thats exactly how i felt bro, a lot of it is generic and crappy, and it can be difficult to distinguish between rappers. but then again, that can be said of 'rock' too.

You should have had old school/ 90s rap as a choice. That is the golden age of rap.The majority of the rap I like comes from that era such as 2pac, Dr. Dre., NWA, Ice Cube, and The Notorious B.I.G. I really hate current rap/ hip hop dogshit except for Clipse and Ludacris.

I would recommend starting with Me Against the world (my fav) or All Eyez On Me. I heard the hype about him for years being the greatest rapper and finally decided to check him out last year and discovered people were right about him.

That last bit was funny. I am online a lot because I take online classes so I get bored and post polls.

I'm never willing to entirely stereotype anything. People always tell me that there's good, creative rap and hip hop out there and I'm willing to believe that somewhere there is. They've shown me songs that were good examples but I've never been able to find any artists that are completely immune to occasionally putting out the same generic, mindless bitches and hoes, gangsta bull crap. And for the most part that's all there is. So i defintely hate it.

depends on what it is, and if its actually creative, then i'll probably enjoy it, i just dont care for gangsta stuff, its been done a gajillion times, tho i'll listen to some eazy-e or somthing for fun ocasionally, oh and white boys, not so much the actual few famous white rappers(tho i'm not a fan) but just the thousands of dumb white guys who think they can rap, its embarassing to the race, and by that i mean the human race.

The most embarrassing white "rappers" are Hollywood Dead. They are worse than Limp Bizkit which is really saying something. Eazy-E is pretty good but I prefer him in NWA rather than his solo stuff

I said it's ok because a majority of rap is awful, but when it's good then I really like it. Like 2pac, Pharell, Nas, Kanye West, and just a little of Lil Wayne. But those are like 4 people I like out of he thousands of terrible rap artists. I blame rap for ruining the music industry.

Why? is really interesting, its hard to classify as 'rap' but its really good. Astronautalis is like Rap with a folky tinge to it. I really like Atmosphere's new album When Life Give You Lemons, You Paint That Shit Gold so I'd say that one. If you really want to checkout Common, check out Be, it's easily his best album.

My thing is I feel rap just pushes singles and doesn't focus on putting an album out so when the only song you've heard by (insert terrible rapper here) is that one song why would you go out and buy the whole cd for that one song when you could just download it? At least with Nickelback their fans (may god save their souls) go out and buy the albums where rap music just puts out one shitty single after another: soulja boy, mims, akon t-pain flo rida etc. at least nickelback is a band that keeps albums coing out instead of just songs

I kind of expected the album to sound like this. He did describe it as his Summer album (the original release date was set to June 24th) but I still expected something with a little more substance. I've only listened to it once so far, so maybe it'll grow. I can let this go though, because Kanye is producing his new album, and he's done great work on his older stuff. The Neptunes are good producers and I love the beats, but it's too different for me.

The problem with people disliking rap is that they tend to generalize it, as if whatever 50 cent or eminem puts out is the end all be all of the genre. That's like saying you won't listen to rock music because you don't like U2 (and by rock, I mean any band that features drums, guitars, bass, or some variety on that). Of course that's a stupid thing to say; there's so many more options than U2 to choose from. The same thing goes for rap. I personally think Eminem is pure unadulterated garbage, but I still love rap as a genre. There's much more than that available if you're willing to look.

Dizzee rascal is ever so slightly listenable, the streets is jsut talking, really really bad in my opinion.
To be honest I wasn't talking about the mainstream, more the MCs who are about, they all get thier asses licked by chavs and gangsta wannabes when you look at the lyrics they're always about 1 of 3:
1) How good they are at rapping(soo stupid to rap about how good you are at rapping)
2) How much they hate some guy("You look like a cat on stilts" is an actual line from one of these guys. 'Disses', they're called, song which are jsut massive fuck-offs to someone)
or
3)Gangs and violence, which is without doubt a huge contributor to the amount of stabbings in the UK at the moment. I don't care what anyone says, hip-hop DEFINITLY glamourises and encourages gang culture, which leads to crime and death. How anyone can think those lyrics are good I have no idea.
