note: this is from my flight from Portland to Salt Lake City, UT and then to Florida. i tried to give some structure to it by the parts i wrote it in but i wrote in paragraph format. you can see that here (http://nadiapeer.tumblr.com/post/64614334).
the mountains are powdered with snow,
colored pastels on rocky surfaces.
the great salt lake shimmering like glass,
pockets of light slipping through the clouds
beaming sunlight in lengthy rays over and at the water.
the holes in the clouds showing sun
for the brief seconds that we pass them.
this is it until we land.
now the mountains are illuminated by a fiery sun
slipping behind the gray clouds,
leaving colored shadows on their undersides.
then there is only a view of the mountains silhouettes.
soon enough the sun is setting
and the vast layer of clouds has orange-red shadows
illuminated under them.
they are bright but start to disappear
as we ascend through them.
now all we have is a darkening blue sky.
there is a layer of red slipping away out in front.
the moon is pasted on the darkened sky.
it’s like the moon is over a deep sea,
that sea being the grouping of clouds
with their small clusters and open spaces
moving like waves which will never hit a shore.
some mountains are just below us
darkening as we rise higher into the evening sky.
i don’t think we’ll surpass our view of the moon.
the sky is now deep blues blended and painted
behind a white cut out moon
you can still see the clouds until they fade in the distance
a deep fog below us.
now all we have it a white moon on a blackening blue sky.
