Life's Great Tragedy - The Spectre EP
Record Label: 1658 Entertainment
Release Date: 2008
Who?
Life's Great Tragedy is a rock/pop-rock band from California. The group began in February 2007 as an acoustic side project of singer Patrick Merrill. However, Merrill attracted his friend Kevin VandenBroeke to the band to play bass. Not long after that drummer Brandon Popineau and guitarist Ryan Whalen also joined the band. To date, Life's Great Tragedy have released two EPs, the first one being a self-titled EP and the follow-up being The Spectre EP
How is it?
For a band that formed less that two years ago and only has two EPs under its belt, it is quite good. Patrick Merrill's lyrics are very soothing with a sad yet enjoyable sound to them. The instrumentals are pretty basic but go very well with the vocals. My biggest complaint towards the album is that the vocals can get repetitive. The band's influences are very evident throughout the EP. These influences are mainly New Found Glory and blink-182's slower songs. However, this album is a good listen and these guys have some serious potential.
New Found Glory; Tokyo Rose; blink-182's "I Miss You"
