I recently received this email message, thought I'd pass it along:

Hey Jason, just a little info on the Yesterday's Rising (http://www.yesterdaysrising.com) CD. I saw the cover art was posted. Well, I'm not sure if you're aware but the singer Brandon is big on art - and, does alot of his own work. He had planned to do so for their first full-length CD. Thanks to Fearless Records he had much less say in what went on it because they thought it was "too graphic" and wouldn't allow it. If you want to check out some of Brandon's work you can do so at his myspace (http://www.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewProfi le&friendID=884036&Mytoken=20050523211954).

Doesn't seem like something Fearless would do.

Just to set the record straight - We would never release album artwork unless the band was totally behind it. Brandon is a very talented artist and worked right beside our graphic designer to create and layout artwork for Lightworker.

Me too .. I always getta find out things I didn't know! Fearless is a great label, I'm sure there is much less drama than the original post implied, and hell - the artwork (and album for that matter) are very good.

Yeah, Adam seems calm about it. These things can get blown out of proportion.

Was this update taken from the band's website or myspace account? :animateds

i can see why fearless would say that because some of his art is a little to graphic for cover art. like, it reminds me of marilyn manson type shit. but a lot of it is really cool, like the one with the cyclone and the tree. that kinda stuff would be awesome for it.

It's funny cause all his art, and even the art on the actual cover just has that look of a million other things some studio in seattle has done, there i said it. im just tired of stars that look like that, and layers like that and everything.

Doesn't seem like something Fearless would do.

So I guess the whole At The Drive-In compilation was their decision and not something Fearless would do to make more money.. Hmm...

that artwork is so freaking cool... maybe a bit much for a cd cover... but maybe included in the art booklet.. i'd love to see more of it.

if you're referring to asterik, i'm laughing at you. i don't see even a slight resmblance in the design style whatsoever. sure, brandon's style is popular in photoshop, but many artists share similar styles. i personally like his artwork and can appreciate that he spent time and thought whether you think so or not.

As part of the management team for Yesterdays Rising I can say that, as Adam from Fearless Records stated, Brandon worked side by side with the art designer on the art for Lightworker. Management and everyone in the band are very pleased with the art. It follows a theme that will be clear after all the songs are heard. Although the person that sent the letter to Jason may feel they are in some ways supporting the band, it turns out they are not.

Yesterdays Rising and Fearless Records are very excited about this release and in the next few weeks will will have a lot of surprises in store for everyone...

You must be kidding me. You must not be familiar with their work. While yes his is darker than these commercial pieces i list below, it is obvious the resemblance. And I was not just talking about his art, I also mentioned the cover, as well as now I will mention far too many other designers just trying to emulate anything as has done.

and i love how now the label and the band have both tried to stomp out this controversy, just fyi label and band, no one really took this seriously, i mean it's an anonymous email.

I really hope that the rest of their album is better than the 2 song sampler going around, because...well, compared to their EP, those songs are horrendous.

he's got some great artwork. Truly one of the best bands around today...
