the simpsons > family guy
Sometimes. The Simpsons can be great, but they've been pretty weak lately. FG has been fairly consistently funny.

the simpsons > family guy
No way. The Simpsons are not solid, and Family Guy is way funnier.

i agree for the most part, but FG hasn't been around as long so it's still picking up speed. i thought the last few episodes of the simpsons have done this season justice. that one when they went to the future was classic. "stupid flounders..."
agreed. Finally someone who knows his shit. If you look at the shows overall...simpsons > family guy. Right now...Family guy>simpsons but the simpsons does still have it's highlights.

Kelsey Grammer went to my school. I wish he'd show up and do comedy or something one day. That'd be awesome.

can't beat star wars, but on the whole simpsons vs family guy, when family guy has been around for 16 seasons see how fresh it is. Its hard to consistently come up with new adventures for their family while keeping it still funny

family guy will never do it as good as the simpsons. they're good, but not simpsons good.
i respectfully disagree.

Simpsons is a classic, but its lacks the edge that family guy has provided. I honestly believe Family Guy is much funnier than the simpsons, for the sole reason that I can watch a Family Guy 10 times and laugh every time, non-stop, while if I were to do the same for the Simpsons, I might laugh 4 times the first view viewings, to none by the 10th.

what's better is the guy who does it better for longer. Also, the Simpson's has made more people laugh without resorting to crude humor so that's another thing.

the simpsons is cool and everything, but it has never made me laugh so hard that i was nearly crying....

Hey guys, its gonna be alright.
Fox's schedule doesn't revolve around Family Guy, and it won't until more than 10 million people start to watch it. The show's great, and I was disappointed it's not on, but this doesn't mean that Fox is giving up on the series. In fact, it has nothing to do with Family Guy, it just had two committments to make.

i've loved family guy since it debut, but the fact is, it wouldn't be on if it wasn't for the simpsons which ends the argument right there for me. it's the same in sports and music, someone might come along and so something better or get more publicity, but they'll never replace the one who did it first and set the stage.

What the fuck are some of you kids smoking, Law and Order and Seinfeld are both way better. Best program in 20 years? Yeah maybe of original fox programming, but thats not saying much.
Don't get me wrong I love Family Guy, but lets not go crazy.

the simpsons has had just as much of a cultural impact as either of those shows, i wouldn't argue family guy with the 20 years thing, but if we're talking impact, i'd say the simpsons is up there.

don't get me wrong i like family guy and all that, but i like comedy that is pretty clever also, imo right now the best show on fox is Arrested Development, if people will give it a chance i think it has the opportunity to be a long running show

I didn't say anything about the Simpsons, and I agree with you, its huge. I was saying Family Guy isn't as powerful a television force as soem of these kids were saying.

i will forever not hate fox because they brought me 24. however, they are pretty shitty many times.
I like both Family Guy and the Simpsons, but FG will never be the Simpsons. It just can't. Yeah, right now its better than the recent episodes of the Simpsons but as someone stated before "without the Simpsons shows like Family Guy would have never existed". Cartoons just weren't supposed to be that edgy or geared towards anything but kids on Saturday mornings until '89 when The Simpsons began its epic run that will last at least 3 more seasons to 19 seasons...and probably beyond. To be fair a great deal of you probably weren't even old enough to tie your shoes or stay still long enough to watch a half hour worth of television when The Simpsons first became a cultural phenomenon so you may not remember how huge this show was. The hype and impact of Family Guy now is probably the highest it has ever been but comes nowhere near what the Simpsons was.
The Simpsons left their mark on society in so many ways. In my day I have never seen a show cause such a stir in the media. The Simpsons were everywhere...any kind product that you could slap an image on there was a good chance they were on it....cards, candy, cereal, shirts, wallpaper, bedsheets, dolls, action figures, bikes, plates, board games, shoes, window decals, underwear, trash cans and on and on and on. Despite the fact that Family Guy is not a ratings giant show it is still one of the top shows in terms of industry buzz, but still nowhere near what the Simpsons were. Without the Simpsons the FOX network would NOT still be here at all. It was a fledgling network 2 years into its existance when The Simpsons came on...they were the first show on FOX to crack the top 20 in ratings. In fact the network was not even making a profit until the Simpsons came along.
If you are around my age you probably remember how big of a deal this show was. It was impossible to not hear about the Simpsons...even if all you watched was the nightly news. I remember being CRUSHED when I couldn't wear my Bart shirt to school because many schools nationwide Banned Simpsons merchandise of any sort because they felt that Bart Simpson was a negative role model for kids. Barbara Bush even made public statements about how she disliked the show and called it "the dumbest thing she had ever seen"....she even wrote letters to the show with her concerns.
Like I said, I like Family Guy, but its just a mere spec of dust compared to the Simpsons in the timeline of television history. Not only has it been on the cover of TIME magazine but he also made the list of "The 100 Most Influential People of the Century" issue in 1998. He was the only fictional character to make the list. The Simpsons also have a star on the Hollywood walk of fame. http://www.time.com/time/time100/artists/profile/simpson.html
