the musicianship on this cd is almost second to none. the acoustic solo at the end of sidewinder is phenomenal. i give it a 7.5 with definite room to grow.

EDIT: I love emo, indie, punk, ect. But a lot of it is just re-hashed, and there is more out there than that.

About an 8/10. I find that it is a great album for what it is. I personally think that 'WakingThe Fallen' is better but find it difficult to compare it to 'City Of Evil' in that they seem to be two different styles. As mentioned above, the musicianship is amazing and will keep this album in my cd player for awhile to come. Another thing that I like about this album is that everything seems to blend together nicely. The songs flow into each other and in this case it is a nice change from other metal albums that either sound the same throughout or go out of their way to be different.

id say 7 or 8. i like this about as much as their other two records. this one is totally different, but if youre a fan of 80's metal then youll like it. i think its really cool and im glad theyre not sticking to the same old shit. the vocals can be a bit annoying at times. and some of the songs are a little too soft. but over all i like it a lot.

yeah for sure, music is a 10 no doubt about it. reminds me of iron maiden, guns n roses, and death in one big mix. Then out of no where santana style, yet it all works together. I know that he is capable of singing better. I believe he's not 100% right now, and it sounds that way. A standout quality to me has always been his singing voice, both in the studio and live. At times he does shine, but as i said i know he is capable of better. I still give it props though.

I'm loving the music, but A7X just isn't A7X without the screaming vocals. 10/10 on instrumentals, 3/10 on the vocals averages out to 6.5/10 for the album.

i can't stand the vocals.. shadows whines like a little bitch 10 times worse than chris carabba, i've been listening to this album for 3 or 4 days now, and i can safely say the musicianship alone will get it a 5, but M. Shadows has lost his appeal as a vocalist to me, his screaming is what set him, and the band apart.

9/10, the vocals are terrible but the music is amazing, i like it better then waking the fallen just because they seemed to have stepped up the solos to make up for the crappy vocals. they should make an instrumental side project ala liquid tension experiment.

how can you say they can do it 100x better than a7x when they never have played that type of music...you cant. they each play completely different brands of metal...a7x wouldnt try and pull off dep because they cant and dep wouldnt try and pull off a7x because thats not their strong points. your argument is flawed because your only proof that dep could play this type of music is that "theyre a better band" DEP is one of my favorites bands and are the best at what they do...a7x is one of the best at what they do also...both bands are amazingly talented the end.

A lot of people are arguing about Avenged being compared to Gnr. And I agree there are some similarities. But I think GNR is one of the most over rated bands of all time. Axl Rose is a fucking idiot. Slash is awesome.
What is also funny is people say M.Shadows' voice is whinney. Uh, hello? Axl Rose has the most whinney voice ever.
Anyway, i dunno where i'm going with this...but one thing i'm wondering is if by Warped Tour time Shadows will be able to scream well enough to play their waking the fallen hits? Anyone else worried about this?
