were all that good... but they entertained, so they did their job.
the next band was cold war kids. to be all honest, this band was horrible... hey sounded awful live and the lead singer was so boring when he was on stage. the worst live performance i have ever seen. i cant really describe this bands set except boring, monotonous, and buzzkill. the last song of their set was "hospital beds" and i have never clapped so hard in excitement bc the torture was over. 2.5/10
jacks mannequin followed them. jacks started off with a bang. im pretty sure it was spinning, but im not too sure. they played mostly new stuff like swimming, swim, and the resolution and i think spinning.. they also played dark blue and another from their first. overall it was the best performance of the night. andrew killed and the band were also good. such a great performance. i got chills from the first note when they first took stage... it was the song spinning i think and they started off with a deep bass drum then they started jamming out. they deserve a 9/10
snow patrol followed them. its weird, i always loved final straw, but never got the time to try out eyes open. when snow patrol came on, i experienced only what i can describe as a religious experience. it was epic, beautiful, the most amazing experience i ever had. they played longer than the other 3 bands. they started off with the first single off the new album (i think), played another song off that album. after te second song, lightbody told a joke about his experience with cajun culture (fucking hillarious). after, they played run. this was followed by crack the shutters. chasing cars followed, then some other song off eyes open. at the end of that song he commented on this kids dance move during the song and told him to come up on stage and do it for the whole arena to see. he kept the kid on stage to dance for the whole song. he did a michael jackson/elvis hip thrust thing that was so funny, lightbody stoped singing in mid verse, laughed a good 15 seconds then dropped his guitar and hugged the kid in the middle of the song. they played one more song, made a request for death cab to play transatlanticism (to quote lightbody "you know that song 'i need you so much closer, yeah you know what one im talking about") then ended with open your eyes. this song was such a masterpiece it litterally made my knees tremble and buckle. it was so amazing, i cant even describe the state of being it put me in. they were so fantastic, not the most energetic, but definately the best experience. if this makes sense, jacks was the best performance but snow patrol was the best experience.
death cab then came on. they started with bixby canyon bridge, and blended it with another track tha was not off of narrow stairs. they introduced themselves then played a wide range of songs from "the new year", "company calls epilogue" to the "narrow stairs" singles. they played crooked teeth and closed the set with sould meets body. they played about 12 songs but played it all atleast 15 mins shorter than snow patrol. they were good, but definately a disappointment. but in all fairness, it was hard following jacks and snow patrol. i enjoyed their set list and gave them an 8/10. they did not play gary lightbody's request :(
overall an amazing show and it was truely a great life experience
