As most of you know by now, Paul Hinojos (guitarist) has left Sparta (www.spartamusic.com) to pursue other musical interests. With this being said, The Mars Volta (www.marsvolta.com) have added a new guitarist to the band... work it out:

In a move certain to inspire speculation and rumors, Sparta guitarist and former at the drive in member, Paul Hinojos, has quit Sparta and has joined the Mars Volta, effective immediately. Assuming the sound manipulation duties of the late Jeremy Ward, Hinojos' role within the band will initially be confined to the off stage audio acrobatics that Ward (who died in 2003) had become reknowned for. Volta band leader Omar Rodriguez - Lopez is adamant that Hinojos will eventually share the stage with his bandmates during live performances. "My time with Sparta has run its course, and simply wasn't fun anymore," commented Hinojos in los angeles last week. Hinojos, who in 2003 joined the mars volta briefly after Wards untimely death, decided to accept the open invitation from Rodriguez Lopez to rejoin the band at his leisure. "We've been friends since we were kids, played in bands together for years, and Paul was close to Jeremy," commented omar, "its always been clear to me that! Paul was the only person wod be appropriate to take Jeremy's place and fill what we feel is an integral role within the band" Hinojos rejoined Omar and co. midway through their current us tour, although out of courtesy it was decided to leave it to the Sparta camp to make the initial announcement of pauls departure.

anyone have a clue to who it is?
and on a side note, paul was touring with TMV when i saw them in 03 as well, so its not that surprising to me.

The new Sparta stuff is bound to be more focussed on electronic parts, so I don't know if losing a guitarist is that much of a big deal, but seeing how he is doing exactly that (electronic stuff) at TMV, it might very well be.
I still say bring ATDI back :>

Sparta is more consistent, but I enjoy De-loused the most out of all releases from the 2 bands.

Sparta is not lame whatsoever. Just different. In fact, I enjoy Sparta more, TMV is a wonderful band, crazy times, experimental and all, that's what they like to do....Sparta doesn't do this, well minus Paul, the other guys don't. But I'm sorry you guys think Sparta "sucks"...if that's the case then you might want to stop listening to or praising the other 80% of the bands you listen to. Both bands are great ... Night.

Yeh, Frances The Mute was good, but It didn't stick out to me as much as De loused did.

I like De-loused better than Frances the Mute as well...but I love Sparta so much. I know they are not as ground breaking as TMV but man it s sooo good.

so now the mars volta has eight members...that's cool.
but i don't see why he needs to play 2nd guitar parts. very few songs (and only small parts of those songs) require two guitars. like "the widow", "take the veil", and "l'via"...

actually, the volta guys were completely against the release of the anathology. in reality, it was just a way for fearless to make some money fast, so they can continue to put out mediocre (at best) bands. same thing happened with afi and their nitro anathology.
