I wasn't into Volcano at first as a fan. I appreciated the talent, but I wasn't into the sound. I love the album now.
And you're gonna tell me a song like "Shhhhh! I'm Listening to Reason" is terrible? I just don't see how..

you guys are stupid. ok, not really, because music is subjective, but yeah.
here's the quick explanation of why they rule.
Gatsby's is in my mind, one of the most original bands around. Hell, their first 2 albums didn't even have any songs with Choruses in them (1 exception). Instead, they were masterpieces that went the path of technicality and strange variances in tempo and time signatures. Most bands are predictable, you know when a chorus is coming, you know when the bridge is - not with Gatsby's. Ribbons and Sugar is a totally unpredictable album that balances catchy songs full of hooks without becoming predictable. Each song is totally different, changing time signatures as many as 6 or 7 times. The music is also something you can dance to...the beats are so off the wall that it gets better with every listen. That was Gatsby's pre-volcano. Now, the new album, is definitely more listener-friendly, but they haven't changed. There are 3 or 4 songs with choruses, and they are amazing blasts of energy that still have that slightly quirky Gatsby's feel to them. The other tracks, particularly "Pompeii" and "Shhh...I'm Listening to Reason" are incredibly dynamic songs that showcase the band's unmatched talent and knack for taking tons of different song structures and tempos and transistioning them into one, amazing, cohesive song that totally flows. "Shhh..." is insane - it goes from this weird, swaying rock beat, to a straight up dance rock beat, to a breakdown (with chord patterns and lyrics from earlier albums - fucking cool) to acoustic, to hand claps, to speed drums, to a drunken irish chant. Now what other band can do that?? SO AWESOME. Plus, it's catchy as hell, and it'll make you want to dance.
Lyrically...I don't know how you can think Gatsby's sucks, unless you're uneducated and don't like deep lyrics. Ribbons and Sugar was based off the book animal farm, and it takes stabs at capitalism and other facets of corporate life. Lost Monsters EP is a gigantic "fuck you" to all the labels who were begging to sign Gatsby's after Ribbons and Sugar came out and garnered such acclaim..but they all wanted Gatsby's to write a radio single, one with a chorus and friendly lyrics. GAD turned them all down, self-released the EP, and even stuck a few songs with choruses on it - just for the hell of it. Pretentious? A bit. Awesome? yes. "The signal is corrupted, the songs are uninspired, where's the fucking chorus? Here it is...but you can't fuck with my integrity..." (lyrics from lost monsters EP) Volcano is even better lyrically, EACH SONG has a lyric, chord, or melody that ties into another song on the record. The sky being painted is mentioned in Theatre and Pompeii, musical excerpts from other albums are revisited, and it all ties together under the theme of the Volcano. The Volcano is basically the human heart, full of emotion, lust, guilt, shame, and those themes are brought up time and time again during the album. The conclusion is the explosion of the Volcano, as the emotions overboil and our human rage is let out. It's a concept album. It's awesome. Also, the song "Fable" is based around the book "Lord of the Flies," although there is a double meaning to the song that is far deeper than that.
Gatsby's is not the type of band one might love at first. That's understandable. But they are incredibly talented and in my opinion, the most original band in their genre right now. Show me another band that plays pop-rock more technical or original than Gatsby's and you win a prize. Nobody does it better. Gatsby's is the best band making music right now.

should I copy and paste my response from that thread into this one? I don't see how you can have enough of an open mind to listen to The Mars Volta but not appreciate what Gatsby's does as far as originality. Go listen to Shhh...I'm Listening to Reason, or Epilogue, or Pompeii, etc and give it another chance, you might warm up to it.

Did you even read my explanation as to why I believe Gatsby's is amazing? It's pretty detailed... and I have nothing left to say. If you can't respond to the points I've made, then you really have no basis for an argument as to why you don't like Gatsby's.

OH MY FUCKING GOD!! You are all are still going on about this. Whats sadder a 21 year as myself not spelling words right, or a 21 year old who wont end a thread about a flavor of the month band as GAD. That horrifically detailed post is no way made me repent my feelings towards the band. Sure one can have thier (haha used the right way) own opinion of a band. But certain bands I believe are only listened by those who want to be viewed as cool. This include said band. The only attention whore on the thread in my opinion would be Scott Weber. Quit defending your lame ass band, your shooting a dead horse here my friend.

i thought this band was ok when i first got into them...i had ribbons and sugar and in the land of lost monsters (i think thats the name i cant remember right now and am far to lazy to look)..but one day it all just clicked for me. volcano is by far my favorite album to come out this year. the way it builds up into the final song is absolutely amazing. the way they bring back lines and themes from the other albums and earlier songs is incredible. the way these songs can be as catchy as any pop-punk band out there without any set-chorus is something NO other pop-punk/indie-rock/whatever you want to call GAD could pull off. how is this band flavor of the month? a flavor of the month band would be a band like fall out boy, although i love them, thats a fact though. they are writing songs to be on the radio. i find it very hard to believe that if someone heard gatsby on the radio they would enjoy it. it is an aquired taste, if you dont like it at first i highly suggest re-listening a couple of times, thats what it took for me and it was worth it. this band is spectacular and im excited to hear what they do further down the road.

