Was not good at all. Overly melodramatic and poorly acted.

I like David Thewlis... but it doesn't look that good to me. I'll probably end up downloading it or something.

I've had someone tell me it's "they should be ashamed of themselves" bad.

well the 67 reviews I just read said otherwise....
and I just saw the movie and I happen to agree with the 67 critics who liked the movie. To me, it was truly a movie that I'll never forget, as it has got to be the most depressing movie I've ever seen in my entire life. When the movie ended, the entire theater was completely silent...and everyone left in silence.
The movie was VERY simplistic...but that was the point of the film, to show how a naive 8year old boy struggles to understand the perils of the war as he remains stuck in a TYPICAL 8 YEAR OLDS MIND. He meets a kind imprisoned little jewish boy who he sees as nice, genuine, but back at home he's told that the boy is the enemy. I was completely into the movie the whole way, as it was shot beautifully....the set and scenes were fantastic....and an ending that is unforgettable. In the review and rate 3.0 thread, I talk about why its not the PERFECT movie, because it was a bit TOO simplistic, and TOO quick, and the development was sped up.
note the movie was only 100minutes...which is short for a movie of this sort.

There is a difference between true emotion and melodrama. This film was steeped in the latter.

Looks like a cheap shot to me. Production looks bad too just from the trailer. I'll probably watch it just once out of curiosity.

My friend said that the ending made them want to throw up, but wouldn't say any more.
Is that a valid claim?

umm the production was probably the best part of the film......
and cheap shot? I mean I guess you could say any movie about atrocities is a cheap shot....if that's what you're going for here, but if a movie really makes you that emotional and sad at the end, its typically because you've grown attached to the characters.

To me, the trailer made it look like a made for tv movie. And by cheap shot, I mean the entire thing with the kid by the fence. It just seemed exaggerated/over the top. I'll still watch it though. These are just my thoughts based on the trailer.
