And in all fairness, everyone waited a while before the political shitstorm started kicking. Sure, punk is going to be against government in one way or another constantly, but seriously, the guy hasn't even done anything yet. Give me a break.

some "punk" is, but mostly that sort of straightforward, simplified thinking is reserved for boys and girls who want to by the "A" logo shirts at hot topic.
I think punk has basically turned into a place where off-the-charts left, human and otherwise rights centered beliefs have found a home.

There's not gonna be any list of bands that anyone will know. It's obviously some southern republican who's sitting in his room pissed off at the world because god forbid we have a black president-elect. I guarantee there will not be one band on this compilation that anyone knows about, and there won't be one song on there that is even worth a listen.

From wiki:
In the summer of 2004 Guttermouth embarked on the Vans Warped Tour (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Warped_Tour), playing on the Volcom (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volcom) side stage. In keeping with their reputation for outrageous and offensive behavior, Adkins would often openly insult other acts from onstage, declaring that bands such as Yellowcard (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yellowcard) and My Chemical Romance (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/My_Chemical_Romance) cared more about their fashionable clothing and popularity than about the quality of their music. The band members also mocked what they saw as an overall anti-conservative agenda on the tour by selling t-shirts and displaying banners that proclaimed support for President George W. Bush (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/George_W._Bush) (many of the bands and media booths supported an anti-Republican (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Republican_Party_%28United_States%2 9) stance in the months leading up to the 2004 presidential election (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/United_States_presidential_election ,_2004)). Several popular acts such as Anti-Flag (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Anti-Flag) and NOFX (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NOFX) openly voiced their political views onstage, and Guttermouth were quick to denounce the "popularity" of liberal politics on the tour, claiming that many fans lacked any actual knowledge of politics but were latching onto political causes simply because their favorite bands supported them. After several weeks on the tour Guttermouth abruptly left, fueling rumors that other performers had petitioned to have them ejected.[4] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guttermouth#cite_note-white-3) Eventually, however, Adkins issued a statement apologizing to Warped Tour manager Kevin Lyman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kevin_Lyman) and admitting that the band had left the tour voluntarily, due in part to his distaste for the political atmosphere surrounding it.[3] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guttermouth#cite_note-ankeny-2)

The problem is that regardless of how ridiculous you think his policies are, he is still the president of the country you live in and are a citizen of and should be respected as such. It's analogous to wearing a shirt that says "not my parents" if you think your chores are ridiculous and you don't get enough allowance. You can disagree, but wearing a shirt like that is crossing the line.
And what exactly do you mean by "questionable election"? What's so questionable? The American people spoke and he was elected. Simple as that.

yeah killing thousands of our soldiers for a pointless war while pissing all over the constitution and continuing the same right wing policies that fucked up the economy is definitely analogous to whining about chores. Some people don't deserve respect. If my parents abused me, I don't think they would deserve respect just because of their position in my life. likewise, bush abused his office to do some really fucked up things, so he doesn't deserve respect.
anyone who would take a break being the most powerful person in the country when katrina hit and people were being flooded out of their homes and having to fend for themselves en masse on the streets is not worth respecting.

So my off-the-cuff analogy was bad. I apologize. Back to my original point though, there really is no reason for any American to wear a shirt like that. It's just not correct. You are a United States citizen and that man is your president... why wear a shirt that says he isn't?

that shirt isn't literally saying I have a different president than Bush. It's claiming that his ideology is not representative of my belief system, so an american who thinks he doesn't represent their views would be more than appropriate.
