today was my first of 40 hours. hopefully 80 though if they'll let me exchange the fee for more.

i ended up seeing the worst/best tattoo ever though. this kid, no older than me, had a teardrop tattoo right underneath his eye. the driver called him teardrop the rest of the day. i can't even imagine how humiliating that must be. share?

due to the slow two hour response on here i'm going to safely assume we are the equivalent to lethal criminals in the PL community.

I once did community service for Confirmation. I had to chaperone these kids on a trip to a skating rink. I just played House of the Dead all day. I ended up beating it, so all in all, a successful day.

For the A+ college program at my high school, I had to do 40 hours of "community service", which, for me, was tutoring 3rd graders.

i'm pretty jealous. i had to wake up at 7 and walk halfway around my city picking up trash for 7 hours. absolutely freezing. can't complain too much though, i listened to bon iver the whole time and i felt good about what i was doing.

I went to an island off the coast of Brazil that was a fishers community and delivered canned goods to each family that I had previously collected in a canned goods drive.

I took a service learning class when I was in high school, which meant I got to make bulletin boards and "mentor" in the cafeteria during the 8th grade lunch hour, where I would sit with my brother and his friends. Did I mention that I got to drive off campus during the middle of the day and skip out early?

i love it! recently i got my job to give up a day and we worked at a local food bank that helps sick people receive nutritious meals. i think my favorite thing was when i went to play bingo at the nursing home and got paired with this awesome lady. she was so happy just to win a hand and have someone to talk to that she gave me her prize. she was the nicest lady ever and it was so sad bc her kids never came to see her.

I do community service for a food donation program at my Grandma's church. This time of year, people sponsor less fortunate families and buy all of their holiday needs for them.
The family I adopted for Thanksgiving was a woman with Alzheimer's. There's a young girl who's training to be a nurse who was initially caring for the woman, but when the government decided to stop funding her, decided to move in with her and take care of her for free. She has three children and a husband, so there are 6 people in the household. I bought them a ton of Thanksgiving food, and they were so grateful. The program is worthwhile.
The day before, we line up the bags and hand them out to each family as they come to the church.
I don't know what family I have for Christmas, but one moment I'll never forget is when a host family bought a little girl a bike. The look of sheer happiness on her face is one to never be forgotten!

I don't owe any debt to society either, I just do it because it's fun and it makes people happy.

does anyone know about the obama community service plan to help college kids? my friend told me that we can do hours of service and get something like a scholarship for our time.