ya, i dont get it. it just seems so rehashed also. it sounds just like a mix of emery, thrice, and some other bands i cant think of right now, only the mix does not work at all.

screamo is dead, bands need to get over it and stop doing the same fucking thing over and over and over.

this isnt real screamo you fucking *****. god. hahaha ya but i agree...it got too commercialized, as lame as i sound saying that its so true. the whole screaming deal got played out to death by the used etc. and left a stale taste in my mouth. ifi treos would have come out a year or 2 ago i would have liked it a lot more i think. minus the boring noises.

believe it or not, random noises between songs doesn't make you original, nor scene, nor cool.

I agree with both of you on TREOS. I still really enjoy that song "Broadcast Quality" though. But people should stop sucking their nuts.

its not that they arent talented or cant write good songs...to me its just been done one too many times before i think. just comparing them to GAD is insane...GAD outshines them in every way.

.......TREOS? no. They are so mediocre it's ridiculous. How can just another screamo band with some extra effects thrown in be a pioneer?
no i don't mean to say they're pioneers; i havent heard anyone say that. but people tell me GAD is so revolutionary.
and since when was TREOS screamo? they hardly ever scream on that album
i'm liking volcano more upon second listen, I guess I didn't give it that good of a listen first time around...

and judge me all you like, but remember youre almost 22 years old and youre mocking a 17 year old for not liking what you like.
maybe you should decide to mature and understand that your opinion is as valid as everyone else's and not everyone one is going to agree with you.

I'm not mocking you for what you like, not at all. I could care less if you like Gatsby's American Dream or not. I asked you to explain why, and you couldn't, so it leaves wondering as to why. I choose to mock you because you're an attention whore who posts the most ridiculous things...non-stop. I could seriously care less about what you think.
edit: I just re-read this thread to realize that I haven't even had direct conversation with you in this thread, how could I be mocking you for not liking GAD when you only posted once? I posted that big long response to everybody who didn't "get" the GAD hype...that's it. Buy into it, or don't, but now you're just pulling stuff out of thin air.

this is what i saw as mocking: "you are easily the most annoying and stupidest person on this entire website." - Scott Weber

i have stopped the spamming and i have tried to add a little substance to my posts so currently i hope i havent been posting rediculous things.
as much as i respect you weber, you cant change my mind about gatsby's as i know you dont want to. plus this is the trash talk thread, and i was expressing my negative opinion on how i feel on them which is what i was supposed to be doing.
and i dont remember you asking me to express my opinion as to why i dislike them, so here it is: i just dont like them. i dont have an exact reason, i just didnt like what i heard which you cant like everything, there is going to be a time when you dont enjoy what youre listening to. sorry if i babble, i havent slept.

Oh. My. Fucking. God.
Dude.
I don't care about changing your mind. I don't know how many times I have to say that. I'm going to defend a band that I love. That is a given. I'm going to justify why I like a band. Those quotes you just said have nothing to do with the fact that you don't like Gatsby's. Nothing. I haven't been paying attention enough to see if you stopped spamming - all I know is that you have in the past, and that is why I posted those 2 statements.
I don't know how I can say this more clearly. I don't give a shit about what you think about Gatsby's. I don't care if you don't like them, you can like what you want. I never attacked you for disagreeing with me, I said those things because you acted like an idiot. I hope to God we are clear now, because I'm sick of spelling things out for you. These type of posts are the reason I call you annoying and stupid - because you can't even comprehend that this entire thread is actually NOT about you! Imagine that.

and i would have never expected you to be a good christian with the kind of language that you used, especially today on the sabbath. :headshake

Haha. Don't judge me.
Why don't you do some research, and find out how obscenities (fuck) and vulgarity (shit) are wrong. They are crass, they are frowned upon, but they are not sins. Taking the Lord's name in vain is...and yes i did that. I'm not a very good Christian, but I do what I can.
Also, the sabbath is on Saturday, not Sunday. :headshake

btw, it was racking my brain and i know you would know...what label are they on?? are they on the same with rocket summer?

Its not pop punk, but they employ melodies akin to certain emo/pop punk bands. I honestly think that the music is cool though. I can't really get into his voice though.

they give off the feeling of pop punk upon a casual listen i think. if you really sit down and listen to the song structure, lyrics, flow of the cd etc. you realize its far from a pop-punk release.

i absolutely can't stand them. i can't get into them. i got a sampler and theirs really nothing appealing. i think alot of people just got into them cuz of the hype. they deserve no props from me. does any of you like them? WHY? do you think they have talent. is the album all that great. please tell me.
yeah they do suck dude, but atreyu sucks too along with a long list of other bands you like.
so why preach to the chior of people who like bad music when you are a sinner yourself.
