I know we've got a ton of people on this site who either write reviews or regularly read them (or both). My question is this:
What type of reviews do you like to read? Do you like lengthy ones that talk about every track on the album with at least 2-3 sentences, in addition to intro/summary paragraphs, or do you like shorter reviews that really talk about the album as a whole, only delving into specifics on 2-3 songs, thus making a shorter review?

Depends on the quality of the reviewer. If they're a good writer, long and in-depth is excellent. Otherwise, keep it short.

Yeah I like the in-depth ones better. Much more detailed of course and because of that the review could change my opinion. A short review with nothing like that doesn't do it for me.

Ones that dont review the CD song by song, which the AP staff has a habit of doing.

I do mine song-by-song, and I ask the question because it's kind of boring if I'm not either really into the album or really tearing it apart.

You have to delve into the feelings you get from the CD. You have to talk about more than what each song sounds like. We dont get a feeling about what the CD is about.

I like a healthy balance. I don't mind specifics, but a track by track thing isn't always necessary. Its all about capturing what makes the album good or bad. If that can be done well in a couple of sentences...cool by me. If it requires more that is equally cool.

I usually like the longer ones, but I'm gonna have to do a shorter one than usual for The Black Maria, I'm just having a hard time coming up with stuff to say about it.

If you've read Scott Juba's stuff, it's pretty short. So I don't think anyone over at The Trades will have any problem with it.

I liked to write lengthy in-depth ones when I wrote reviews for KnifeParty but I guess they wanted me to write shorter ones....but even my shorter ones were 4-5 paragraphs.

In-depth but short.
