Travis Barker of Blink 182 (www.Bline182.com) is in the new, June 2005 issue of Drum! Here's a quote from the magazine...
"For ten years, basically, we'd put out a record, tour for two-and-a-half years, write a record, tour, going nonstop. Everyone in the band has kids. We would come home and my son wouldn't know who I was. Everyone has taken the opportunity to spend time with our kids, but now it's getting busy for me.It was fun while it lasted. Anyway, Blink will probably, most likely, make a record in January of next year."

I'm a huge Blink fan...dont get me wrong...but the way I read this it seemed like he has mixed emotions...it didnt seem like it was all "Yeah, were getting back together", but maybe its just the way I interpreted it and also, the title of this thread fits so perfectly because now that he said this there is gonna be this pressure to put out a record by/start recording in January and if they don't its gonna turn into one of these Brand New things where people go "They said it was coming out in January" maybe not as big, I dunno, but even though its a comforting, it also makes me wonder

First off, awesome news. But isn't it funny how Trav always sorta contradicts himself. "It was fun while it lasted. Anyway, Blink will probably, most likely, make a record in January of next year". After quotes of shit like "Nah, no more records", etc. Oh well, as long as they make another record!

Well they did ask, "Who's going to be the odd man out?"
haha, clever, "i dont want to be the odd man out" mark was singing that song too, and he's still around travis unlike tom...conisidence, i think not...if they do make another record i hope it keeps going in a new direction, but they develop the songs a little more, the songs were pretty short in length on untitled. there was a lot of layered parts which is cool, like 8 layers of drums on 'easy target' i dunno if its 8, but its certainly not just 1 cause they talked about it in that launch show on mtv.
as far as greatest hits go, i thought they were putting out a dvd this year...another live cd wouldnt be too shabby either, i'll buy a few, the last one sometimes goes for a pretty penny on ebay...hell i have a promo mobile thing and it goes for a lot sometimes.

yeah if i were in a band with the best drummer ever, i would laugh about his public comments too, not...blink wouldnt be anywhere as good if trav didnt come in, the drums on buddha chesitire and dude ranch have all the same drum beat, same tempo, same sounds, all 4/4 time...drummers create the time signitures and tempo changes, scott (was that his name?) was fast, i will give him that he was fast and consistent, but he never broadened his styles and abilities. as for travis has rap, jazz, punk, rock, etc, etc. in his backround...i would let a proven drummer say whatever he wants, he must have some cred beings he's in the fucking band. regardless if it was the whole time or not.
im kind of drunk , but this is the bes t news ive heard in a long time!! fuck yeah1!!

I may be totally wrong, but to me it kinda sounds like he may have meant the break and staying home to spend time with his family was good while it lasted. And if the hiatus does end as soon as they are making it sound, they won't begin working on a new album until January, not have one out by January.

does anyone else continue to wonder how Blink manages to stay sucessful? i know they're not as popular as they were back in 2000 or whenever... but these guys still have a huge supporting fan base. and they're still relevant in the whole pop culture universe.
think about other bands that were popular for a few years ago... Limp Bizkit! Papa Roach! those bands don't even sell records anymore.
where do you think Blink ranks as far as their longevity? will they remembered years from now... will they be in the same category as the Red Hot Chili Peppers, Green Day as for having long sucessful careers... or will they just seem like one of those bands no one gives a shit about anymore (Bush, Everclear, Offspring, etc...)?

I think its because like Blink is one of those bands that got so many people into the general genre that is punk rock and introduced so many to the various subcategories of said genre...but I think the fact that they continue to put out records and are a good band to just listen to definetely works in their favor...if they never came back it would definetely be like a Green Day fame just without the continuing concerts and albums...but if they come back the possibilities are endless
And I dont think that Blink would continue without Travis...its become their sound to have those kick ass drums in the background...when Scott was in the band they still weren't very very popular and then they exploded when they replaced him with Travis...Blink - Travis = OVER

Good sure. The best...far from it. The best drummers are the ones whose beats are integrated smoothly and don't stand out but at the same time can be crazy. Case in point, Coheed's drummer Josh Eppard has a nice subtle style but plays unique and innovative drum parts with amazing fills. Travis has skill no doubt about it, but he lacks something in style.

You make a good point but I dont think that Travis lacks style at all...I think he has a style all of his own...if youve ever been to a blink show or seen them live somehow you can definetely tell he has a style unique from all the other drummers and I think thats why people consider him the best

i am a guitarist though, and i'll say this: Tom Delonge doesn't get enough credit. i know he's not schooled... and his stuff is pretty easy to play. but... think about it.. is there a more inspiring guitarist of the current music generation? how many kids do you know have learned how to play "dammit" or "what's my age again"? and how many bands have ripped off those sounds? you've got to admit the guy is pretty innovative and works with what he has. its a shame Blink has had to cut back on the catchy guitar riffs because of a hundred billion other bands who try to sound just like them.

Yea, Mark and Tom are both more talented then they show off though. And the fact that travis isnt specifically just a punk drummer show's his skills. He's learnt so many types of music from Jazz to Rap so he his has a wide variety behind the set.

agreed i play both guitar and drums so i'm kinda knowledgable of both, blinks older stuff is pretty hard to play, tom is very underrated and can be very fast, 'wasting time' 'm and m's' are both pretty tough songs untill you get the timing down...at least blink maintains the 3 piece live unlike green day who has billy joe playing guitar, wait no they have that other guy so billy can stand there focus on singing shitty.

if it needs to be proven that tom is fast, check them out live, or i guess their live album...the tempo of pretty much every song is picked up quite a bit and none of them even flinch.
riley from thrice is also one of the best (and underrated) modern drummers.

Awesome. Blink really needs to do a follow up to their self titled. Their self titled was amazing but I'm wondering what the next album will be like. Will it be dark? Will it be the catchy Blink we've come to love over the years with silly and absurd songs? Will it be a mix between the two? Although, I'd understand if they left their newest CD as their last since it was damn good. Always go out while you're on top, right?
